Advantages: Cowboys in Space by Joss Whedon creator of Buffy! Disadvantages: Only one series made because it was canceled.
In the middle of 2005 I heard about this film called "Serenity", a story set on a space ship yet it seemed to have cowboys in it. At first I thought what on earth is going on!? Then a friend of mine mentioned the TV series that the film was a continuation from called "Firefly". That was unfortunately cancelled by fox far too prematurely. Anyhow a friend of mine continued to rave on about the series until I saw it so cheap on Amazon one day I thought ... ...never seen it advertised on TV in the UK. The day it arrived I watched about five episodes back to back and I was hooked, the combination of great plot along with Joss Whedon (Creator of Buffy and Angels) usual flare for character depth made this such a great show. The show itself is set in a Post War period in the future in which the last two superpowers America and China have taken on the rest of the world and won. This results in a society which ...

Advantages: An awesome and innovative sci-fi series Disadvantages: They only ever made 14 episodes
'''Plot'''
Joss Whedon's Firefly was canceled during the first season, with several episodes left un-aired. The only way to see them (and the rest of the series) is to buy the DVD set. It's well worth investing in - the complex mix of sci-fi and western themes combines with a lovable and mysterious set of characters that will leave you wanting more as each episode comes to a close.
The best episode is 'Out of Gas' - not only are all of the characters ... ...for 'Shindig'
Disc 3 - Commentaries for 'Out of Gas' and 'War Stories'
Disc 4 - Commentaries for 'The Message' and 'Objects in Space', 3 featurettes, 4 deleted scenes, Alan Tudyk's audition tape, a gag reel, Joss Whedon singing the Firefly theme tune and Alan Baldwin singing 'Hero of Canton'. ...

Advantages: Humour, sci fi and western all in one. Disadvantages: Not enough of it!
I couldnt get enough of this series, unfortunately there isnt much of it. only half a usual US run with 14, episodes but no less quality in terms of production and style. The actors /characters quickly get under your skin and the plot lines are fun twists on traditional cowboy themes. Once recognised you have the pleasure of feeling smug as you 'get the jokes and references'. perfect!
The story line follows a future society set up on western pioneer ... ...new worlds and allows for experimental (often repressive), authorities and so allows opportunities for new more inventive scenarios to develop in successive episodes. The protagonists are the mismatched crew of a crumbling space ship and we grow to love them as they lurch from one adventure to the next. In flashback we are given an insight into how the crew got together and our expectations are often challenged as they are not predictable in their ...

Advantages: Great cast, top writing, solid crew. Everyone worked hard on this show Disadvantages: Cancelled shortly after it found it's stride
I'll be honest and admit before this show I had never checked out much of Joss Whedon's work. I'd heard of him but in my age group, it was hard not to have heard of him. After lots and LOTS of friends recommended me to try this show and I went out and bought the DVD… I was instantly hooked!
This creative mix of the Science Fiction and Western genre, along with great actors and awesome writers produced one of the best shows in recent memory. Just ...

Advantages: Brilliant Premise, Full of Action and Laughs Disadvantages: Cancelled after 14 episodes
...that unless you've seen the Firefly series the film won't make much sense to you.
Firefly series? This I had to see.
At first I was a bit apprehensive. Josh Whedon was responsible for Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I really couldn't stand that series, especially in the later series'. But I conceded that in the beginning Buffy wasn't actually that bad, so hopefully Firefly wouldn't disappoint.
It most certainly did not. The stories, the characters, ... ...laser guns and horses. What's not to love?
I fail to see how anyone could not love this series. Some of the scene switches in the very beginning are not explained, so I was a bit confused as to what was going on for a few minutes, but things soon sorted themselves out. Such teething problems soon disappeared and I was left with 14 hours of enjoyable TV.
I've not yet seen Serenity, but it's already on it's way in the post to me. ...

Advantages: brilliant science fiction Disadvantages: you'll crave for more
"Star wars" meets "Gone with the wind" meets "Minority report" meets "Deadwood" A hidden gem, which hopefully will be brought back to life by
"Serenity". I don't understand why dull "fly in space, meet humanoids (because we can not think and afford better props)
show like "Star trek" goes on and on and more imaginative "Firefly" only survived one season". I love 'em all - the confederate
Captain, red haired pilot/black beauty officer couple, romantic ... ...gifted sister, the Priest, the not-so-bad Warrior, the Geisha. My criticism is about deep reverence to "Star wars". Do all goverment stuff irrespective of the galaxy have to wear the same uniform?
The DVD itself is well made, I like quality of the soundtrack as well
PS To people who find my review "unhelpful"
I don't give a damn about consumer satisfaction. this is "no spoilers" review of the film, not of the box set. I don't believe that a book's ...
