Ghost Ship (DVD)

When i first got this film off my girlfriends shelf and looked at the back, i immediately thought, this is going to be a good one. After watching it, i'd make a slight alteration to my prediction, and instead say, it could have been a good one. Do not get me wrong, this is a good film, its a safe watch for some horror thrills, but thats all it is, its nothing spectacular, which i had hoped it would be when i had read the back of it. I have to be honest, the only reason I watched this film was because of the cast (Gabriel Byrne and Karl Urban mostly), but I loved it so much I went straight out to buy a copy. The opening scene is stunning, if a little horrific (but then isn't that why you buy these films) and I had never seen anything like it in other films. The rest of the film is just as good, with plenty of tension and good scares, but it doesn't limit itself to that. There ...
...from Karl Urban who does a fantastic job as 'Munder' the salvage teams marine engineer (underwater welder). Desmond Harrington also plays the bad guy extremely well, and although I did see the plot twist coming, many of the people I saw it with were totally shocked. Overall I think this film has everything you could want from a horror movie. It's stuffed full of strange occurrences and plot twists, not to mention some humour to balance things out. ...

Built in 1954, the majestic ocean liner Antonia Graza was the pride of the Italian Line as it was the most modern and grand compared to other ferries. The fim, ghost ship, is all about a group of people that go on a mission to find a ship, only to be rewarded with a nightmare out at sea. While this type of film has never really been done before, it it is still the average horror film. Sure it packs in several scares that leave you on the edge of your seat but this is nothing more than you would get from any other horror film out there. If you like ghost stories you'll like this one. The opening scenes are amazing. Special effects are really good and the plot spooky. It's a little reminiscent of The Haunting in it's plot. Interesting, gorey and reasonably well choreographed start suggested it could be a quality film. This film was on the whole, dull, with some parts that may make you jump when you are just falling asleep. The plot involves a salvage crew setting out to the Bering Sea to salvage a ship which had been abandoned for 40 years in mysterious circumstances. After colliding with the ship they board it and it becomes more apparent why the ship was abandoned. ...
..."strange" encounter. After finding a large amount of gold bars they have to decide whether to take the gold or the ship for salvage. From then on things become more and more sinister. In summary this is how it goes: Salvage crew arrive, disaster happens and they are stranded. Then, not much happens, then not much more happens, then the crew all get killed, bar one, and nothing more happens. Then, a twist, and nothing much happens and finally nothing ...

This film is not the best film ever made by far but it really is a good watch from beginning to end. From beginning to end it contains gripping footage and sequences. The storyline is unusual, but has some aspects of predictability such as guessing who the baddie is. The storyline is pretty easy to grasp and i would certainly say it gets my thumbs up!I wont tell you the ending because i would not want to spoil it but when you think its all over...you ...
...factor to it. If you enjoyed films such as dog soldiers, house on haunted hill etc then this film is a must. In my opinion of someone who watches A LOT of films in this genre it has what i like to call the 'bored, watch again' factor. If you like gore (some great scenes of that) then gooo watch it! ...

I did think this film was very good but i had to keep reminding myself of the title because it wasnt about ghosts, but then i realised, the ship had been missing for so many years and it suddenly reappears to them in the middle of the sea, they are the only witnesses, therefore it is a "ghost ship", very good yes! i particularly enjoyed the way everyone had a set way to die, no-one died the same and they were always alone! you think someone is setting ...
...everyone, but they are not, its the ship, oooooh scary! Trick is dont ever be alone even on your own decaying rotten boat in the middle of the sea! why a put good acting as both - a film like that should have a cheesy actor/actress just for novelty value... ...
