...its age and dated looks Dirty Harry is probably one of the best cop movies to come out of Hollywood. ...comment? Perhaps neither. Eastwood arrives as Dirty Harry with a bang after the likes of the spaghetti westerns and 'Coogan's Bluff'. The San Francisco of the late 1960’s and early 70’s was known for its liberal attitudes and Eastwood’s character has often been seen as a counterblast to this. ...jail sentence...you do that to Dirty Harry, and you know he's going to take it personally. What stops this from being just another running-and-jumping cop thriller is the sheer brutality of some of the sequences. In one scene, Callahan tortures information out of Scorpio by stomping on a leg wound. In the following scene, the kidnapped girl's naked corpse is dragged out of a hole in the ground by police officers. Moments like this give the film ... Read review

I realise that this is meant to be a "Clint Eastwood" film, but whoever played the psycho who buried the girl deserves major recognition. I know a lot about "evil" laughs, and i have to say, he's got the most impressive one i've ever come across! it made me gigle even when he was being really scary. Anyway, the film itself. Flying in the face of late sixties and early seventies political correctness, the film could be seen as presenting crime-fighting from the cops' point of view. Apart from the lead characters and a scarily deranged turn from Scorpio, the villian of the film, the acting could be considered a little wooden.
