One of the best action films of the 80s

Advantages: Excellent plot, Clever moves
Disadvantages: None

Die Hard is one of the best action films and definitely one of the top 80s movie. It made Bruce Willis' career and the Die Hard series spawned 4 more movies - culminating to Die Hard 4 release in 2007. --- the BASICS --- Die Hard is an action thriller film released in 1988. It starred Bruce Willis as John McClane - an eventual household fictional name. The film is directed by John McTiernan. The plot is actually based on the novel "Nothing Lasts ...
...THOUGHT --- (!!SPOILERS!!) The Die Hard series and many other action movies suffer from one thing - the main character is invincible. McClane took millions of bullets but is never killed - just mildly wounded (see Last Action Hero - an excellent spoof). Other than this Die Hard is anything but just another action movie. Its excellent plot, edge-of-the-seat action and clever moves leave its viewers guessing what will happen next. You always know McClane ...

Best die hard

Advantages: Great film
Disadvantages: sequals are not quite as good

...the first film of the Die Hard trilogy starring Bruce Willis was probably the most succesful of the three films. It was a simple plot with Bruce getting trapped in a building full of terrorists, who are holding captive many people for ransom, and among the kidnapees is Bruce's wife. Bruce decides that as he is a cop it is his duty to save the people and foil the terrorists. He roams about the building picking them off one buy one, and manages to ...
...situation only after Bruce hurls a body from about the 20th floor onto an unsuspecting coppers car bonnet. The police turn up in force but the terrorists are prepared! The film then continues with epic pace, an is full of fighting and tension as the plot twists and turns. I feel that this film is far superior to the two sequals which find Bruce in an airport as a terrorist gang take a plane, and a mad bomber whodecides to play with Johns life, and ...

Yippee Kahay naughty person

Advantages: Excellent action movie, compelling throughout.
Disadvantages: Must be seen in cinemascope for best effect.

Ah this is the Bruce we all know and cherish. OK recently he has proved like Harrison Ford, he is a decent enough dramatic actor, but like Ford, its as the action hero that he seems most at home. And this is one of the best of 'em. Like all the best actioners must be seen on a big wide screen, preferably the cinema and then the full impact hits you. Its exciting and compelling more or less from the word go and only the Indiana Jones movies have bettered ...

One of the best action films in the world...Ever!!!

Advantages: Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman on top form
Disadvantages: None

Die Hard is the first film in the trilogy, and like the next two is directed by John McTiernan, and stars Bruce Willis and Bonnie Bedelia as maverick New York cop, John McClane, and his estranged wife, Holly. The plot centres around McClanes decision to surprise his wife at her office Christmas party. However, as he waits to talk with her, a gang of German terrorists gatecrash the party and seize the building. Led by Hans Gruber (wonderfully portrayed ...
...yet menacing at the same time), the Germans want to get their hands on millions of dollars worth of share certificates in the Nakatomi Corporation, and must blow open the vaults in the basement. When McClane realises what is happening, he decides to take matters into his own hands, and naturally saves the day, although Alan Rickman as Hans does come to a rather sticky end... This is definitely one of the all time greatest action films, and I'd strongly ...

Die Hard is best of all

Advantages: good story,sfx,Alan Rickman
Disadvantages: Loud, brash, overly violent

...the late 80s early 90s, Die Hard is perhaps the Mother of all of them. There is something strangely comforting about Bruce Willis' role as cop John McClane. We know the plot is quite ridiculous and yet Willis is so believable as the all action anti-hero that we go along with it all. DH is superior to movies like Lethal Weapon, Terminator, Speed & Mission Impossible because of Willis' charisma & personal charm which is not generally found with actors ...
...is that even though there are a lot of special effects we don't get bombarded with hi-tech unrealistic gadgets & hardware. Everything in the film is played with a genuine style & substance that is such a key factor with any John McTiernan movie. McClaine has to rely on his own wits & spirit for human survival while his contemporaries (Arnie, Cruise etc) can fall back on all those gadgets to get them out of a fix. Ably supporting Willis is Alan Rickman, ...

Advantages: Brucieeee! :-D
Disadvantages: Some acting isnt wonderful...

...recently, possibly promoting the new Die Hard 4.0 film, and I was (forced!!) to watch it with my husband, I didn't want to...its not my kind of film, but when we watched it, I found it amazing!!! Yes some of the acting of the foreign men (Karl), isn't wonderful, but other than that, the film is amazing! The story line is gripping, the characters are played wonderfully by the actors, and theres the right amount of comic factors in there to make it ...
...The basic storyline is that of a police agent who goes to see his wife and kids who he lives apart from in new york for christmas, but when he is at the office block she works in, all hell breaks loose and a huge robbery takes place in the building, and the workers are taken hostage, but Jack McLean (Brucy!) is the hero and saves the day.....I don't want to give too much away so thats all I shall say on the matter!!! But I do recommend the film even ...

