...this involves putting the Griffin family - consisting of 2 parents, 2 teenage children, one baby and a dog - into "Star Wars" along with some of their friends and neighbours.
In the "Blue Harvest" episode, a show that was originally planned as the opening episode to the sixth series of the show, the Griffins are watching TV when the power goes out. To fill what would otherwise be empty space, Peter tells the family the story of "Star Wars".
Princess ... ...the 6 minute "Introduction to Family Guy" section was to introduce non-fans to the show. The fact that there is an option to watch this as an additional section to the "Blue Harvest" episode itself as well as separately as a DVD extra does seem to back this up slightly. Whilst it does give the uninitiated a run through of the characters, it's just a series of clips and doesn't really give a great feel of how the show itself works, which kind of ruins ...

...hadn't at least heard of Family Guy, never mind watched it. So I will skip a full introduction to the show and it's characters. I must admit it took me a while to take notice of Family Guy but once I watched one episode, I was hooked. Family Guy is a cartoon series based around the very dysfunctional Griffin family and uses a combination of abstract and outrageous humour, and makes considerable use of flash backs and cutaways from the main story ... ...that have been filed against Family Guy over the years!
Family Guy was first screened in 1999 and then subsequently cancelled by FOX Network in 2000 and again in 2002 and became the 1st cancelled show to be brought out of retirement based on the strength of the DVD sales (Futurama has apparently followed suit, hooray!). A warning for parents though, this may be a cartoon but as the seasons progress the language and violence gets increasingly worse, ...

Advantages: Great characters, writing, animation... Disadvantages: I suppose it could have been longer
As a big fan of Family Guy and a long standing geek, sorry, fan of Star Wars, it was a matter of time until I got my hands on the Family Guy spoof of Star Wars IV: A New Hope (that's the original one, often just referred to as Star Wars).
WHAT IS IT?
The writers of Family Guy found themselves making references to Star Wars in the scripts so often that the law team said they had to get permission from Lucasfilm. As it turns out, Lucasfilm were so ... ...minute (i.e. double episode length) Family Guy take on Star Wars, which is the opening to series 6. We also get a whole bunch of features, which I'll come to later. Trivia: Blue Harvest was the name used by Lucasfilm when filming Return of the Jedu on location in a forest, in order to avoid fans who would try to infiltrate the set if they knew what was really being filmed.
THE PLOT
Do I really need to outline the plot of Star Wars? Really? Seriously, ...

Advantages: Funny Disadvantages: Perhaps not so funny if you have not seen Star Wars
Family Guy is essentially a cartoon, currently airing on BBC3 and occassionally BBC2. It follows the eccentric life styles of the Griffin family. At its head is Peter Griffin, a rather idiotic buffoon with his long suffering but not without fault Lois. Chris and Meg are the children along with Stewie, a talking one year old with a British accent and a passion for world domination and killing his mother. Brian is the intelligent talking lush of a ... ...Star Wars.
The Griffin family are sitting around theTV when there is a blackout. In his own unique style, Peter decides to retell the Star Wars: A new Hope film, recasting the Griffin family in all the major roles. Stewie is perfect as Darth Vader.
For those fo you who don't know the Star Wars A new Hope story where have you been for the last thirty years? Here it is in brief.

Advantages: Like Family Guy - Read the review you'll love this episode. Disadvantages: Dont like Family Guy - Dont bother. Its full of classic Family Guy humour
If you like family guy your going to to love this DVD so read on... The DVD is a humourous remake of the classic Star Wars done in the familiar Family Guy fashion ive started to expect from this cartoon series. If your a fan of the Family Guy cartoons and watch regular then you wont be disappointed. If your new to the show or have only been watching the TV series for a short time then its more than worth watching if you have ever seen the Star Wars ... ...franchise. Rich in the Family Guy close to the knuckle humour. The show is full of quick one line jokes as well as some visual jokes. Strangely enough the show pretty much sticks to the storyline of Star Wars using some clever casting of Family Guy characters to portray some of the original films major storyline actors. Stewie Griffin as Darth Vader and young Chris Griffin as Luke Skywalker. Meg only makes a very brief appearance in the show. Most ...

...haven't been able to watch Family Guy the same way since South Park done a brilliant episode that actually summed up the show and made you realize the truth.
But this aside, this release is nothing more than an extended Family Guy episode shoved on a disc with a star wars marketing angle to sell it, at 45-minutes it's not even feature length despite what some comments made have made out.
But is the episode any good? Well it's mildly amusing but ... ...If you really like Family Guy then this will probably be a pleaser but honestly I could have just as easily gave it a miss.
- The DVD -
The full frame transfer on this disc is pretty good but then I'd imagine a lot of the animation comes from a digital source. The soundtrack also offers a little more punch than your usual television audio.
- Extras -
The audio commentary offers a little amusing insight into the making of the episode as various ...

Advantages: Very funny, well written Disadvantages: None
Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest is the Emmy nominated hour long premiere to the sixth season of Family Guy, premiering on September 23rd, 2007. This was the first ever 60 minute episode of Family Guy. The whole episode is a spoof on the first "Star Wars" film, with Family Guy characters taking up the famous roles of Luke, Chewbacca et al. The title is a reference to the code name for the production of "Return of the Jedi", which was called Blue ... ...plenty here not only for "Star Wars" fans but just for ordinary fans of Family Guy. That being said, there just wasn't enough Brian. And the _Dirty Dancing_ scene... probably a bit too excruciating, even for _Family Guy_. But I'm sure there are people would disagree with me on that one.

Family Guy is a series about a family called the Griffins, featuring a bumbling farther, a talking dog and a evil baby who wishes to take over the world and destroy his mother. Yes you must be thinking what?
But this animated comedy is absolutely amazingly rude, crude and funny.
Then enter Blue Harvest, Blue Harvest is a Family Guy spin off of Star Wars and boy it is probably one of the funniest things I have ever watched. The talking baby or Stewy ... ...trying to get revenge using his death star. The only problem I had with this was, there wasn't enough of it because it was so fantastic, gag after gag had me in stitches.
I recommend this to people who enjoy thing such as American Dad or South Park, I do think you should watch it first before you allow children to view as it can be a little close to the edge at times. ...

Advantages: A must for Star Wars and Family Guy fans. And everyone else Disadvantages: Probably could have been included on Season DVD
Anyone who has watched Family Guy for any period of time will be quite aware that creator Seth MacFarlane is a massive nerd. Advantages: funny and a loving homage Disadvantages: not as funny as the series
Being a lover of Family Guy, I was very much looking forward to buying Blue Harvest and, let's face it, being from the Star Wars generation, that Kind of appealed to me too. If you're a regular viewer of Family Guy, then you'll probably already be aware of McFarlane's love of Star Wars and this is a pretty loving homage to it.
It is very funny in places, but does suffer somewhat from being too much of a loving homage and the humour and surreality ... ...It's almost to close to the original Star Wars, with the obvious exception of all the roles being taken by Family Guy characters and all their particular personalities.
A reasonable addition to a Family Guy collection, but nothing like as strange, wonderful and very near the knuckle as the series. ...
