A strange film, this. A boy called Alex is going to France with a lot of friends (and enemies) on a school excursion. As he sits in his seat on the plane he starts to have a vision of the plane's engine exploding in the air. The plane gets ripped open and some of his friends get sucked out the rest of them die in the crash. Then he wakes up. He sees the same things happening as in his vision; the same people asking him to switch seats. He gets freaked ...
...has to get off the plane, it's going to explode. Needless to say most people don't really like this, one jerk getting up and starting a fight with him. So they're escorted off the plane. A few other people follow them off, friends and teacher. In the end 7 of them have to stay in the airport; Alex, his best friend Tod, the jerk, the jerk's girlfriend, their teacher, another guy who's just freaked out about the whole thing, and a mysterious girl ...

As a big fan of "The X-Files" I was intrigued by what "Final Destination" might have to offer. The direction is credited to James Wong and the writing the Glen Morgan, two of the very finest writers of "The X-Files" who scripted and produced some of the best episodes of the series. Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) has a premoniton that the 747 carrying him and his school classmates is going to explode shortly after take off. So real is the vision that he is escorted off of the plane along with a handful of others after causing a scene. As they are waiting at the terminal the plane explodes exactly as Alex saw in his vision. They had escaped death . . . but can anyone actually escape death? Good film in need of an ending To label this a 'Teen horror' flick would do it an injustice. It is much more than that, though it does share some characteristics with the likes of Scream and it’s genre. The principle players are all 'Pretty' teens and you can be sure they’ll be a few casualties along the way. It relies on a quota of 'Shock' moments that will have you jumping in your seat but it is all done with some originality and sense of style. ...

The film is clever as it builds on a subject that many people, I included, find fascinating. I think that they can be over-powerfully disturbing and scaring of the mind (mine in particular) and tend to disrupt the way in which we view our lives. This film first came out when I was pregnant, and even though I really wanted to go and see it, I was terrified of doing so in case I got that scared I went into labour (this, in hindsight, probably wouldn't have been too bad really since I was 9 days late in the end). Much to my joy, it was still showing a couple of weeks after my son was born, so off to the cinema hubby and I went. Being a huge fan of horrors and thrillers I am slightly ashamed ...