"The Greatest Action Movie Ever"

Advantages: Mixes non-stop action with comedy and unforgettable quotes, generally a kick ass film
Disadvantages: None for me personnaly, but maybe a little too much swearing for some views

...seeing it. Die Hard is so memorable for it's originality. If you were unfortunate enough to see the second installment and not the first don't worry, this one is MUCH better. The sequel is a disappointment to say the least. Alan Rickman's role as the lead villain is one of the reasons I love this film so much. He's probably the best villain ever to grace our screens (at least in an action film anyway). Despite who he is, you just can't help but ...
...sequels. If you've seen Die Hard and you're thinking about watching the sequels, as I said Die hard 2 isn't anything in comparison to the first. The third installment however is much better but doesn't live up to the first and unfortunately I haven't managed to see the forth film yet. Overall this is an excellent action movie that I would recommend everyone should watch… well at least everyone who doesn't mind some blood and a fair amount of swearing. ...

He wisecracks his way around the building, intermittently shooting the terrorists in the knees or blowing them up with some C4 attached to a computer screen and a chair (yippe kay yay). We permanently root for this man and, unlike some heroes, never find him annoying. Alan Rickman has to be the best villain outside the James Bond series. ...
...His ability to convey annoyance and malevolance whilst talking to a disembodied voice through a walkie talkie is pure class, obviously honed from his training on on the West End. My one quibble is his American accent when Gruber and McClane finally meet. I dont think the idea was to have Gruber sound like a German trying an American accent but it comes out as such. Rickman has done better American accents since, it is strange that he doesnt manage ...

...get around to watching the Die Hard films, somehow I'd avoided them, missed them, and generally thought I was better off for it. What I fool I've been... Made in the height of the 80's/90's action/adventure phase, Die Hard stands out from the crowd despite still having many of the usual cliche's. Could it be that we have a more well thought out story? Better defined characters? Who knows but what we end up with is the story of ordinary cop John ...
...throw up some excitement and Die Hard has it in spades, taking us on a twisting turning tale with action, intrigue, suspense, and enough twists and turns to send a snake dizzy. Willis is excellent as wise cracking McClane and is the perfect counter balance to the smooth ruthlessness of Alan Rickman's fabulous Hans Gruber (it's a close run thing as to who is better but I'd go for Mr R). The rest of the cast know that they have little more to do than ...

Advantages: A brillant film, good acting....

...from the get go that DIE HARD was going to be different. Up to that time, our main "action heroes" were overly-buff and mono-syllabic. They never got hurt, never showed any emotion and just tore across the screen with the largest automatic weapon they could get their hands on. Willis may have been in shape, but I wouldn't call him a gem of the human physical form. He was playing a normal guy, a cop, visiting his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. When ...

DIE HARD is a film I watch whenever I get the chance because it is one that always entertains, that actually has fully-fleshed out characters and a stand-off between two adversaries that can't be beat. Even if you don't normally like action movies this is still one to see. You won't be disappointed. Might be abit bloody in places for young kids, older kids are ok. ...

Die Hard

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Man, this is one badass movie! I watch every time i get the chance. The one-liners are excellent, setting quite a few quotes into our vocab, the action is one of many things that keeps the movie going, the story really great, and good acting. This and Lethal Weapon are the number 1 action movies now and forever, though I like this one better. It ...

THE definitive action movie

Advantages: High adrenaline action
Disadvantages: can't think of any

...a little shallow to have Die Hard sitting amongst Kagemusha and Three Colours Blue, but it does, there!! I went to see this film back in 1988 after being a huge Moonlighting fan, Bruce Willis could do no wrong for me, hell, I even liked Blind Date. When I came out of the theatre I instantly bought another ticket and went back in to watch again - I was THAT impressed. The story follows Willis' John MacLane going to pick his wife up from her sky-scraper ...
...highpoint however are the action pieces, handled with aplomb by director John McTiernan - truly breathtaking, and also genre setting, as we have Die Hard to thank for the way that action films went. I must now have seen this film a gazillion times and never bore of it!! ...

Die Hard-the first

Advantages: Seems to be the mother of action films
Disadvantages: None

Well, this is the first of the “Die Hard”- trilogy and came out in 1988. It is based on the novel Nothing Lasts Forever (1979) by American writer, Roderick Thorp. I know it’s quite embarrassing to admit I’ve just seen the whole series. But I think this is the best film of all of them and considering this is the most successful of the three films, it proves me right. The movie is quite simple as the producers did not have to prove anything back then. ...
...a lot of international terrorists, who are holding captive a group of people for ransom. They want to exchange the hostages for some terrorist operatives in a prison. But really this is about $640 million in bearer bonds hidden in the building. One of the victims is Bruce's estranged wife (Holly). As there is no way of getting the hostages out or help in, Bruce fights them. Quite good, considering there are 12 of them. As to expect there is a lot ...
