final destination - predictability

Advantages: A new idea
Disadvantages: A little predictable

A strange film, this. A boy called Alex is going to France with a lot of friends (and enemies) on a school excursion. As he sits in his seat on the plane he starts to have a vision of the plane's engine exploding in the air. The plane gets ripped open and some of his friends get sucked out the rest of them die in the crash. Then he wakes up. He sees the same things happening as in his vision; the same people asking him to switch seats. He gets freaked ...
...has to get off the plane, it's going to explode. Needless to say most people don't really like this, one jerk getting up and starting a fight with him. So they're escorted off the plane. A few other people follow them off, friends and teacher. In the end 7 of them have to stay in the airport; Alex, his best friend Tod, the jerk, the jerk's girlfriend, their teacher, another guy who's just freaked out about the whole thing, and a mysterious girl ...

Advantages: Ali Larter, and thats it
Disadvantages: No bad-guy, terrible cast, everything else!

...not only do I hate Final Destination, I loath, despise and detest it - and yet I like horror films, its just that Final Destination is terrible! but lets give you readers a fair go here, why did I end up buying this monstrosity of a movie if I ended up detesting it so much? well I didn't buy it as such, WHSmith had an offer on - 2 DVDs for £30 and I had £25 spare on my Clubcard and heck I'm a sucker for buying movies I admit it. So whats it all ...
...plane with all his class buddies to go on a trip to France, whilst sat there waiting for the plane to take off he dozes off (bless him hes got a long and rather dull movie ahead of him), in that doze he has a dream (I could do a cheesy sing along joke there - but I won't), but its not a nice dream though, definitely not - its a premonition, and not a good one, he dreams (in one of the few decent scenes there is) that the plane is going to explode ...

...comprimise was reached! Final Destination is billed as a teen horror, and it stars some young "unknown" actors, who we will probably be seeing a lot more of in the furture. I thought Scream had exhausted this genre, but writer and director James Wong has taken a different approach to the movie. He has made an inventive, funny, and most importantly, an enjoyable film. He was part of the original team that created X Files, and you can see where he ...
...value. The big difference with Final Destination is that there is no "baddie", no Jason or Freddy Krueger. The film starts with a group of high school students on a trip from The US to Paris. When they board the plane Alex (Devon Sawa) falls asleep and has a premonition that the plane will explode. He causes a commotion trying to get off the plane, and the authorities end up ejecting 7 of them including a teacher from the flight. While they are arguing ...

Spectacular But Soulless

Advantages: Good storyline, excellent special effects.
Disadvantages: Average cast, lacks substance, poor conclusion.

As a big fan of "The X-Files" I was intrigued by what "Final Destination" might have to offer. The direction is credited to James Wong and the writing the Glen Morgan, two of the very finest writers of "The X-Files" who scripted and produced some of the best episodes of the series. Sadly, "Final Destination" fails to seriously impress, though it is not without its good points. The premise is a good one at least: a group of teenagers abandon a plane ...
...it does indeed crash - in an excellent and very powerful scene - but having left the plane the few are spared. Fate, however, has other ideas, and tries to catch up with them by killing each in a series of extrapolated and extra-gruesome ways. he conclusion, sad to say, is something of a damp squib, but the rest will keep you riveted. The action is half-comic, half-horror and mainly pivots around who will be the victim of the next killing and exactly ...

...are often massively exciting, and Final Destination is definitely no exception. Packed with a considerable amount of deaths and scares and bursting with originality, the pulse-accelerating film, directed by James Wong, makes you laugh, scream and cringe. The film is presented in a 16:9 Ratio whilst Dolby Digital 5.1 is used for sound. A choice of English subtitles is available for hearing impaired. The film begins as forty-six students begin to ...

In many cases, deaths will cause silence as viewers become speechless, and in others, viewers will feel obligated to scream and warn film characters to beware of the disturbing fate they will surely meet. The acting is of high standard, considering that the majority of characters ...

You Cant Cheat Death

Advantages: Not a standard american teen horror flick
Disadvantages: none

Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) has a premoniton that the 747 carrying him and his school classmates is going to explode shortly after take off. So real is the vision that he is escorted off of the plane along with a handful of others after causing a scene. As they are waiting at the terminal the plane explodes exactly as Alex saw in his vision. They had escaped death . . . but can anyone actually escape death? When one of the survivors dies under mysterious ...

IS THIS YOUR FINAL DESTINATION

Advantages: Great to watch
Disadvantages: Usual plotline and easy to tell who was next

...I went to see the Final Destination at the cinema. I enjoy all things horror, particularly in literature, but have always been disappointed with films (don’t you feel most leave too little to the imagination?), so the site of a room full of people jumping and shrieking made me hope this would be a real scare feast. It wasn’t. But wait. I went to see Final Destination twice at the cinema, for several different but equally pleasing reasons. I guess, ...
...Now as I said before, Final Destination is not a particularly scary movie, or at least not in the traditional sense of the word. One thing is that some of the special affects are very hard-hitting, and feelings of horror (or perhaps sickness) must reside in most viewers as they ‘wow’ at the plane crashing or the drawn out deaths. The film also relies a lot on ‘shock’ tactics, meaning things creeping up on the viewers and taking them by ...

