FANGS FOR THE MEMORIES!

Advantages: Plenty and varied Special Features.
Disadvantages: Not the best story in the world.

...of the new series of Doctor Who I am continuing to work my way through my collection of Classic Dr Who DVDs. This time I am zooming back in time to the Seventies, and the era of Tom Baker, for an atmospheric adventure called Horror of Fang Rock. Once again produced by the BBC, Horror of Fang Rock was released on DVD on 17th January 2005 and is a four part story, produced on one disc. This disc contains the main feature and a variety of Special Features. ...
...Rock is blamed, but the Doctor and Leela soon begin to discover that there is something more sinister happening. As the adventure unfolds, a small ship runs aground in the storm adding depth to the story through more characters to interact with. Our intrepid Time Travelers soon realise that nobody on the Island (and ultimately the Earth) is safe and there are dangerous aliens on the loose. The lighthouse, that should offer shelter from danger, is ...

Advantages: Interesting setting, and a great supporting cast.
Disadvantages: Predictable and long-winded suspense story.

The Fourth Doctor is accompanied by Leela, the attractive savage who invited herself aboard the TARDIS a number of episodes earlier and caught the attention of some viewers with her aggressive demeanour and tight leather outfits. Leela has evidently mellowed between series, still ...
...mostly content to accompany the Doctor to Brighton and don a more respectable woolly jumper, though her tribal instincts still seem to prevent her from wearing a bra (or did I imagine it?) The self-contained story is fairly formulaic as both a Doctor Who adventure and a murder mystery, with a sinister opening carried solely by the impressive guest cast as weird and inexplicable things start to happen on Fang Rock, before the Doctor comes onto the ...

Horror of Fang Rock

Advantages: Tom Baker as The Doctor, an atmospheric story
Disadvantages: None

...The plot has The Doctor and Leela appearing on an island of the English coast, known as Fang Rock, where the only people who live on the island are based in a lighthouse. One of these, Ben, dies mysteriously and this leads to the discovery of a Rutan, an alien race at war with another alien race, the Sontarans. One of my favourite aspects of this story is the sense of claustrophobia offered by the location - a lighthouse on an isolated island is ...
