I really enjoyed this film, which was a surprise because I didn't like the sound of it. The concept had massive potential, and the posibilities are always endless with films about time! The opening certainly impressed, a fire action sequence mixed with quick fire camera work is always a safe bet! I wish more films were made nowadays that do not fit so snugly into one particular genre. "Frequency" is one such film. Intimate and touching, but also gripping and suspenseful. The acting was superb, especially by Quaid and Caviezel as father and son. The imagery was rich and dramatic and the plot, once you got by the basic premise, quite sound. Pick this DVD up at Blockbuster because the cover read quite well, didn’t manage to catch the movie when it was on the circuit. Ok so I'm not the kind of person that appreciates most sci fi time travel whatsit movies to their full extent. Mostly because I'm one of these people who just don't get the whole messing with time concept (I got thoroughly confused the first time I saw Back to the Future, and then when it was all explained to me and I watched it again I got even more confused. Maybe it was just Michael J Fox that confused me, I dunno.) Well anyways with this film ...
...of what was going on and why it was going on. Which makes it one of the good time travel films to me. This is an intriguing film that i really didn't know much about when i first saw it. I only knew about the beginning bit and that is probably the best way to go into this, cold. Dennis Quaid is back to his best(?), proving how underrated he is. Jim Cavaziel is now a great actor, he was great in thin red line as he is in this, i would also check him out in the count of monte cristo. Although this film is primarily all about the main two characters ...
...is suitably dark in places and at times the tension is cranked up brilliantly. Towards the end we are treated to some clever moments as things happening in the past simultaneously affect things in the future. Unfortunately it is let down by an incredibly cheesy finale. It's not the actual end of the plot that's bad, (and i won't spoil it for you) it's just that as the credits roll we are treated to a really bad musical bit that is totally unnecessary. ...
