Advantages: Ford scrubs up nicely in a suit. Disadvantages: Predictable bank robbery thriller.
After a busy day on my feet, traipsing around a shopping centre all I wanted was a nice film to watch in the evening with my glass of Baileys. Somehow I ended up watching Firewall.
The first ten minutes of the film introduce you to Harrison Ford, a successful Head of Network Security for a Seattle bank, his wife Beth (Virginia Masden) and his two kids Sarah (Carly Schroeder) and Andy (Jimmy Bennett). The film starts mundanely with bickering kids ... ...film is going to be as dull as dishwater, a very slow start and I'm already yawning extensively. Ford scrubs up very well in a suit and looks every bit the part of an Executive member of the Board, Jack Stanfield. He plays the character as a serious man with the responsibilities of his position weighing heavily on his shoulders. This is even before the film kick starts into action which is a shame really as you rarely get to see Ford smile.
Essentially ...

Advantages: Paul Bettany and Mary Lynn Rajskub Disadvantages: The plotline, Ford's acting, almost everything else.
When I was deciding on a film to watch last night, I fancied something with some action and an exciting plot line, and when I saw this, I thought it would be the best one out of my selection. How wrong could I be?! I really expected this film to be great, but I felt really disappointed by it, and here's why. The basic outline of the movie is that Harrison Ford plays Jack Stanfield, a Head of Network Security at a bank, meaning he is a security expert. ... ...who want him to steal $100 million from the bank, but things don't go quite to plan. Queue a lot of screaming, attempts at escape, ridiculous solutions about how to rob the bank, and some violent scenes between Ford and Bettany. Paul Bettany plays the brains behind the operation, Bill Cox, an Englishman who is determined to make Jack steal the money.
The film had a great cast list, and the fact that both Harrison Ford and Paul Bettany were in it ...

Advantages: Passes the time I suppose Disadvantages: Predictable, Cliched and Nothing New
...wrong on both accounts but Firewall is a bland movie and plays out like the routine thriller Harrison Ford seems to do every couple of years. In this movie Ford plays bank security expert Jack Stanfield. His job requires him to maintain the security of the banks financials and it's something he does very well. This is demonstrated in a brief scene where Jack spouts some dull computer babble and throws something into the works to stop a hacker. Needless ... ...seen a mile off.
Firewall is just one of those movies that brings nothing new to the table but you can't say it's bad but you can't say it's good. It's just satisfactory and nothing more, it's the kind of film you'd only see at the cinema if your first choice was sold out. Other than that you'd happily just flick it on in a couple of years time when it comes on TV.
Harrison Ford now appears to be in a comfort zone, playing the same kind of character ...

Advantages: It's disposable entertainment Disadvantages: Harrison Ford's too long in the tooth to play an action hero
Computer security specialist Jack Stansfield has an ideal life; a good job at a bank, a loving wife and happy kids. But his perfect world is blown apart when his identity is stolen. Then his family is taken hostage and he is forced to find a way to rob his employers, otherwise his wife and children will be killed.
I thought Richard Loncraine was an odd choice to helm this thriller, considering his last film was fluffy romantic comedy "Wimbledon". ... ...matter. It amounts to no more than an action thriller by numbers. The Stansfields live a picture perfect upper middle class life that is rudely interrupted when their home is invaded. It is unclear why so many upwardly mobile families decide to live in utter isolation with so little decent security. You'd think they'd never seen a film before. Loncraine clearly believes that grainy digital footage of the family being watched makes the danger they ...

Advantages: Good intense performances from the leads Disadvantages: Robert Patrick completely underused
IT expert Jack Stanfield (Harrison Ford) finds himself in a spot of trouble when his wife and two kids are held hostage in their high security home, with the demand being that he helps a sophisticated group of organised criminals break into the mega-secure system that he helped design to protect the bank. Going through the motions, Jack at first is resourceful in his attempts to free his family and not land himself in trouble with the company he ... ...outwitted by the brilliantly refined leader of the kidnappers Bill (played perfectly by a cool Paul Bettany) at every turn. Accepting that the only way he can save his family is to relent and assist the group, but as every movie protagonist knows, there is just no way a clever criminal is going to allow you to see his face and live. Framing Stanfield for murder, and explaining the mysterious disappearance of his family is all in a days work, and ...

Advantages: Familiar storylines, some okay suspense and acting (Paul Bettany) Disadvantages: Firewall (2006) - disappointing
This heist film comes courtesy of director Richard Loncraine, who directed Paul Bettany in Wimbledon and brings him in as the villain in this 2006 film Firewall.
The Plot
I.T. expert Jack Stanfield is the brains behind many security systems. A family man, he leads a pretty normal existence until his family are kidnapped and held to ransom. Jack must bypass his own security systems and rob a bank he is protecting in order to preserve the safety ... ...the desperate actions of a man for whom family is of the utmost importance.
The Cast and Performances
Harrison Ford is very good at playing distressed characters, with Han Solo and Indiana Jones being prime examples. This time round, although the Jack Stanfield character is distressed, Ford doesn't really pull it off. There is an unconvincing air about his character, and I am not sure whether this is down to the script or the acting. Paul Bettany ...

