Advantages: Excellent extras complement the excellent film Disadvantages: Why has it not been remastered in surround sound?
...Sept 23rd 1963. Of course From Russia With Love is the second of the long line of Bond movies and grossed a massive $78.9 million (around $410 million today). Following on from Dr No, From Russia With Love brought a number of new things to the Bond films, as well as setting the standard for Goldfinger (review coming later).
THE STORY:
After Dr No, the evil crime cartel SPECTRE seeks revenge for the death of its operative Dr No. Bond is set up by ... ...high points.
Overall the From Russia With Love has everything expected in a Bond film: exciting action, cool gadgets, amazing locations, beautiful woman and a spectacular sound track.
Since this opinion is more about the offerings of the DVD rather than the movie itself I won’t go into anymore detail here.

...have the second Bond film from 1963, 'From Russia With Love'. It may be the second film, but it's the first to feature those wonderful silhouetted females cavorting over the theme tune, leaving us all gasping for the outline of nipples and gasping at the amazing gymnastics! (Well, that's what it used to do for me anyway!)
It's also the third film to be released in the wonderful remastered DVD series, packed full of ultra-special extras. Just what ... ...again for the film footage from the actual making, see Connery hanging around looking very un-Bond like. However, that's it for the extras (apart from a useless Stills Gallery - buy a book if you want to look at photos), and while it's great to find DVDs with this many extras, it's relatively sparse compared to some of the other discs (Thunderball for instance).
The picture quality is up to the standard of the other discs I'm pleased to say, with ...

~ ~ Following on from the outstanding success of the first James Bond movie, Dr. No, in 1963, the studios and money men were very quick to get a second helping onto our cinema screens the following year. (May, 1964)
Directed by Terence Young, this movie again cast everyone’s favourite Edinburgh milkman, Sean Connery, (just imagine this guy delivering your gold tops in the morning girls) as the intrepid and dashing 007. He is once more pitted ... ...we have come to expect from more recent Bond movies, with James simply getting an exploding briefcase with a tear gas canister hidden inside, a high powered assassins rifle with an infra-red scope, and a hidden knife and roll of gold coins. No fancy cars for our lad on this occasion, but he does get himself a trip on the fabled Orient Express train, where he despatches a bad lad, SPECTRE's chief hunk Red Grant, (Robert Shaw) through the carriage ...

The film marks the debut of the white pussycat and its master, SPECTRE commander Blofeld. But not for them their usual aim of global domination; this time it's personal: to avenge the death of Dr No by killing Bond nastily; to distribute image-damaging porno pics of him in bed with a Russian Mata Hari - and all after duping him into giving them a decoding machine. The bait is Romanova , a simple KGB clerk who's as innocent as she's lovely. Best remembered ...

...edition of the Bond series. From Russia with love was one of the classics too. The film boasts a number of outstading elements. One of these is the pre-credits seqeunce were Grants attcks a fake Bond. Another being the introduction of Q and the Bond gadgets.
Bonds assignment in this film is to un-cover a decoding machine called 'Lektor'. This is currently held by the Russians. Bond is helped by Soviet agent- Romanova. SPECTRE, a secret national ... ...not easy. A classic moment from any Bond film.
Q made his first appearnce in a Bond film here. It was fairly short in comparison to other films. He was portrayed as maybe an un-interesting bureacrat. This aside, he came up with some pretty cool gadjet. One of the more famous inventions is the Attache case. In the train battle- it saves Bonds life. It contained many smaller gadgets- which would, as always, proove to be usefull in the long run.

...violence and gadgets. The second From Russia With Love was infinitely better and for a Bond film surprisingly gritty. From Russia With Love featured an altogether more gripping and exciting screenplay than many of the somewhat formulaic sequels. As it was made in 1963 it was still made against the background of the Cold War and indeed the Cuban Missile Crisis had been only a couple of years before. The enemy were seen as the Communists in Russia ... ...with a helicopter.
Whilst From Russia With Love was a very good film this only serves to show the paucity of later Bond films. The quality of the writing fell as the budgets for stunts as gadgets rose. The later Bond girls were plastic and merely included to appeal to the male audience. Like many of the Bond films it is ultimately a fantasy and a bit of nonsense and should not be taken too seriously. The films are made with the producers tongue ...

Terence Young's FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE was released in 1963, one year after its predecessor, the first James Bond offering DR. NO, took the world by storm. The latter was a very exciting introduction to the world of secret espionage as vividly created in the Ian Fleming novel it was based on; but how well does the follow up Ian Fleming adaptation, with greater production values, John Barry's now famous musical score and the movie franchise's first ... ...can access Russian state secrets, from a defecting Russian agent, who, working in Istanbul, is risking her life bringing the decoder, and herself, to the attention of England. The Russian Lector machine has been a thorn in the side of both the US and the British intelligence agencies for years. Advantages: Sean Connery, Outstanding perfomances, Good story. Disadvantages: One bad perfomance.
From Russia with Love is one of the greatest movie of Sean Connery aka James Bond. Brilliant perfomance by Sean Connery. This movie is great because every character in this movie is strong that means perfomance by every individual is superb with an exception of Rosa Klebb(movie cast) coz her performance wasn't that good compared to others.
James bond travels through Russia and resolves his case with his cool attitude, perfect style and attire. And ...

The action sequences and the plot also reside on the more acceptable side of reality, while still be interesting and exciting. Advantages: Hilarious explosions, Great gadgets Disadvantages: Boring scenes, Not a cut above Dr No
The sequel to Dr No is very good, but sadly not as good as Dr No. There are some really boring scenes with MI6 and it can get tedious the way nothing seems to happen. Q's gadgets still amaze me and I do like the train parts. There is an excellent part where Bond sucessfully blows the entire hotel up, which is very ammusing. Dont get me wrong this IS a good film, but is however a little hard to like as much as the fabulous Dr No. Ah well, never mind, ...
