Advantages: Wonderful cast, great performances Disadvantages: The sound broke down at the cinema and the film made me cry
Scottish author JM Barrie was the man who will forever be known as the creator of “Peter Pan”. “Finding Neverland” shows how a man whose marriage and career were on the rocks found inspiration in a young widow and her four sons to write his masterpiece.
Marc Forster seems to be very much an actor’s director, having previously coaxed an Oscar-winning performance out of Halle Berry in “Monster’s Ball”, a feat that seems all the more remarkable considering ...

Advantages: A brilliantly acted, bitter-sweet biopic of J.M. Barrie Disadvantages: A glossing over of some of the truths
Finding Neverland is basically a film about the man who laments the loss of his childhood and who writes a story about a boy who doesn’t grow up. It is the story of Sir J.M. Barrie and his inspiration for his most famous book, Peter Pan.
David Magee based his screenplay on the play of the same name by Allan Knee. It is a fictional story “inspired by true events”; or so the caption at the start of the film tells us. .
The film opens as Barrie ...

...Hollywood movies of recent times Finding Neverland starring two of my favorite stars Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet . Its touted to be one of the strong Oscar contenders and watching this movie its understandable why.
Finding Neverland is a throwback to the 50's and 60's era of Hollywood, where emphasis was on the story and characters, not on style and special effects. Finding Neverland is a movie that appeals to the kid in all of us, it's a throwback ...

...very little about their creator. Finding Neverland addresses this imbalance in the case of J.M. Barrie, author of one of the most famous children's stories ever and offers a beautiful and moving, if highly romanticised story of an important part of his life. Johnny Depp takes on the role of the author and, as is often the case with this talented and versatile actor, turns in a classic performance. It seems that every role Depp touches turns to gold, ...

Advantages: Wonderful characters and based on true events Disadvantages: Its so sad in places
This film, based on true events, lives the story of a writer looking for inspiration, he finds it in the most unusual of places, but how much will an amazing play cost him?
THE CHARACTERS
James Barrie - Played by Johnny Depp
An aspiring writer, who despite a lack of talent has become a less than good playright. He looks everywhere for inspiration and carries a journal to take notes on anything and everything.
Mary Barrie - Played by Radha ...

Advantages: Great acting, direction and script Disadvantages: You'll probably get all teary eyed!
I've never really been one for biopics. For example, I avoided Will Smith's "Ali" like the plague despite a deep respect and admiration for it's subject. But I am a huge Johnny Depp fan and went along with some friends who wanted to see this and boy am I glad that I did!
PLOT:
Scottish playwright J.M. Barrie (Depp) is a highly popular success but feels trapped within the world of theatre, not to mention his marriage to a bitter woman (Mitchell) ...

Advantages: Better than expected, a good 'biopic', better than Big Fish Disadvantages: Could have explored some relationships more deepy
Finding Neverland is a somewhat factual almost psychological attempt at looking at the origins of JM Barrie's Peter Pan world. However all this is buried beneath the extraordinary imagination and magic of the Peter Pan world which the film portrays. In a similar style to Big Fish which brings the imagination into the fray so too does Finding Neverland although I feel in a more relevant manner.
Being set in Edwardian England, the distinction in ...

...on every copy of the Finding Neverland DVD. It is likely you will be in tears at the end, so therefore if you don't like weepies, or fairy stories for that matter, this film isn't going to be for you. However, if you're a true Peter Pan fan who likes magic and imagination, then I thoroughly recommend it to you. If nothing else this film is a true celebration of one of the world's most loved stories, and you don't need to be a child to appreciate it. ...

Advantages: Sweet movie, good portrayal of the author Disadvantages: Not a great deal of plot
I went to see this film yesterday, and in a way, I'm glad I did actually go to see it. It hasn't been an overly popular film at my local cinema, and my presence was graced by only 2 other individuals at the show.
Finding Neverland is a loosly based portrayal of James M Barrie, a playwright in the early 1900's in London.
The film shows Barrie's latest play flop, and his producer, Charles Frohman, played by Dustin Hoffman, pushes him to write another ...

Advantages: Truly original, beautiful and engaging. Disadvantages: You will most probably cry like a baby...I know I did!
When I first heard of Finding Neverland, I wasn't particularly excited. It really didn't sound like my kind of movie, but then again, Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors, so I jotted it down in my memory as something that could be worth watching.
As it was, I'd went to the cinema quite a lot over the past few weeks and when my dad asked me to go see a film with him there wasn't much on I hadn't already seen, so I ended up heading towards ...

Advantages: A true classic, a lauch and a tear and still uplifting, great acting, Disadvantages: Not for the youngest of viewers
First of all I, in my review I will not say much about "what it is about". That is not so important and can be read elsewhere., but here is my summary.
It is about a playwright who meets and helps a young family in dire straits by taking the children into a an imaginairy world to escape the harch reality of thier lives and then writes a play based on this imaginary world: Peter Pan.
What it really is about is the notion that with compassion, ...

Advantages: A magical film with a superb cast. Disadvantages: Take a big box of tissues
The film explores JM Barrie's inspiration behind Peter Pan through everyday occurances and charactershis chance meeting with a young family, the Llewellyn-Davies'.
The selection of the main cast is an insipration, Johnny Depp, as JM Barrie, yet again proving his versatility with accents. He brings to life Barrie's idea that society has become far too austere, and no longer believes in the fantastical.
Kate Winslet as Sylvia Llewellyn-Davies, is ...

Advantages: Beautifully played timeless film, a classic. Disadvantages: Made me cry
As many other reviewers have stated, the story centres around the author JM Barrie and his creative journey bringing Peter Pan to life ... from the inspirations for the characters (the four fatherless sons of Sylvia Llewelyn-Davies) to it's First Night performance.
The film is based around the stage play 'The Man Who Was Peter Pan' and Johnny Depps portrayal of JM Barrie is beautifully captured , his accent was truly lovely , and the magical escapism ...