Advantages: Good story, good cast, some clever action scenes. Disadvantages: Maybe a little short.
This film was released almost silently and is unheard of or not seen by most people i have spoken to.
It has a good cast with Harrison Ford in the lead role and Paul Bettany as the main villian of the film. It also features an up and coming 16 year old actress called Carly Schroeder who you may or may not have heard of, but certainly will do in the future if you havent yet.
The film follows Harrison Ford as Jack Stanfield who is in charge of preventing ... ...his family are taken hostage and he is forced by the criminals to obtain them $100 million by hacking into the system he is in charge of.
I have looked at some reviews of this film over the internet and i feel it has been unfairly criticised in a lot of cases. It is a gripping story with plenty going on constanly to keep you guessing whats going to happen next.
The ending of this film has often been criticised but without giving anything anyway ...

Advantages: Nice plot, would make any woman proud of her man Disadvantages: A bit shallow, not really high tech
A strange title huh??? Well, that is the lasting memory it left me with. It's all about how a bank manager of a relatively small bank is set up to break into his own bank cos it is seen as watertight by some thieves trying to rob it.
The typical taking of the family hostage is the anchor to get the bank manager (Ford) to cooperate. Of course he tries to pull a fast one here and there but the thieves are quite prepared and teach him they are not ... ...want, he turns the game and takes the drivers seat and directs how the goods are delivered and his family restored. I'm sure you get the picture.
I guess I went to see the film cos it was Harrisson Ford who in my opinion is a great actor and his films are decent too. The acting and filming was great but the plot a bit too shallow for an analytical mindlike mine. No real surprises if you know what I mean.
That said, it was an enjoyable film and ...

Advantages: Good plot Disadvantages: A bit slow in places
After the slow beginning, this film draws you into the action. Not quite what i expected. There is little hacking or computer espionage involved, which wasn't a disappointment, but from the film title, i had gathered that it would be all about this sort of thing. Harrison Ford takes on a slightly different light as a vunerable person at the beginning of the film, but towords the end, he's back to his usual self. Paul Bettany makes a great villan ... ...pleased. I don't think my dad fell asleep whilst watching it, which, believe me, is really somthing. The plot is as follows:
Jack Stanfield (Harrison Ford) is a security boss at a big Seattle bank becomes a victim of some identety theft and supposedly runs up a big gambling debt. Just when he thinks his day couldn't get any worse, he and his family are held hostage in their own home. Jack has to get around his own security systems to get the ransom ...

Advantages: GREAT ACTION & PLOTS Disadvantages: SHOULDVE CHOSEN A DIFFERENT LEAD ACTOR
Ive only just seen this film recentley from hire, and i must say was a good choice.Harrison Ford manages to get himself into a spot of bother by arrangeing a deal with a dud dealer basically. The bad guy sets up a monstrosity at poor Harrison Fords home wilst hes making his big deal. After making his big deal at a plush resturant,he gets in his car quite happily to go home to his family who are under hostage & awaiting patiently for his return. Only ... ...puts a gun to his back and tells him like it is.He wants access to all the banks safes, at least 10,000 customers account numbers copyed onto a disc & sent to his account . Harrison starts off brilliantly by lying & saying he doesnt own a gun & not having 1 in his house. But they find it. Harrison has to save his family and get this baddy what he wants without his workforce latching on.Its great action and its a good ending altho its very predictable ...

Advantages: good plot Disadvantages: sound-track wasn't very well mixed into the film
Now the other review about this film is a tonne of rubbish. This film wasn't bad at all. I rather enjoy fims which envolve blackmail. I would recommend this film to people who like action and thriller films. Harrison Ford is a well decorated actor, from Indiana Jones to Air Force One. Which are brilliant films. He is getting rather old now, but still at his best from what i saw in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull.
The films plot ... ...responsible for the security of the computer system of a small bank. He is very connected to his family, his wife Beth, a teenager daughter and a young son. When the gang led by the criminal Bill Cox invades his house, they force Jack to transfer a hundred million dollars to a bank account in Cayman Islands as ransom for his family. When Bill does not release his family, Jack tries to save them by his own. I rate this film as 8/10. ...

Advantages: Has its moments Disadvantages: Rubbish ending!
Overall, an enjoyable movie, until the end when it felt like the director got sick of the movie and said "that's a wrap. everyone leave".
Fortunately, they didn't go overboard with the usual lousy computer scenes you normally see in a movie. In fact, the whole name of "Firewall" is poorly chosen.
If you're looking for a simple pseudo-thriller that follows the typical script, you'll enjoy this. If you're looking for more than that, look elsewhere.
