The Story of Evita is a fascinating one and it is a role that it is said that Madonna had set her eyes upon for a long time. Rumours that a full length Film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End Musical was to be made had been circulating for years and apparently Madonna contacted Andrew Lloyd Webber on several occasions, slowly convincing him that she was the perfect person for the lead role.
The Film that was eventually to be ...

Advantages: Great music, great acting Disadvantages: Too superficial, characters not well developed
An adaptation of the stage musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice, this film features a host of stars, including Madonna as Eva Peron, Antonio Banderas, and Jimmy Nail. Many of the songs are well known including ‘Don’t cry for me Argentina’ and ‘Another suitcase in another hall’. The film follows the life of Eva Peron, wife of the Argentinean President Juan Peron, from her working-class childhood in a small town, ...

Advantages: Great songs, well performed Disadvantages: Repetitive, find out what happens at the beginning
Evita is, in my opinion, one of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's best musicals. It tells the true story of Eva Peron (nee Duarte), who was born into the working class, and grew up to be a famous actress and the first lady of Argentina - as one of the songs says, "the greatest social climber since Cinderella".
Like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, another Lloyd Webber musical, the film has a narrator. In Evita this is Che, played ...

Advantages: Madonna and just about everything else. Disadvantages: None
...greater or lesser degree. In Evita Madonna gets to play the part she feels she was born to play, that part being Evita Peron. This role enables Madonna to combine all her major assets and prove to all the critics that she was right, nobody else could have played this role in the movie. She even managed to win a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Peron. Normally this would have pointed to at least an Oscar nomination but then again Madonna is just not ...

Advantages: music is sensational Disadvantages: not entirely accurate to events, doesnt expand enough
Evita was on television a couple of weeks ago. I hadnt seen it for ages so I decided to record it. As it was shown on BBC1, it would be without commercial breaks!
The lead role of Maria Eva Duarte, to become, Eva Peron and Evita, was played by the singer Madonna. Quite a remarkable change from her usual deposits into the charts!! I was very shocked the first time i wtached the film, as to how good she actually was!
The film also includes Antonio ...

Advantages: An excellent adaptation of the stage show Disadvantages: None really
In Evita Alan Parker has created a true masterpiece. Evita is a musical which has been performed on stage for many yers. It follows the true story of Eva Peron, an Argintinain girl from a poor background who went on to become one of the most loved people in the countries history.
The musical was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and I had serious doubts over whether or not it could be adapted for the big screen. But Alan Parker has proven ...

Advantages: A good film Disadvantages: Not historically accurate
A touching, if not altogether historically accurate, account of the life of Argentina’s saintly matriarch, conveyed somewhat quirkily via the music of Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice.
Narrated by a strangely omnipresent Che (Antonio Banderas) the film tells the story of Eva Duarte, the illegitimate daughter of a middle-class Argentine rancher, and her determination to make something of her life, from her lowly, almost impoverished childhood in ...

Advantages: An all round excelent film, really stiring up the viewers emotions Disadvantages: Music from start to end may not be to everyones taste
Evita is one of the few films I had any desire to see more than once. Admidtedly not to everyones taste, the music which runs continuously throughout the whole film is superbly written and performed. More than the music, or even the excellent performance by Madonna and co., the best part about this film has to be the atmosphere.
Alan Parker has managed to perfectly capture the true spirit of Eva Perons life, and a real feel of Argentina early 20 ...

By using music constantly, Evita gives as an overpowering visceral sensation. The entire movie is a big climatic point. You don't have to wait through long lines of dialog to get to the strong musical build up. It is always there. The use of crowds, and further adds to the pageantry of the movie. It's not just a film. It's an event.
The story gives us a semi-accurate snapshot of the short life of Argentina's most famous first lady, Eva Peron (Madonna). ...

Advantages: entertaining Disadvantages: alters the truth
...however, recommend this film - Evita - to anyone who is looking for entertainment and is a fan of the work of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and other musicals such as "The Sound of Music" and "Fame". But do not view this film as art reflecting reality - if you want to find out and educate yourself in Argentina's history or perhaps only in the history of Evita herself then read a book. Alternatively there is an argentine film with subtitles which ...

Advantages: Great soundtrack, performances, Antonio Banderas. Disadvantages: Jimmy Nail! Why????
Being a big fan of Madonna as a singer rather than an actress and an even bigger fan of Antonio Banderas, I just had to see this film when it came out. I enjoyed it so much, I went back a further 4 times, bought it on video and bought the soundtrack.
Alan Parker took a chance casting Madonna in the lead role as let's face it she hasn't exactly stunned the acting world with her performances has she? but I doubt she'll ever portray someone as well ...

When Madonna acted as Evita in this movie, it is quite a controversial issue. People just can't relate Madonna to Evita, a well respected woman in Argentina.
However, after i have seen the movie. I find that Madonna has done an extremely good job. She has made her character alive again. Besides, I am sure her powerful voice has mesmerised every single audience who watched the movie.
I definitely recommend this movie to everyone. If ...

...it the movie version of Evita provided a surprise. Not only did she look uncannily like Eva Peron but she also sang beautifully and with feeling and acted her socks off. The movie was bound to be controversial as many purists feel it trivialises Argentinian history. However, it does capture the feeling of South America in the 30s-50s. From the stunning costumes (many copied from actual outfits that Eva Peron wore), to the soaring music, fine singing ...
