Advantages: Gripping Disadvantages: Corny at times, not much characterisation
...Harry Walton is sent to Dante's Peak, a small town in rural America, to investigate some abnormal activity in a nearby volcano. He becomes convinced that the volcano is about to erupt, but as the town has now become a desirable place to live, his views are not politically welcome and his boss asks him to back off. Despite this, the attraction between Harry and local mayoress, Rachel Wando, grows. Just as he is about to leave, more dangerous activity ... ...persuaded me to sit through Dante's Peak again. To be honest though, on second viewing, it seemed to have improved and although it is far from being a masterpiece, provided me with an entertaining couple of hours of viewing.
I like Pierce Brosnan. He always seems to play really corny roles, but he is good at what he does and I always know what to expect of him. As Harry 'Walton, he is confident in himself, but nevertheless allows a bit of his soft ...

Advantages: Good Effects, Plenty of Action Disadvantages: A little predictable
...in his short time in Dante's Peak he has started to fall for, and her 2 young children.
What fallows is a quite entertaining, although quite predicatable and cliched, where Walton firstly battles to save those closest to him whilst also looking out for the needs of the town as a whole. The latter means that they are almost the last to leave the towna and as a result then have to try to flee the rapid flowing and ever growing lava trail which provides ... ...about them.
The special effects are good especially considering the film is almost ten years old and despite the lack of twist and very little in the way of soundtrack in the plot the
film is a good watch none the less a. There is very little gore or death just old fashioned action (hence the '12' rating', imagine a modern and reworked film based on 'Towering Inferno').
As mentioned the film is now almost ten years old
