The reason I went to see this movie was the title. I thought it was quite clever, incredibly pretentious, but clever. And once I caught the trailer and its spectacular weirdness, I was convinced that I absolutely-had-to-see-this-movie-and-noone-was-going-to-stop-me. Advantages: Brilliant performances from the entire cast, Carrey and Winslet in particular, original and inventive story, imaginative direction from Michel Gondry.
Disadvantages: If you've got a short attention span then you might find a few scenes too slow.

Eternal Sunshine. What a weird but wonderful movie. We have Charlie Kaufman (the writer of such wacky scripts such as “Being john Malkovich” and “Adaptation”) to thank for this original yet slightly crazy movie. ...of the unique scenes in Eternal Sunshine are produced using old style camera tricks; the reliance on digital technology is at a total minimum. There is also a strange running order to the film. The film begins with the second meeting of Joel and Clementine, moves through the first meeting, cuts to the end of their time together and then views everything through Joel's memories, before returning to the beginning again and in true Monty Python style ... Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are amongst my least favourite actors, but their latest film, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, had received such critical acclaim that I was prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt just to see whether the film merited the glowing reviews I had read on the subject. ...that the final act for Eternal Sunshine is blinding (I usually use more sophisticated words to describe things but I just can't be bothered today...). The script posses some questions about life and love and doesn't quite resovlve atbthe end. You see the light but you con't quite forget what it took to see that light. You initially think that the film will pan out the same way as any other movie of this ilk, but after the opening credits on chapter 5 you see that this is a relationship that has finished bitterly and has left its emotional wreckage, in Joel at least, by the wayside. ...touched me as much as Eternal Sunshine. I’m sure that more and more people will come to love this film as much as I have. In some ways I find it a little like Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation. That too touched my romantic side! However, there is a little more action in Eternal Sunshine for those who were a little dissatisfied with Lost in Translation for that very reason. Joel Barish is a dull and lonely individual whose existence is brightened up considerably when he meets and falls in love with the free-spirited Clementine. Unfortunately they soon fall out of love and Clementine undergoes a procedure to surgically remove Joel from her memory.
