...a bad case of nausea, Deep Rising is a blend of both science fiction and horror. It’s certainly not the finest example of this type of film, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually very entertaining. It is the maiden voyage of the Argonautica – a huge, multi-million dollar cruise liner that has been designed specifically to provide limitless entertainment and pleasure for the world’s richest people. As the ... Read review

Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by wampyrii

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

Deep rising is nothing more than a bit of fun - a sci-fi, horror cross over which has no pretensions of greatness but rather has a singular purpose to make its audience has a good time watching it. Set your brin in first gear, sit back and you will do just that - its great fun. A group of mercenaries are heading out to a luxury ocean liner on Finegann's(Treat Williams) boat. He has no clue that they actually intend to hijack the huge pleasure ship ... Read review

Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by Danbuckley5

Advantages: The DVD case
Disadvantages: The film Inside!

Comes a film with little to praise. This little known film is very bad. When a group of armed mercaneries intend to rob a cruise ship, they arrive on board a deserted ghost ship to find that things have gone horribly wrong. An ugly sea monster has taken over the ship, and the unlikly bunch of survivers and pirates must race to get themselves off the boat. Fast paced action big guns, poor acting, an un-original plot and lines like 'I've got a bad feeling ... Read review

Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by rvb13

Advantages: Famke, good special effects, great pacey movie
Disadvantages: none really

Starring the very delicious Famke Janssen (Xenia of Goldeneye fame) and Treat Williams (lots of films but never the lead), this is a fun-filled rollercoaster of a ride. There are also a number of even less famous people you have seen before although I do know Wes Studi (Last of the Mohicans - the one with the hatchet and the bad haircut) and the annoying one from The Mummy (quaintly enough, he is annoying in this one too). Serious and thought provoking ... Read review

Something is stirring
Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by cjkace

Advantages: Entertaining no brainer
Disadvantages: Poor plot, limited DVD featues, silly bits (read op)

I'd never heard of this movie until I came across the DVD on the shelf at Woolworths, which as I could get it for a tenner, I decided to give it a try. The film is a sort of sci-fi/horror movie which while suffering from a pretty poor plot, does what it's supposed to. Entertain. The action sequences coupled with some good special effects, allow the film to rise above the storyline, and most of the cast play it firmly in cheek. So what's it about? The ... Read review

Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by ciaomc

Advantages: Entertaining, Unreal
Disadvantages: A bit run of the mill and crap cast

...is about a film called Deep Rising, which was released in 1998. The film is an eclectic mix of light comedy, horror, death, gruesomeness and can portray emotion like that of a thriller movie. ***The Plot*** The film starts with Finnegan (Treat Williams), who is paid by a group of gun wielding men to take them to a set of co-ordinates in the South China Sea. Little does Finnegan know that he is taking the men to the newest, most luxurious Cruise ... Read review

Deep Rising review
Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by Walter_Kovacs

Advantages: Exciting, good cast
Disadvantages: May be too gory for some people

Deep Rising is an action/horror film directed by Stephen Sommers, who would later go on to direct "The Mummy" and "Van Helsing". It stars B-movie legend Treat Williams and Famke Janssen and Djimon Hounsou, who are both a lot more well known now. Finnegan (Williams) is the leader of a group of mercenaries who takes on some very dangerous clients. Their plan is to get on board the world's most expensive cruise ship and steal as much as they can. ... Read review

ALERT very poor plot ALERT
Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by Gonda

Advantages: Good special effects.
Disadvantages: Everything else.

Well, it certainly doesn't seem as though they did. The plot reminds me of some kids cartoon action movie. It really does, mostly due to the totally stupid and unbelievable escapes from the 'monster', and the "Oh look, a big monster's trying to kill us all, run away!" sort of plot. Well, lets start with the plot shall we.......I can't seem to think of anything to write about it apart from poor, stupid, unrealistic and very childish. Doesn't ... Read review

You will get a rise out of this
Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by poodu

Advantages: A pretty decent attempt at a monster movie
Disadvantages: Nothing exciting or fearful about it

Deep Rising...not quite a B movie, but didn't make it as an A movie. Our reluctant mercenary hero, Finnegan (Treat Williams), takes on the job of transporting a gang of gung-ho ex-military types to predesignated coordinates. Unbeknownst to Finnegan and his small crew of two the gang are going to raid the worlds most luxurious cruise ship to rob the vault. However, when they get to the ship, it is floundering and the passengers are all missing ... Read review

Funny movie
Review of Deep Rising (DVD) by president_gringo

Advantages: Funny, with action
Disadvantages: might seem a bit corny to some

The story basically is about a luxury crusier who sets of on its maiden voyage in the China Sea. The owner, who is on board the ship, got his figures wrong when he built the ship so decides to hire some people to come and rob the ship, and then sink it so he can claim in the insurance. The owner sabotages the ship so its stuck, and cannot send out any signals. But, before the hijackers get there the ship gets attacted by a sea monster (might sound ... Read review
