We’ve had the Face Off video for about 2 years or so (cheers Haylie) and I managed to watch it for the first time yesterday. Action films bore the life out of me and Face Off looked like it was the usual helicopter chasing, mucho explosions, no plot, shoot ‘em up. I finally succumbed to it all after 3 weeks of Nevil’s none stop Face off hand signals and his constant plot spoiling. It’s clearly worked because he hasn’t ... ...a fancy flourish for a good 12 hours now.
Face Off is directed by John Woo who, I gather, is an Action Director of the highest order, and Executive Producer is none other than chief lard arse himself: Michael Douglas (if, indeed, he is the man I’m thinking of). John Travolta (Who I went right off after hearing about his Scientology) is Sean Archer, a FBI agent, and Nick Cage (always synonymous with Elvis and snakeskin) plays Castor Troy the ...

...without a decent cast and Face/Off seems to work there as well. With a cast that includes Nicholas Cage and John Travolta there was little chance this wasn’t going to work. Of course Woo had worked with Travolta before on Broken Arrow and that partnership seems to have been rekindled. I’ve not come to expect any less from Travolta but it is another amazing performance. He really makes the characters his own and when playing both personalities really ... ...The same can be said of Cage. I’ve always thought that he was a good actor but this role shows just how diverse his acting ability actually is. The way both he and Travolta show each of the characters is almost scary as they adopt characteristics from both characters into their roles. Of course you wouldn’t really expect anything less from two of the best actors in Hollywood. The rest of the cast play a good supporting role, with very good performances ...

Nicholas Cage and John Travolta are paired up in this explosive action film, which has to be one of my favourite films of all time.
Castor Troy (Cage) attempts to murder FBI Agent Sean Archer, (Travolta) while he enjoys a carousel ride with his young son. Unfortunately the bullet passes through Archer's shoulder and hits his son, killing him outright. Archer is devastated and revenge is foremost on his mind.
A few years later Troy has planted a ... ...sustains injuries in a fight with Archer, which leaves him comatose. In order to locate the position of the bomb Archer agrees to undergo a futuristic and pioneering operation to swap faces with Troy. Undercover as Troy, Archer can effectively get inside information from his friends about the bomb, while pretending to be Troy. Unfortunately Troy wakes from his coma and realises he has no face. Threatening the doctors into transplanting Archer's face ...

This next review is another action film, one which I would consider to be a great film, not only because of the starts involved in the film, but rather the unique storyline of the film, it was something that had yet to be done, and in my opinion was just done brilliantly. I am reviewing the 1997 blockbuster hit "Face Off", directed by John Woo and starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. For me this film was just genius, because it took an unheard ... ...of that I consider these two actors to be brilliant and watching the film, showed how well these two characters seemed to work with one another. It was action, drama and excitement throughout and I don't think I can remember a moment were I was bored.
Director: John Woo has been a huge director for some time now; I must confess I hadn't actually heard of him until he made Broken Arrow in 1996, in which he also worked with Travolta. However since ...

Well, as many of you will know, I'm in the middle of writing my Disney series of ops. So what am I doing writing about a film that's about as far from Disney as you can get, I hear you ask. Well, I had thought about writing one about "Beauty and the Beast", then I started one on "Aladdin", but I just wasn't having any fun. So, for a change of pace I decided that I ought to write about an all action movie, full of explosions, two handed gun play and ... ...which directors use to show us that what we're watching is, in fact, a flashback. It's six years ago, and Sean Archer (John Travolta - Grease, Pulp Fiction) is with his son, riding an old fashioned merry-go-round. The camera zooms back, and we see Castor Troy (Nicolas "I want to play a superhero before I die" Cage - Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona) uncovering a rifle. He aims for Sean and then hesitates, not wanting to hit his son. He waits and ...

As the film came to an end, I thought to myself 'Hmm....miracles can happen'. I am referring to the performance of one of the stars of this film, namely, Nicolas Cage. The man is one of Hollywood's big names, yet I have failed to click to any of his acting roles in any of his recent films. Barring 'Raising Arizona' which I hilariously enjoyed, and 'Leaving Las Vegas' which I believe he won an Oscar for, yet I felt was too dark for me at the time ... ...pay to watch him at the cinema, though would happily watch his movies on TV. Yet with this picture, he had a half decent stab at trying to genuinely portray the character in question, or should I say, two characters, despite the perennial 'over the top' flash in infrequent patches, he still managed to bring across the right emotions involved at the right time.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the man. He's probably a nice guy to those ...

