Advantages Advantages A modern day intrepretation of a timeless story.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Purists may object, but they shouldnt.

    > > Barrymore's Danielle is described by some critics as a "Cinderella for feminists." I will not submit to that for reasons of my own, but Drew gives a stunning performance, and even more so, because I respected her more and more as the film progresses, particularly when she becomes a tough heroine and thinking about others more than herself, which is one of the character's best qualities. She refuses to let her Stepmother and Marguerritte get the best of her and I think her most powerful moment is when she is sold to a slimy trader (Richard O'Brien) who wants to not only own her but use her ... more

Advantages Advantages Drew Barrymore, Magical, Deep, Intellegent, Funny

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Ummmm

Okay so at first sound, a new interpretation of that old classic Cinderella under whelms. It instantly congers up images of cheesy, girly fluff, with no depth and second rate actors, definitely style over substance. But I am very pleased to say that Ever After is one of the most charming, well acted, beautifully subtle and pleasant family movies that I have ever seen. With huge amounts of heart and of cause the ever brilliant and talented Drew Barrymore. We first see ageing women, speaking to those master story tellers the brother Grimm. A wonderful portrait hanging on the wall, she proceeds ... more

Advantages Advantages A beautifully accomplished movie

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None whatsoever

Usual I would run a mile before anyone can get me to watch a period movie. Period in the sense, that people dress up in period costumes and attempt to speak "olde English". I am constantly on the lookout for telltale signs of modern day technology in such films, such as a plane flying above, someone wearing a digital watch or even a ringing mobile phone ... you get my drift. But in recent days, I have became a fan of Pride & Prejudice, and so a little open-minded about such films and decided to view EverAfter on DVD. Synopsis The classic Cinderella story with a difference. The usual evil ... more

Advantages Advantages Great performances, fairytale like charm to the film

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

Yet another Drew Barrymore masterpiece. I have to say right at the start that the reason why, according to me, this film was such an acclaim was mostly due to Drew Barrymore's outstanding performance in Ever After. She is one actress who will never cease to amaze me. The film was enchanting, romantic and of an excellent quality. I loved absolutely everything about it; the acting, the plot and the fairytale-like aspect that cast a wonderful charm on the production from start to end. This is one movie that is granted to please any fans of romantic movies like me. Plot: This is the story of the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages It is a bit middle of the road

This is basically Cinderella set in Aristocratic France pre-Napoleon, the story revolves around Danielle (Drew Barrymore) a pretty young girl with tomboy tendancies. After the death of her father (Jeroen Krabbe) she is left in the care of her dastardly Step Mother. Rodmilla (Angelica Huston) who wants her to clean the home, and basically do all of the work that she and her own two daughters don’t want to do. The sisters aren’t ugly, but they are varied, there is vain step-sister, Marguerite (Megan Dodds) and Jacqueline (Melanie Lynskey), who isn’t actually nasty or ugly, she is actually keen ... more

Advantages Advantages heart warming, a film for everyone, and drew barrymore

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none its wonderful

****** Ever After ****** This is not my typical genre I would normally pick, but this film is so beautifully made, and well directed. It's a film for all the family, and especially little girls to watch. I first watched this movie a year or so back on Sky and would you know, I never moved once from the television. Ever After captured my heart and I was stunned on what a wonderful movie this actually is. It's romantic, a very nice fantasy drama, also makes you giggle and good acting. Plus I really like Cinderella I think it's a wonderful movie. Ever After came out in 1998 and I wish I knew ... more

This is a fairy story with a difference. The cast ******** Danielle (Cinderella) – Drew Barrymore Prince Henry (Prince Charming) – Dougray Scott Rodmilla (Wicked Step mother) – Angelica Huston Obviously there’s 2 evil sisters, except one is not quite so evil. A king keen for his son to marry. Surprisingly and rather amusingly, this film also includes Leonardo Da Vinci amongst it’s characters. The plot ******** Obviously, mostly based on Cinderella, but with a few twists. Set in sixteenth century France, we first see the heroine Danielle (Drew Barrymore) at age of eight awaiting the arrival of ... more
