FIREFLY
The Show That Could Have Been
Joss Whedon is one of the few geniuses in the industry right now, and this show, Firefly, was the TV series that got me hooked on all of Joss Whedon's creations. Firefly seamlessly fused the swashbuckling action of the western genre with the intricate mythos of science-fiction. As always, I've read about all the hype around the web first before finally deciding to ...

...to watch the television series Firefly as the film was actually a continuation of that storyline. As this doesn't seem to appear on TV that often (that I've noticed at least) the only choice I really had was to buy the boxset. After a short period of searching I found it at Amazon for a very reasonable price, bought it, watched it and now I'm ready to share my thoughts on the "special edition" DVD boxset….

Advantages: entertaining, exciting, wonderful characterization Disadvantages: They cancelled the series
...Alliance. It's set aboard a Firefly class transport ship called Serenity, named after a major battle during the war. The ship's captain will take any job regardless of legality in order to keep his crew safe and paid. This means that they're often in trouble with the law. Trouble becomes an understatement however when they take on some passengers.
The series feels very much like a western at times. The boarder worlds where much of the action takes ...

Advantages: Fantastic series, exciting, great characters, dialogue, humour...the list goes on! Disadvantages: Only fourteen episodes
...watched these past seven months, Firefly is by far the best.
I bought the DVD box set after watching and loving the film Serenity and wanting to see more of this wonderful world and cast of characters.
**About Firefly**
Firefly was first broadcast in 2002 on the Fox Network in the US. After eleven episodes had aired, the show was cancelled. A lot of what I've read around the internet says that this was in part due to Fox's poor handling of ...

...review. Suffice to say Firefly converted me from only healthy sci-fi geekery (Star Trek, Stargate, Star Wars etc) to fully-fledged obsession. For your £14.43 (delivered) to Amazon you get four DVDs and fourteen episodes of complete perfection that personally speaking, will remain a favourite for the rest of my life.
An extremely good summary of the plot can be found in the other review of this DVD, so I will merely precis it here: 500 years into ...

...TV series), Angel and then Firefly seems an odd progression of ideas from their creator, Joss Whedon. But then I had a look on imdb to see if that was really how it went and I noticed that Toy Story, Alien: Resurection (what was he thinking) and Titan AE are also in the list. The point is, Joss Whedon has a good TV pedigree. I liked the Buffy film, and the start of the Buffy series at least but I think I had grown out of it by the time Angel came ...

Advantages: The boxset is inexspensive, and you can also get a feature length movie called Serenity to go with it, long lasting entertainment, crosses genres so that nonsci fi fans still get hooked Disadvantages: Fox cancelled it, so unless someone commisons more, this is it. Did I mention this show is addictive?
I came upon this series quite by accident. I was looking through listings one night, and nothing else decent was on at the time, so I flicked to the Sci Fi channel's reshowing of the original Star Trek series. That moment changed my life forever, and made me a big flan (NO, that is NOT a typo) and, dare I admit it, a Browncoat. For just that moment, as the channel came into focus, an advertisement for a show beginning that Friday came on. The show? ...

Advantages: Excellent cast, brilliant and innovative storyline. Disadvantages: not enough of them...Bring back Firefly!
...But the fact is, the Firefly concept is one which works perfectly, here you have a show which displays people flying around in space-ships with laser beams, warp drive and all the other trappings of the future, while also shooting each other with derringers and occasionally charging away on a horse. What Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame) has created is a series which manages to deal with the future in a way that maintains the characters' ...

DVD menu isn't as nice. My personal view is that it doesn't suit the opening sequence or style of the series, but nonetheless acceptable.
All in all an absorbing, can't stop watching, must see again and again series. With extras that only add to the spark and wonder of the original show. ...

Cowboys in space. That is what my friend told me when he recommended 'Firefly' I mean what is not to like, cowboys in space, it is every boys dream combination. Where the inner worlds are ruled under the fist of law, the outer worlds are home to farmers and gangs, a clever range of technology between each world makes it feel like they really are different planets.
This is a brilliant series about a team of freelancers who will do any job to put ...

...guys loose. Only difference in firefly is that the good guys are just like the bad guys, just a bit querkier. The scene is a few hundred years into the future, after the browncoats (resistance) lost the battle of Serenity, two of its members sarted up a ship to go wherever they pleased, and to make a new life. The characters which make an appearance in every episode are introduced in the pilot (as usual), and it goes on from there to show anything ...

...starships flying through space? Well Firefly is one of those programmes which is changing the face of sci fi and how we think about it. No more constant technobabble about ions and warpspeed, instead we are treated to a galaxy that is not perfect-worlds that resemble the wild west dotted with shanty towns and spaceships that look realistic and like something that actually works as well as an oppressive government.
The characters too are believable ...
