Advantages: Well-paced thriller Disadvantages: Some will find the twist a bit too obvious
Charles Schine is a married executive with a sick daughter. Although he is superficially content with his lot, temptation strikes in the form of Lucinda Harris, a beautiful fellow train-goer. One night they go out and end up in a hotel room, but just as they are about to consummate their passion, a criminal called LaRoche breaks into their room and rapes Lucinda while Charles is out cold from a blow to the head. Finding out that the two are having ... ...huge sums of money. Can Charles find a way out of this nightmare before his wife finds out what is going on? Clive Owen plays Charles Schine. Although not an actor I am terribly familiar with, I thought he was good as Charles. It is hard to feel much sympathy for a man who openly cheats on his wife, and Owen didn't overplay this, but he still didn't deserve what happened to him. Then towards the end of the film, his role suddenly changes and isn't ...

...demands twenty thousand dollars…..
Derailed had the potential to be a really good little thriller with a good story, some interesting twists and a few bits of good dialogue - but it settles for being a tiresome, bumbling and slow rehash of many other, better movies. The flat script renders all of the twist and turns redundant and by the ending you will be so bored by it all that you won't care what happens to any of the badly drawn characters and ... ...the successful beginning. Derailed would have been better as a short - with 60 minutes the crew could of made a quick, dark and intriguing film with a killer twist, but to make it a feature length the script has nowhere to go but to make all the characters ridiculously stupid. I don't just mean stupid, I mean stooooooopid. Everything that Charles does is idiotic every decision the worst he could possibly make and he seems to have no idea how to live ...

When bored advertising executive Charles finds himself without a train ticket, he is helped out by attractive stranger Lucinda. Both are looking for distraction from their unfulfilling marriages. But their hotel room liaison turns into a nightmare when the brutish LaRoche breaks in. Charles is beaten to a pulp and forced to look on as the intruder attacks Lucinda. But the terror continues as the attacker then launches a campaign of blackmail against ... ...in Mikael Hafstrom's direction to lift "Derailed" above the rank and file of thrillers. In fact it feels substandard. It uses the now over-familiar device of the circular narrative (starting at the end and working its way back from the beginning) to tell the story. It's trying to be a modern noir with the femme fatale, thug and man in the wrong place motifs. But the director doesn't spend enough time building up the characters and their relationships ...

Derailed is a thriller based on a book written by James Siegel of the same name. The film isn’t to be confused with Jean-Claude Van Damme’s film of the same name released in 2002. Derailed didn’t exactly do well at the box office, well, that’s a bit of an understatement. Derailed was mauled by over 80% of critics. The film is rated 15 and runs for approximately 106 minutes. As soon as I saw this film advertised I had high hopes for it. I’m a big fan of thrillers and this one had a brilliant cast which included one of my favourite actresses so I was looking forward to seeing it. One thing that did bother me a little was ...

Advantages: Good Storyline and Pace Disadvantages: Twist Was Never Fully Explained
This slick thriller was marketed as something of a watershed film for two of the stars. Clive Owen, the male lead Charles Schine, is a fast rising star in Hollywood and has had some prominent roles over the past few years (Sin City, Inside Man, King Arthur).
Jennifer Aniston was going through her divorce and her role playing a sexy, more adult role, is a departure from the Rachel Green mould which made her famous - almost like her new beginning ... ...in jail, the story then develops as a flashback as he writes out the truth in a notebook. Advantages: Good peformance from Clive Owen, not one of his best though Disadvantages: Very predictable, really slow start
Derailed stars Jennifer Aniston as Lucinda Harris and Clive Owen as Charles Schine. The story starts with Charles not being able to afford his fare while on the train and Lucinda paying this for him. This is how they meet and the story develops from there. I had heard and read mixed reviews about this film so decided to watch it for myself so this is my opinion on the film:
I found the beginning of the film very slow and I was watching the clock ... ...The two main characters meeting took a while to get going. After this the story speeded up slightly getting to the main point of what these characters meeting had to do with the film plot. The film moves along at a steady speed, never really being anything great but not terrible enough for me to turn it off half way through. I was intrigued to know the ending.
After the characters meet, they become friends and then more. Starting from chats on the ...

Advantages: Exciting twists and turns that will keep you in suspense! Disadvantages: None!
The first thing I thought when I watched this film was how good Jennifer Aniston was. It was so different from things she normally does (there's no comedy in this film whatsoever! And she's nothing like Rachel her character from Friends). The film also starred Clive Owen and Vincent Cassel who were both excellent. Clive Owen plays a bored married man (Charlie) who plans on having a one night stand with Lucinda (Aniston) in a run down hotel, however ... ...and rapes Lucinda whilst Charlie is lying helplessly on the floor. I won't go in to too much more detail as I don't want to give too much away!!
I would highly reccomend this film, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and has many twists and an ending that you will definitely not expect! This is definitely one of the best thrillers I've seen. ...
