Ah this is the Bruce we all know and cherish. OK recently he has proved like Harrison Ford, he is a decent enough dramatic actor, but like Ford, its as the action hero that he seems most at home. ...the late 80s early 90s, Die Hard is perhaps the Mother of all of them. There is something strangely comforting about Bruce Willis' role as cop John McClane. We know the plot is quite ridiculous and yet Willis is so believable as the all action anti-hero that we go along with it all. DH is superior to movies like Lethal Weapon, Terminator, Speed & Mission Impossible because of Willis' charisma & personal charm which is not generally found with actors ...
...is that even though there are a lot of special effects we don't get bombarded with hi-tech unrealistic gadgets & hardware. Everything in the film is played with a genuine style & substance that is such a key factor with any John McTiernan movie. McClaine has to rely on his own wits & spirit for human survival while his contemporaries (Arnie, Cruise etc) can fall back on all those gadgets to get them out of a fix. ...recently, possibly promoting the new Die Hard 4.0 film, and I was (forced!!) to watch it with my husband, I didn't want to...its not my kind of film, but when we watched it, I found it amazing!!! Yes some of the acting of the foreign men (Karl), isn't wonderful, but other than that, the film is amazing! The story line is gripping, the characters are played wonderfully by the actors, and theres the right amount of comic factors in there to make it ...

...seeing it. Die Hard is so memorable for it's originality. If you were unfortunate enough to see the second installment and not the first don't worry, this one is MUCH better. The sequel is a disappointment to say the least. Alan Rickman's role as the lead villain is one of the reasons I love this film so much. ...sequels. If you've seen Die Hard and you're thinking about watching the sequels, as I said Die hard 2 isn't anything in comparison to the first. The third installment however is much better but doesn't live up to the first and unfortunately I haven't managed to see the forth film yet. ...performance (a poster advertising the Die Hard video appeared in the last series of Moonlighting by the way). He wisecracks his way around the building, intermittently shooting the terrorists in the knees or blowing them up with some C4 attached to a computer screen and a chair (yippe kay yay). We permanently root for this man and, unlike some heroes, never find him annoying. Alan Rickman has to be the best villain outside the James Bond series. ...
...His ability to convey annoyance and malevolance whilst talking to a disembodied voice through a walkie talkie is pure class, obviously honed from his training on on the West End. My one quibble is his American accent when Gruber and McClane finally meet. I dont think the idea was to have Gruber sound like a German trying an American accent but it comes out as such. Rickman has done better American accents since, it is strange that he doesnt manage ...

...get around to watching the Die Hard films, somehow I'd avoided them, missed them, and generally thought I was better off for it. What I fool I've been... Made in the height of the 80's/90's action/adventure phase, Die Hard stands out from the crowd despite still having many of the usual cliche's. Could it be that we have a more well thought out story? Better defined characters? Who knows but what we end up with is the story of ordinary cop John ...
...throw up some excitement and Die Hard has it in spades, taking us on a twisting turning tale with action, intrigue, suspense, and enough twists and turns to send a snake dizzy. Willis is excellent as wise cracking McClane and is the perfect counter balance to the smooth ruthlessness of Alan Rickman's fabulous Hans Gruber (it's a close run thing as to who is better but I'd go for Mr R). The rest of the cast know that they have little more to do than ...

...from the get go that DIE HARD was going to be different. Up to that time, our main "action heroes" were overly-buff and mono-syllabic. They never got hurt, never showed any emotion and just tore across the screen with the largest automatic weapon they could get their hands on. Man, this is one badass movie! I watch every time i get the chance. The one-liners are excellent, setting quite a few quotes into our vocab, the action is one of many things that keeps the movie going, the story really great, and good acting. I'm exceptionally glad it was changed from robbers to terrorists-I really hate movies about the latter. This and Lethal Weapon are the number 1 action movies now and forever, though I like this one better. It ...
...but they did add a few good moments. I really like the connection between John and Al over the radio, and hated to see the voice-only relationship cut off at the end. If you like non-stop action, this is the movie to watch. Although the plot isn't too original, it's as good as it needs to be. I give it 9/10. ...

...a little shallow to have Die Hard sitting amongst Kagemusha and Three Colours Blue, but it does, there!! I went to see this film back in 1988 after being a huge Moonlighting fan, Bruce Willis could do no wrong for me, hell, I even liked Blind Date. When I came out of the theatre I instantly bought another ticket and went back in to watch again - I was THAT impressed. The story follows Willis' John MacLane going to pick his wife up from her sky-scraper ...
...highpoint however are the action pieces, handled with aplomb by director John McTiernan - truly breathtaking, and also genre setting, as we have Die Hard to thank for the way that action films went. I must now have seen this film a gazillion times and never bore of it!! ...
