Fear & Loathing follows gonzo* journalist Raoul Duke** & his attorney, Dr Gonzo***, on a trip to Las Vegas, the intention - to do a piece on the Mint 400 Desert Motorcycle race, and then later on a Narcotics & Dangerous Drugs convention, so off they set in the famous great red shark (Hunter S. Along with many actors being considered, many directors were also considered (including Martin Scorsese & Oliver Stone). There was also an attempt at an animated ...

...doesn’t really go anywhere then Fear And Loathing is the film to see. You shouldn’t see the lack of an established plot as a reason not to see this film, there is some reasoning for the characters actions and it’s basically down to drugs. Johnny Depp plays Raul Duke, a sports journalist sent to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race but instead spends his duration dropping acid and suffering the consequences. Benicio Del Toro, who ... ...pretty much unrecognisable in this flick. I don’t know whether he was told to put all that weight on, or if it’s just a body suit. If he did put the weight on his insurance must have sky-rocketed. Well anyway, he plays the part of Raul’s attorney, Dr. Gonzo and does the usual attorney things. You know, advises him on the law and how much acid to take while on vacation.
There is the mis-conception that this film attempts to glorify ...

...line summary of the film, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas explodes onto the screen. Although it seems fairly futile to add what must be around the 16th review of a product, I still feel compelled to extol the virtues of this fine cinematic triumph to all who are willing to hear me.
However, firstly a word of caution: this is not a film which will appeal to everyone. The plot is - in the words of the Pythons - wafer thin. This can largely be attributed ... ...this and we can experience Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in all its digitised glory.
As an additional note: The reason for the lack of DVD is because of some copyright issues with the extras on the Criteron version being released in the UK, so the process of releasing a DVD in region 2 format has become more complicated. I don't know the ins and outs but it does mean that the lack of release isn't because of lack interest, it is in fact a legal ...

Advantages: Twisted, anarchic, darkly hilarious... Disadvantages: Incomprehensible if you're not in on the joke.
The question was: what would my favourite director make of one of my favourite books? Terry Gilliam certainly had the credentials - the insane animations of Monty Python; the twisted, neo-nostalgic dystopia of Brazil; the much-maligned, chaotic genius of Baron Munchaussen. What better visionary to bring Hunter S. Thompson's hallucinatory masterpiece to the screen? (Although a version by Peter Greenaway might have been interesting...)

Unsure whether to fear or loathe…
This is one of those movies that ended up in my video collection by way of a chance purchase. I knew nothing about it other than what it said on the back of the box, and that it had Johnny Depp in it. Not that I am a big fan of Mr. Depp, and not overly enamoured by films with drug culture themes. I think I watch them if they come my way to see just how idiotic some people can be under the influence. Set in ... ...Angeles, two friends go to Las Vegas for the weekend. One is a magazine journalist who needs to write an article about a local Motorcycle Rally happening in the neighbouring Nevada Desert and the instigator of this brilliant plan. This is the character played by Johnny Depp. He is accompanied by his lawyer, who I am rather suspicious of as just being along for a free ride. (And I am not entirely trusting of the lawyer bit either.) They load up the ...

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is adapted from the book of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson. It stars Johnny Depp as journalist Raoul Duke along with Benicio Del Toro as his attorney Dr.Gonzo. Advantages: Hilarious, intelligent, well-acted, faithful adaption of the book. Disadvantages: If you don't like Hunter S.Thompson or drugs you probably won't like this.
This film is an excellent and faithful adaption of the Hunter S. Thompson book of the same name. It recounts the drug fuelled adventures of Hunter (played by Johnny Depp) and his wild lawyer, Dr. Gonzo, (played by Benicio Del Toro) in Las Vegas in the early sixties. ...just about does it.
Fear & Loathing is a series of vignettes, strung together loosely to form a whole which is only vaguely cohesive, and probably only comprehensible if you're drunk. I loved it. It spoke to me in ways I can't explain. The whole thing is an excercise in the ways various drugs destroy the brain, creating different and utterly bizarre realities for the user (memorably peopling a hotel bar with giant, blood drinking lizards...) Don't ... ...evil as well as good, and this is only an advert for drug abuse in the same way as Trainspotting...
The plot, as outlined above, is very simple. Taken from Hunter S. Thompson's book of the same name, and it's more or less a carbon copy adaption. It's the seventies, and gonzo journalist Thompson (Depp) has been hired to cover a desert motorbike race outside Las Vegas. His fat, equally twisted Samoan attorney (Del Toro) shoehorns his way into the ...

