Plenty of Blood, Not Enough Meat

Advantages: I’ll get back to you on that
Disadvantages: Absolutely no story

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) To refresh your memories here’s a little recap of the previous films events. If you’ve yet to watch it skip this paragraph to avoid spoilers. At Camp Crystal Lake, in 1957, a young boy drowned because the camp counsellors were busy making love instead of watching him. In 1958 two counsellors (I expect the same two) were brutally murdered leading to the camp being shut down. 21 years later another spate of killings befell ...
...survivor Alice discovered the murderer to be the young boy Jason’s mother, Mrs Voorhees, who after a drawn out struggle was decapitated. The film starts with one of the longest introductions I’ve witnessed. On some versions up to fifteen minutes long. It essentially just plays the end of the original. Then it moves on five years, and a new camp is to be opened on Crystal Lake, just a short walk from ‘Camp Blood’ of the original. A noticeably larger ...

Advantages: It's got Jason in it
Disadvantages: It's like Part 1

...to the original. Friday 13th Part 2, made one year after the original movie, takes place five years after the events at Camp Crystal Lake, or Camp Blood. For those with short attention spans we are 'treated' to a catch up of the finale of the first film. This is where it gets bad. You see the dream sequence is overlong and unnecessary for the most part and rally should have been cut down or, indeed, cut altogether. Before the film starts properly ...
...guesses who) in a typical Friday 13th Gore-O-Rama way. Friday 13th 2 has an all new set of budding camp counselors embarking on a sort of training scheme and they are somehow situated right near Camp Crystal Lake, coincidence of the decade. Two of them get the warning from the crazed man saying they are all doomed (again), like many scenes in Friday the 13th its pretty pointless, if only to raise a few sniggers. With a film like this there is very ...

...an incredible amount of sequels. Friday the 13th is the main culprit. It is a movie which blatantly rips off Halloween, literally offering nothing new but killer and location and never seems to stop churning out sequels. This is part 2 of...well 8 last time I looked but there are probably more. The plot is pretty much incidental here, its a slasher movie after all and a not very intelligent one at that. Basically its set 5 years after the original ...
...have to say that the Friday 13th series is not a collection of movies that I have ever been particularly impressed with. Apart from ripping off Halloween, they have seriously not stood the test of time very well. The gore looks really dated now, much more like red paint than anything else and there really isn't that much in the way of shocks. People have sex, run through the forest and get walked after by this killer who manages to keep pace with ...

Jason Vorhees Imitates Michael Myers

Advantages: Jason's debut on slasher scene
Disadvantages: Poor quality, bad acting

Friday the 13th is set five years after the original, and yet again sees a group of clueless American teenagers visit a lonely abandoned lake with a ominous reputation. The original Friday the 13th served as a prototype for the endless sequels, as Jason went on to take over the role of psychopathic serial killer from his mother. In true slasher style the youngsters irritate so much that you look forward to them dying. Of course you don't have to ...
...is that just stupid). The Friday films all pretty much follow the horror film rules, if you have sex you die, if you take drugs you die, and if you ever utter the words 'I'll be right back' yep you guessed it you will die. There isn't much to suggest that this movie would spawn so many more except for the key ingredients of gore and sex. Having said all that I enjoyed this film, when I was younger I saw the Friday films first and as an introduction ...

Friday the 13th part 2

Advantages: well it's a jason film! great atmosphere, silly acting, silly haircuts, nasty yet sadistically enjoyable deaths and the birth of a true cult figure
Disadvantages: well if you dont know by know..where have you been ?

Er..right, well apparantly after the death of his mother Jason wasn't best pleased, and has risen from the grave (praaiiise the lord) to wreak havok and nasty ends to loads of unsuspecting teenagers. Can't go wrong can it? Well it's still not the jason we know (and love in some extreme cases), as he's wearing a sack over his head, and looks like something out of a german porn film. But hey, don't let this fool you..he's certainly as nasty as his ...
...of the best of the series..thanks to the way it just oozes that legendary er..jason style?. Well all the traits of the series are here..loads of deaths, frantic running (and often falling over), the silly yet brilliant musical score..if that's what you can call it..all in all, the typical jason film. Great if that's what you like - but otherwise it's a direct translation of numero uno, with a bloke weilding a sack over his head and a very large machete. ...

Exactly what I expected

Advantages: Hilarious, scary in places, good fr group watching, good death scenes.
Disadvantages: Absolutely ridiculous, basically a re-hash of the first film, very lazy plotting and acting.

...sole survivor from the first Friday movie is still having nightmares about her encounter with Mrs Vorhees and her deformed son Jason. Trying to get her life back on track Alice now lives alone but on making herself a cup of tea she discovers the disembodied head of Mrs Vorhees and is soon after murdered by an unknown asssailant {not that it takes a genius to work out who} with an ice pick to the head. Years later another group of counsellors are ...
...is that this is a Friday the 13th movie and I don't believe it was made to be so pulled apart. Of course this film is ridiculous. How many teenagers often go wandering into dark places, go swimming nude {only the females} at night and how on earth don't they notice a great big serial killer who is blatantly looking directly at them {they look straight at him and don't notice him for god's sake}. But the most important thing is how entertaining is ...

Mindless sex &violence - Yay!

Advantages: Scarey, with great atmosphere
Disadvantages: The plot is repetetive

..."Halloween H20" and "Lake Placid", Friday the 13th part 2 is a continuation of the mindless violence and teenage sex that was seen in the original. After a lengthy flash back to the end of the first movie, we see Alice, the sole survivor, happily going about her life, making a pot of tea when, bam! She gets it in the temple with some sort of spike thing. But Mrs Vorhees is dead! I hear you cry… No… Could it be? No… it can't be… It's Jason! - Mrs ...
...those years ago. Fast-forward 5 years later and another group of happy-go-lucky camp counsellors are preparing to open a new camp at Crystal Lake. Will they ever learn? Not even Crazy old Ralph can stop them. Basically the rest of the movie is the same as the first, but with Jason doing the killings instead of his mom. Those of you who were hoping to see the infamous hockey mask will be disappointed. He doesn't adopt that until the 3rd movie. For ...

the start of many to come

Advantages: jason
Disadvantages: his imortality

Friday the 13th 2 works on some level mostly because this is the first film that features the Jason character as the killer. He's somewhat menancing but this film suffers from being kind of boring and not nearly as good as the original. The film opens on Alice, the survivor of the original film, still haunted by the events that took place at crystal lake. in the next 5 minutes lets just say she'll won't have to think about it anymore. afew years ...
...camp and jason is not to happy with this. It moves kind of slow and known of the characters are really that great except for our herioine ginny. The make up effects are still great and the last 15 minutes do satisfy. As a film of its own it's pretty good, but as a sequel to a so called slasher classic it doesn't really compare ...
