Advantages: The detective bit of the story Disadvantages: A bit far fetched
I came across Frequency, the film from 2000, quite by chance one Saturday night on Sky Premier. I had heard literally nothing about it - no hype, no reviews, no slatings, no adverts - and so wasn't sure what to expect. The first twenty minutes or so were pretty dull, and it looked like pretty much standard, all American hokum about families going bad when something wondrous happens to change their lives - Ho hum, that seen it all before world weariness ...

Advantages: Tense, exciting film, with great features Disadvantages: None
Let me start with a warning – DON’T WATCH THE TRAILER! Basically, they give everything away, leaving no room for surprises and severely reducing your viewing pleasure. While there are many predictable Hollywood films out there, where you know exactly how it’s going to end after just five minutes, Frequency, while containing a few familiar moments, ultimately kept me guessing right to the finale. Saddled with the knowledge that the ...

Advantages: good performances. thrilling at times Disadvantages: bit of a cheesy finale
And so my dvd collection gets rifled through so i can review it for you (hah that rhymes). This time i am looking at Frequency, a film directed by gregory hoblit (primal fear, harts war) and starring Jim Cavaziel(The thin red line, count of monte cristo) as John sullivan. Also starring Dennis Quaid (innerspace, traffic) as Frank sullivan.
John is a new york city homicide officer who's life is going badly, his girlfriend has left him and he is ...

Advantages: Gripping story and great acting Disadvantages: The trailer gives everything away.
Frequency is the story of a cop, John Sullivan (Jim Cavaziel) who is able to communicate thirty years in the past to his now dead firefighter father (Dennis Quaid) using his father's old HAM radio station. This feat is made possible by the presence of the Aurora Baurealis (I hope that's spelt right), Northern lights to us plebs, in both timescales. John tells his father of his death in a fire only a few days away. With his new found knowledge, Quaid ...

Advantages: Thought-provoking, emotive and gripping throughout Disadvantages: None, that I can think of
It's a thought many of us have. What would we do if we could change just one thing in our lives? Not buy that car? Not buy a pornographic magazine from the shop owned by you Mother-in-law? Not eat spaghetti on that first date? For me, it would have been back in primary school. I wouldn't have taken ALL my clothes off to change for P.E.. Seems like a tiny thing (well, it was very cold), but the knock-on effect of that one action still haunts me today. ...

Advantages: Great plot and good effects Disadvantages: Makes no sense at times
Frequency does not do much to describe the type of movie this is and may put people off seeing the movie. It is basically a thriller, full of twists, with a strong streak of science fiction running all the way through it. Recently released on Region 1 DVD from New Line Cinema it arrived on my doorstep this week. The basic plot is that Frank Sullivan (Dennis Quaid) is a fireman and a very good one, he is the best at his job and no risk is too much ...

Advantages: Feel-good drama, well-executed idea, the DVD has extras that enhance enjoyment of the film Disadvantages: The audio commentary is not mentioned on the box
...is a truly ambitious project. Frequency follows 1998's Fallen, itself an unusual addition to its genre (Supernatural Horror), by taking a promising scenario and comprehensively delivering upon its potential.
Cynics may scoff, but this is a film which fuses three potent ideas into one extremely moving and effective whole. True, it has a tendency for "God Bless America, Mom and Apple Pie" sentimentality - but Field Of Dreams showed how it needn't ...

Advantages: Brilliant drama Disadvantages: Nothing
I got recommended this film a while back and got lent the DVD version so I thought I'd watch it one night when I had nothing else to do. I got told not to expect that much, but a pretty good film. I personally thought that was pretty naff advice, I really liked this action packed flik and would recommend this film to anyone thats heard of it.
The film stars Dennis Quiad and Jim Caveizel as father and son in a predictable tale of action and wills ...

...one as short as possible. Frequency is probably one of the less publicised movies last year, but the energy behind this movie is so great that it's very unfortunate that it didn't make it big.
The concept/plot behind Frequency is apparently time travelling, changing past events and thus, the future, aren't new stuff in movie plots (witness: Back To The Future series and others) and Frequency does not make any new inroads into the genre.
Also, ...

...a man with the same frequency and call sign as his. John talked with him casually at first and later found that the man at the other end called his son "little chief", the name his father Frank called him in his childhood. An initial mixed feeling of disbelief and emotion turned to panic as John frantically tried to warn Frank that the fire next day (30 years earlier) would take his life and "if only he chose the other way", he would be saved. No, really.
You see, if you hadn't decided to read this review, you would have instead looked at an opinion about Comet. Inspired by this, you would have eagerly visited the store, your head full of all the bargains that you had read about online. Tragically, as you crossed the car park, you would have been so unaware of your surroundings that a lorry would have pulled out and....ouch.
How can I be sure of this? I can't. But neither could you ...

Advantages: A life changing movie! Disadvantages: none that I can think of.
you will want to watch it again and again and again, infact me and my husband saw it at the cinema and on DVD and we have just bought the DVD.
If you had the chance to make things different today, by changing a moment in your life, would you do it? Well that is exactly what this films character John Sullivan, played by Jim Caviezel, gets the chance to do. Should he change something that happened in 1969? When he actually speaks to his Dad on a ...

Advantages: Real thriller, very tense, great directed Disadvantages: None I've found
This is one of the best movies I've seen in the last year. A friend borrowed me a DVD with this movie, but I was never expected to have such a great movie experience. Honestly, I've never heard of this movie, but now it becomes one of my favourites. The idea of the screenplay is absolutely briliant. It's like a 10 times better "Back to the future". It really makes you think of what really means to change the future, not by travelling back in time ...

Advantages: Not too fast, not too slow - a feel good movie Disadvantages: none
"Frequency" starring Dennis Quaid, and Jim Caviezel is an excellent feel-good movie. Jim Cavaziel plays a cop whose father died in a warehouse fire when he was a child. Dennis Quaid is his father. During an Aurora Borealis he is connected to his father on an old ham radio - miraculously found in a trunk by his best friend's son, earlier that day, while he was looking for fishing gear. Although the father does not believe this 'voice from the future', ...

Advantages: Story Disadvantages: Not very exciting
Well, this film was a little intersting. An original story line, but less spectacular on the screen. This film is more thought than action, which was probably only in the fire fighting scenes.
I must admit, that talking to your own son in the future is a bit freaky, and probably a strange phenomena caused by some solar storms.
Some bits I don't quite believe as I am a bit of a physics type person, who thinks about time and space. It may not be ...
