This is one of the rare movies that has a wonderful, upbeat, talented ensemble cast in which every character is equally enjoyable to watch, and no one uncomfortably upstages ... ...to the movie.
Basically, Galaxy Quest is a very well made comedy spoof that doesn't try to be pretentious. And because it doesn't have -- and doesn't try to have -- any of that Hollywood Blockbuster feel, it comes off as an enjoyable, quality flick that Sci Fi fans and just casual moviegoers can watch alike.

Advantages: Funny; great story and acting; family film Disadvantages: none
This is one of my all time favourite comedy films, not mentioning the fact that it also has a couple of my favourite actors, Tim Allen and Alan Rickman. It is a Science Fiction/ comedy family film released in 1999 and I think it's meant to be a bit of a spoof on 'Star Trek'.
The plot is like a 'film within a film'. I'll keep this review as short, simple and detailed as possible for you. The gist is:
*There are 7 actors that presented a series of ... ...adventures battling aliens and stuff, a bit like star trek. The mission in the episodes is to retrieve a special device called the 'Omega 13'. Because the series was never properly completed, no one knows what it does, but it's a powerful device.
*The series only lasted a couple of seasons; the actors retired for 17 years and returned for a couple of special shows. *Some real aliens (called 'Thermians' - a peaceful race) see the show on their tv ...

...am going to rave about. Galaxy Quest is one of the funniest films ever made and I love it to bits.
If you are a fan of Science fiction in general, and Star Trek in particular, then you will love this movie. Even if you are not but just enjoy a good comedy then this is well worth a look as it works on many levels and will appeal to a wide audience. Barring the odd swear word it is a real family film.
Galaxy Quest, as its title suggests, is a rip-off ... ...the long-cancelled cult SF-TV show, Galaxy Quest. The enraptured audience is watching the last episode of the show on a giant screen. It ends on a major cliff-hanger, with the crew in a seemingly helpless position. Then, the Commander utters the ominous phrase, "Activate the Omega-13".
The appreciative crowd erupts, eager to meet their heroes who are about to be introduced on stage. But there is a delay, and we switch back-stage, where we see the ...

...play it down, however, cos Galaxy Quest is just a brilliant, brilliant movie and one of the most enjoyable films of the last five years or so, quite simply wonderful.
It's got really good press wherever I've read about it and lives up to all the hype for once.
The film centres around a sub Star Trek type cult TV show which has inspired the same sort of Trekkie anoraks you get in real life, but in this case you go behind the scenes and see the petty ... ...bitch and moan about everything, but especially Tim Allen as the space ship's commander, Taggart, whom the fans love nearly as much as he does himself.
The original series ran for four years before being pulled and just like William Shatner, the cast are still making a living out of leaping into their space duds 25 years later, well beam me up Scotty.
The film opens at a fans' convention with a photo signing session, but then some real life aliens ...

...idea with hilarious results is Galaxy Quest.
Galaxy Quest was produced by Mark Johnson on behalf of DreamWorks Pictures. Directed by Dean Parisot who was also responsible for the quirky television comedy show Northern Exposure. Well they are finally all introduced by Guy (Sam Rockwell). ...

...than at him. Galaxy Quest is, then, our perfect date movie. There's no gore, no human nakedness and very little profanity (in fact, in the video version, there is some obvious dubbing to make it even cleaner) so parents can feel okay about youngsters and teens watching it.
