Advantages: A truly accomplished film with performances to match Disadvantages: The merciless tension can get to you
Joe is a science lecturer who hypothesises that love is a biological imperative and not an emotional response. His beliefs and his cosy, middle class lifestyle are thrown into turmoil when, on the day he is going to propose to his girlfriend, he witnesses a freak ballooning accident in which a man dies. This brings him into contact with Jed, another would-be rescuer, who becomes fixated on Joe and stalks him, claiming that they should be together. ... ...fragile mental state is further threatened by the unwanted attentions of the obsessive Jed. But is this obsession real, or is it all in Joe’s head?
Having directed the fluffy “Notting Hill” a tense film with a foot in both the thriller and drama camps is the last thing you would expect Roger Michell to helm. But he has made an incredible job of it. The main feature of the film is a pervasive air of foreboding that exists even before the thrilling ...

Joe (Daniel Craig) is having a picnic with his girlfriend Claire (Samantha Morton) in the English countryside when a hot air balloon appears in the field behind them. There is a young boy trapped in the basket and his grandfather is trying unsuccessfully to help him. Three other bystanders see the balloon in trouble and run to help, grabbing the ropes to try and pull it back down onto the ground.
Joe runs to the boy's aid and soon the four would-be ... ...until they have to let go in fear of being taken to their death. One man - a doctor - holds on. His body is later found in a field.
Joe is wracked with guilt. He should have held on. They all should have. Everything he sees reminds him of the accident, even though his girlfriend tells him he did all he could to help.

Advantages: Excellent and thrilling film Disadvantages: None
I normally have this theory about the relationship between books and films. You can make a good film out of an indifferent novel but you rarely make a great movie from a great novel. Why is this? Well, when a novel is very good it is difficult to do other than make a faithful rendition of it on film. As a result this type of film tends to disappoint because the film tells you nothing new.
It was with some trepidation that I went to see “Enduring ... ...Ian McEwan’s masterpieces.
The film starts with a ballooning accident – yes an accident involving a balloon, not one which expands! Joe, a serious-looking lecturer in London played by Daniel Craig and his girlfriend Claire (Samantha Morton) are having a picnic in an idyllic rural setting when a hot-air balloon appears on the scene. There is a young boy on board and his grandfather, on the ground, is trying to stop it from flying off and failing. ...

The trailer for this film depicted a hard hitting stalking sort of thriller if you like. Blatent false advertising!!!!!
Daniel Craig plays the main character Joe, workng in a college in biology. His 'girlfriend' is played by Samantha Morton, Claire.
They have a picnic, and see a young lad in trouble, trapped in a moving hot air balloon with someone desperately trying to keep it to ground.
As the man is struggling, Craig and a few men who appear ... ...first it looks good, but a big gust of wind takes the balloon upwards, with the men.
Craig then lets go and drops before it gets too high, and the men all follow but one. One stays clinging to the rope, and the others watch until ultimately he falls and dies.
Checking to see he is dead, Craig goes to the field with his new 'friend' Rhys Ifans. He pushes Craig to pray at the dead mans landing place, and a brief tap on the shoulder sparks an infatuation.