Advantages: Superb action movie. Good cast Disadvantages: None
It starts with a flash back a few years and Sean Archer (Travolta), a highly ranked FBI agent, is on a merry go round with his son when an assassination attempt is made on him. The bullet how ever doesn't kill Travolta although it does scar him but kills his son. The attempt was made by Caster Troy (Nicholas Cage) a villain who 6 years later Archer is still on the trail of. Troy has placed a bomb within the city but he has been traced to an airfield ... ...real name. Archer turns up with an FBI team just as Castor returns to the plane.
In the resulting gun battle Castor is badly injured and ends up in a coma, whilst his brother is arrested and questioned. All his brother will reveal about the bomb is that it will go off on the 18th. In possibly the stupidest suggestion ever in a movie the head of the FBI suggests that Archer take Castors face and go into the prison and get the information out of Pollux ...

Advantages: stylish, slick, original twist on a tired genre Disadvantages: hmm. annoying small child factor? Ludicrous plot?
...Welcome to Face/Off.
Face/Off probably can be considered a minor miracle. Like The Matrix, it redefines and refreshes a tired old genre by taking the conventions and playing with them in a way you've never seen: John Woo (director) has been doing two-handed gun battles for years in Japan, but it's a welcome change to see well executed, slick and original gunplay in such a high profile American movie; to whit: Woo is effectively reinventing the wheel, ... ...John Travolta and Nicholas Cage as Sean Archer (FBI good guy) and Castor Troy (evil maniac bad guy.) Bad guy kills good guy's son, good guy gets completely obsessed by bad guy, ludicrous plot conceit allows the two to switch faces (yes, you read that right,) and so all hell breaks loose. Cue millions of chases, mistaken identity, balletic violence, trademark two-handed gun battles, swearing, and my own personnal favourite actress in all the world, ...

Advantages: Super film - action packed til the last. Disadvantages: Under 18s should not view.
I have just watched this movie for the third time, and it's an epic. Starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage, the "good guy, bad guy" theme throughout the film is convincing, and what starts looking like any other shoot em up cop film actually turns into a very interesting twist of events, all improbable, although all only just beyond the realms of possibility with medical science advancing as it is, and altogether a roller coaster of emotions, ... ...good.
The film opens with a carousel and FBI agent Sean Archer (played by John Travolta), holding his son, his passion as a father showing in his face, and the ever present threat of violence from Nicholas Cage, poised with his gun, who aims at Archer, and by fluke kills the child. This isn't very much of a giveaway, since all this action is shown in the opening scene, though the story that follows has you in its grips because of the improbability, ...

Face off is your old cop and robber flick, but modernised and with a few huge twists thrown in.
Released on home video by Touchstone as it is a Touchstone/Paramount film it has been clasified as an 18...and for good reasons too! There is only limited reference to sex and nudity in the film, so the rating must have come from the Violence! (which is very frequent and in places very strong). There is also a hell of a lot of bad language in the film, ... ...it doesnt feel out of place.
It is normally unusual to come in to a film and have it near the end of the story, but that is how this one starts. FBI agent Sean Archer has been chasing the terrorist Castor Troy and his brother Pollox Troy for years and we enter the scene as he is just catching up with him. In the ensuing struggle / firefight between the FBI and the Troy brothers Castor becomes apparently killed (comatose) and his brother is captured. ...

This film has John Woo written all over it. The story is a about two men, one a FBI agent, Sean Archer (Travolta), the other a intellectual criminal, Castor Troy (Cage), and as a result of Troy's inadvertent murder of Archer's son, they are sworn arch enemies. I have watched this film numerous times and it still never seizez to amaze me. The plot of this fim is fantastic and extremely unique. contributing to the plot is the fantastic acting of Nicholas Cage and John Travolta which brings the film to life (must have been hard work for them playing two characters). The action will keep you on the edge of your seat none-stop. Absolutly everything is crammed into this film without making the plot seem hurried. ...

I did not know the meaning of the words 'Action film' until I saw this one. Excellent acting with an excellent script are what make a good film, and this one has both. It also has the best line I have ever heard in a movie (see title)! The film was original and the effects were brilliant, which make the film watchable for a wide audience. The creme de la creme of action films. If you haven't seen this film yet, take a trip to your local retailer ...