This is a fantastic and quirky film from start to finish. It is set in 1971. Johnny Depp plays journalist Raul Duke and Benicio Del Toro plays his insane attorney Dr. Gonzo. Both of them embark on a journey to Las Vegas to cover the mint 400 race in the Nevada desert.
The supplies they take on their drug- fuelled odyssey are a salt shaker half full of cocaine, fifty pellets of mescallin, a sheet of sunshine acid, a quarter full bottle of rum and ... ...Vegas they pick up a hitch hiker and start seeing bats flying around in the sky. (Must be the drugs). Once they’re in Las Vegas they take more drugs and keep taking drugs until they go home, basically.
Johnny Depp There are also some cameo appearances from the likes of Christina Ricci and Cameron Diaz. A truly fantastic and fascinating film exploring drugs. Classic if you like that sort of thing.
5 out of 5.

Review of Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (DVD)
Fear and loathing in Las Vegas starring is one of the funniest films I’ve seen. It’s a tale of the effects of drug taking and alcohol drinking. The story starts with the two main characters driving down a highway acting strangely “I feel a little light headed…ahhhhh…maybe you should drive” “Then the car was surrounded by bats… Holy Jesus what are these god damn animals? Fucking flying pigs!” they pull over when the car stops we find that the car ... ...been consumed “ Wait! we can’t stop here this is bat country!” This is where I stop and let you watch the movie for yourself because “ There’s a machine in the sky, Some kind of huge electric snake!” . I strongly recommend you watch this film, Unless you’re a Drug hating priest or somthin’ but never the less a great film. “ What the fuck are we doing in the middle of the desert? ...

Advantages: Absolutely accurate, great acting, great direction, great effects Disadvantages: Not for people who are completely anti-drugs or have no real experience with them
A Big Issue seller recommended this book to me about five years ago. I enjoyed it, but couldn't really relate to it until a couple of years later, for obvious reasons.
I re-read it when I had a little more experience. I never thought that they could make a film about it. How could you capture somebodies insane trip so accurately? But then I heard that Terry Gilliam was directing a version, and I knew that if anyone could do it, he could.
It comes ... ...a bad trip. Forget about the plot, that's not what it's about. It's sickening to watch and wil remind you of the best and worst times that you ever had on drugs. The acting is as superb as it can be with no real story. So just sit back and just enjoy the visuals, as long as you're not incredibly anti-drugs. ...

Anyone who has read the book upon which this film is based will love this. Prior Knowledge of the plot and character outlines will really enhance your enjoyment of this film. Anyone who hasnt read the book will likely experience it in a different way.
I have watched the film with members of both groups, sometimes in mixed company. The raucous laughter i heard was coming solely from the well-read in the audience, with the others looking on, bemused. ... ...paints a vivid acid trip onto the screen, with every inch of the screen bursting with activity. Depp and Del Toro, as the main protagonists, are hilarious, with comic timing still unseen in most of their other performances. Depp is Raoul Duke, a caricature of Hunter S. Advantages: Hilarious and surreal...you can see inside the character's minds Disadvantages: could well put you off dabbling in illegal substances again...
I first saw Fear and Loathing when a friend came round with the video. Unfortunately half-way through I fell into a drunken stupor and therefore was (naturally) unable to remember much about the film the next day. All I remember is that it was hilarious and the scene that stuck in my mind was of early on in the film...a hallucination of bats. The idea that two people could be idiotic enough (or brave enough) to imbibe substances whilst driving is ... ...to do yourself. To drive while under the influence of bats...
The plot is sporadic. I have intentions to read Hunter S. Thompson's original novel, based on his own experiences (when I eventually find it somewhere). Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro play journalist Raul Duke and his attorney, commissioned to cover a race in Nevada. The race is used as a cover for the real purpose of the journey, research into the effects of chemical experiments on ...

I love this film and must have seen it at least 8 times. Anyone who has read "Fear and Loathing.." will be aware of the drug-crazed debauchery that the film entails. Although it only gained a lukewarm reception on release I think that Terry Gilliam perfectly captures the narcotic induced paranoia of the tale and Thompson's off the wall sense of humour.