Final Destination is the best horror film in the post-scream rip offs and gives us a great storyline with good performances frmo all the cast (especially Sawa and Kerr), creepy scares and intelligent characters. Chillingly Realistic, You Will Not Be Disapointed

Advantages: Incredibly watchable and absorbing, some chilling moments of horror
Disadvantages: Not quite as good as I was expecting. Nevertheless, good show

Final Destination - over the last few months there's been a lot of talk about this movie, in both newspapers and on TV review shows. And after all the fuss I missed seeing it at my local Cinema. But after just renting it out on video llast night, and finally experiencing the movie at first hand, here is my review. The main character is a young guy called Alex, who is embarking on a trip to Paris with his school French class. Minutes after he sets ...
...in Alex's premonition... Final Destination wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but I certainly wasn't dissapointed. It is a chillingly entertaining film, where you become increasingly absorbed in the plot. And one you probably shouldn't watch before jetting off to Paris yourself! Nevertheless, I recommend you rent yourself a copy from your video store, so you can judge for yourself (rated 15). ...

Good film in need of an ending

Advantages: Good film overall
Disadvantages: Ending could have been better

Good film in need of an ending To label this a 'Teen horror' flick would do it an injustice. It is much more than that, though it does share some characteristics with the likes of Scream and it’s genre. The principle players are all 'Pretty' teens and you can be sure they’ll be a few casualties along the way. It relies on a quota of 'Shock' moments that will have you jumping in your seat but it is all done with some originality and sense of style. ...
...elements coming from a mile off. Suffice to say our hero has a premonition about an impending plane crash and from it he is able to save the lives of some of his classmates. However, 'Death' will not stay cheated for long and it soon becomes clear they only have a slim chance of being around for the sequel. There is no serial killer or monster and, although sometimes a little horrific, the manner of death that befalls the victims is entertaining ...

...and direction and you have Final Destination. These types of film are just becoming slicker and slicker. The film is clever as it builds on a subject that many people, I included, find fascinating. If you are interested in the subject of ‘Omen Terror’ (I really don’t know what to call this subject) then I recommend you take a look at the DVD, as there is a true story documentary about a nice lady who sees the future, for a living. ...

Premonitions of the character’s (Alex) fate, lead to a gang of survivors trying to cheat death throughout the film. ‘The idea is that if your supposed to go and you decide to avoid it, chances are death will be waiting around the corner’. Which is what happens to our heroes. Like Scream ...

Not a horrible horror film

Advantages: Interesting and involving plot, lots of extra features, good acting, effects good too
Disadvantages: Lack of quality of features, overuse of abusive language, sometimes slightly gory

I am not a great fan of horror films in general. I think that they can be over-powerfully disturbing and scaring of the mind (mine in particular) and tend to disrupt the way in which we view our lives. I was therefore rather reluctant to watch this movie, although, when I did watch it, I found myself enjoying it a great deal, and now I consider it to be one of the best films that I have seen in a long while. The story revolves around a group of ...
...at the last minute because one of them had a premonition that the plane was going to blow up mid-flight. These people are then seeked by the Grim Reaper as they should have died when they didn't. It is extremely fast moving and there are action scenes at least once every 10 minutes or so so there is never a boring moment. It is full of twists and cleverly thought up smaller scenes which go together to make a brilliant action/horror. It is, in a way ...

What happens when you cheat Death

Advantages: An original idea which made for a chilling and s**t scary movie
Disadvantages: Bad ending

Boarding a flight to Paris with forty of his schoolmates, Alex (Devon Sawa – Mighty Ducks, Casper) has a nightmarish vision in which the plane explodes on take off. In his panic, he freaks everyone out, and he and a handful of other students are thrown off the plane by security guards for fighting over Alex’s absurd claims. They are still arguing back inside the airport, whilst in the background, the jet is barely off the ground when ...

By saving themselves by getting off the plane, the gang have in fact “cheated” Death. But, because it’s their “time”, now each of them must, in turn, die, and it is up to Alex to intervene with fate. I personally thought the ‘What If’ storyline ...

Who is next on fate's agenda

Advantages: It will scare you silly, guaranteed
Disadvantages: None

This film first came out when I was pregnant, and even though I really wanted to go and see it, I was terrified of doing so in case I got that scared I went into labour (this, in hindsight, probably wouldn't have been too bad really since I was 9 days late in the end). Much to my joy, it was still showing a couple of weeks after my son was born, so off to the cinema hubby and I went. Being a huge fan of horrors and thrillers I am slightly ashamed ...
...spent half the time hiding in my husband’s shoulder if it got too scary. There were occasions, however, that even I didn't see what was coming next until it was shoved in my face and I didn't get chance to cower. The film begins and we soon realise that a class of soon to be school leavers are about to embark on a trip to France. Everyone is on the plane and ready to go when Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) has a terrifying premonition, which leads ...
