Advantages: Great film Disadvantages: sequals are not quite as good
...the first film of the Die Hard trilogy starring Bruce Willis was probably the most succesful of the three films. It was a simple plot with Bruce getting trapped in a building full of terrorists, who are holding captive many people for ransom, and among the kidnapees is Bruce's wife. Bruce decides that as he is a cop it is his duty to save the people and foil the terrorists. He roams about the building picking them off one buy one, and manages to get ...

Advantages: Excellent action movie, compelling throughout. Disadvantages: Must be seen in cinemascope for best effect.
Ah this is the Bruce we all know and cherish. OK recently he has proved like Harrison Ford, he is a decent enough dramatic actor, but like Ford, its as the action hero that he seems most at home. And this is one of the best of 'em. Like all the best actioners must be seen on a big wide screen, preferably the cinema and then the full impact hits you. Its exciting and compelling more or less from the word go and only the Indiana Jones movies have bettered ...

Die Hard is the first film in the trilogy, and like the next two is directed by John McTiernan, and stars Bruce Willis and Bonnie Bedelia as maverick New York cop, John McClane, and his estranged wife, Holly. The plot centres around McClanes decision to surprise his wife at her office Christmas party. However, as he waits to talk with her, a gang of German terrorists gatecrash the party and seize the building. Led by Hans Gruber (wonderfully portrayed ...

...the late 80s early 90s, Die Hard is perhaps the Mother of all of them. There is something strangely comforting about Bruce Willis' role as cop John McClane. We know the plot is quite ridiculous and yet Willis is so believable as the all action anti-hero that we go along with it all.
DH is superior to movies like Lethal Weapon, Terminator, Speed & Mission Impossible because of Willis' charisma & personal charm which is not generally found with actors ...

Die Hard is so memorable for it's originality. If you were unfortunate enough to see the second installment and not the first don't worry, this one is MUCH better. The sequel is a disappointment to say the least. Alan Rickman's role as the lead villain is one of the reasons I love this film so much. He's probably the best villain ever to grace our screens (at least in an action film anyway). Despite who he is, you just can't ...

...performance (a poster advertising the Die Hard video appeared in the last series of Moonlighting by the way). He wisecracks his way around the building, intermittently shooting the terrorists in the knees or blowing them up with some C4 attached to a computer screen and a chair (yippe kay yay). We permanently root for this man and, unlike some heroes, never find him annoying.
Alan Rickman has to be the best villain outside the James Bond series. ...

Made in the height of the 80's/90's action/adventure phase, Die Hard stands out from the crowd despite still having many of the usual cliche's. Could it be that we have a more well thought out story? Better defined characters? Who knows but what we end up with is the story of ordinary cop John ...

...from the get go that DIE HARD was going to be different.
Up to that time, our main "action heroes" were overly-buff and mono-syllabic. They never got hurt, never showed any emotion and just tore across the screen with the largest automatic weapon they could get their hands on. Willis may have been in shape, but I wouldn't call him a gem of the human physical form. He was playing a normal guy, a cop, visiting his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. ...

Man, this is one badass movie! I watch every time i get the chance. The one-liners are excellent, setting quite a few quotes into our vocab, the action is one of many things that keeps the movie going, the story really great, and good acting. I'm exceptionally glad it was changed from robbers to terrorists-I really hate movies about the latter. This and Lethal Weapon are the number 1 action movies now and forever, though I like this one better. It ...

...a little shallow to have Die Hard sitting amongst Kagemusha and Three Colours Blue, but it does, there!!
I went to see this film back in 1988 after being a huge Moonlighting fan, Bruce Willis could do no wrong for me, hell, I even liked Blind Date. When I came out of the theatre I instantly bought another ticket and went back in to watch again - I was THAT impressed.
The story follows Willis' John MacLane going to pick his wife up from her sky-scraper ...

Advantages: A great mix of action and comedy. Disadvantages: Frequent strong language may offend some people.
I can remember the first time I watched this film, I was very impressed to say the least and still feel that way now. Although it was made in the late eighties and some say a little dated, it still makes modern day action movies look a little lightweight.
The plot revolves around a group of terrorists (lead by Alan Rickman)who take over a multistory office in order to make a few pennies. One thing they didn't rely on was John Mclane (Bruce Willis), ...

Advantages: A witty, engaging main character, nice (if orthadox) special effects Disadvantages: Pan-european accents of generic 'baddies'
The Die Hard quadrilogy is a rare beast - a series built entirely naturally upon the success of its first installment. John McClane is a New York City Police Dept. Detective, and is the original gravelly detective. In this first installment Willis depicts a character that is enjoyable to watch, with a great potential to get suitably badass on the stereotypical European baddies - a group of well equipped German terrorists with tragically pan-European ...

In my opinion Die Hard is the one aginst which other action movies are rated. It is also the film that made Bruce Willis and ensured his transformation to the silver screen.
Willis is perfectly cast as John McClane a somewhat gung-ho New York City cop with a real attitude against the establishment. Faced with the prospect of spending Christmas alone, without his estranged wife and two children, McClane boards a plane bound for Los Angeles hoping ...
