Advantages: good concept Disadvantages: poor, poor film spoiled by its sheer complexity.
...going on in it.So, when cube 2 : hypercube came out, I for one was quite exited. For those of you who do not know the original, a brief rundown of the plot would be that a group of eight people are put into a huge contraption, with the bizzarre aim of trying to get out alive. They were put in without consent, or prior knowledge. But, they were put in for a reason, as each one held a particular skill, or a piece of knowledge, that may help them escape. ... ...identical cube shaped rooms, and slowly go mad. Some rooms contain traps, some contain horrific scenes, and some are safe. Now that you know the plot for cube, you also know the plot for hypercube. It would seem that the film has been given a bigger budget, which they threw at the film to give it better effects, and slightly worse acting. Again, we see eight 'contestants' put in a huge contraption, with the aim of getting out alive at the expense ...

Advantages: Follows on from Cube superbly, good concept and story, some good characterisation Disadvantages: support acting not strong enough, spoiled atmosphere at parts
8 strangers wake up in cube shaped rooms, each one of them from different backgrounds, possessing different skills which are part of the solution to their predicament “solve the code and you escape, but only the first … that’s the rules”. Recognise this story? Very similar to the first movie at first glance, but wait, this time there’s an added aspect thrown in … Time itself.
The Hypercube of the title is a theoretical construct, a 4 dimensional ... ...the way for the second Cube sequel, Cube Zero, scheduled for release some time this year (although I really can’t see what else they can throw into the mix now that they have had both space and time in there). If you enjoy the B-Movies of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, then this one is for you (Even with the problems, I enjoyed it), but if you’re more of a mainstream movie type person, then it would probably be better to give it a miss. ...

Advantages: Interesting group psychology. Good special effects. Disadvantages: Strange sense of humour sometimes... Less exciting than The cube 1
...some people trapped in a cube and they have no idea about how they got there. Only this time they're trapped in a hypercube, which is much more complicated than an ordinary cube. There are lots of different rooms that look exactely the same and the people trapped in the hypercube do their best to figure out how to get out of there. Some rooms have traps, deadly ones, that the "prisoners" one by one are victims to. As time passes and they can't find ... ...get out of. Unlike The cube 1 the end is like an anticlimax.
I wouldn't recommend you to buy this film, unless you're a "fantasy-freak". There are some real good special effects and it's not a bit like reality, that's for sure. For example there's a room where time passes extremely fast. If you enter it you're practically dead in seconds. In spite of the defaults that I've found with this film, it's not bad. It's just that having The cube 1 to compare ...

Advantages: different from most films, good acting Disadvantages: confusing, too weird for some
After watching the first Cube film at a mates house and being highly amused by the 'honking' of the winner I though id buy the second one in the hope that it would give me a few more cheap laughs. It's a good film and even if you're not interested in the plot there's enough entertaining bits to keep you watching.
*The Trailer*
"The first one had rules" you'll be sick of hearing this phrase after watching this film, so not surprisingly it's all ... ...cheesy and doesn't really do Cube 2 justice. This is one of those films that you can't explain, you really have to watch it in order to appreciate it. Furthermore I think the trailer gives the film away too much, especially for those who have seen the first one and know what type of thing to expect. Personally I could tell straight away who the 'winner' was going to be and the trailer actually showed quick clips of characters dying so you could also ...

Advantages: Not as bad as they say it is Disadvantages: The worse cube movie
Cube was a classic movie. It is one of my favourites for three reasons. Firstly, it's original - a series of interconnected cubes which move around, genius. Secondly, it showed that a good movie can come from a very low budget. Thirdly, it was simple. The storyline for cube is so simple that you could explain it in one sentence (indeed on the box they do just that). So could a sequel live up to this work of genius?
Well it COULD have. But unfortunately ... ...leave me thinking "wow" like cube did.

The Story
---------------------------
Several people get trapped inside a cube and have to work out a way to get out. It turns out that this cube is in fact a hypercube. It's got 4 dimensions. It can alter time within it and cubes can move through each other. Starting to sound a bit rubbish yet?
To reveal much more about the story would be to reveal the whole of the plot. This ...

...to find themselves inside a cube shaped room with doors connected to other rooms on the floor, ceiling and each wall. They have no idea how they got there or why they are there, and no imediate solution as to the way out.
Now apart from the bad acting, the complete unoriginality and the recipee used to attempt to make this film seem clever and original ie: 'lets throw in some quantum mechanics so SCI FI geeks will clap and cheer and make our film ... ...been experimenting with tesseracts. A cube which exists in 5 dimensions, 4space and 1time. I don't remember if there was any reason for this in the film but I don't think there was, perhaps to travel between alternate realities so they can change time and dominate the world ecconomy. So just your normal corporation as every conspiracy theorist and x-files fan would have it. However someone has broken into their research centre and gathered evidence ...

Advantages: A greater conceptual film than the 1st CUBE Disadvantages: Less accessible perhaps as a movie than CUBE
After the outstanding concept of CUBE - Hypercube was always going to face a hugely high standard to be even better.
The premise is the same of the original - a second bunch of guys find themselves in a prison of cube rooms with doors leading to identical cube rooms some of which are trapped and have to escape - only this time the CUBE travels in 4 dimensions instead of 3. Confused - you will be. As a film it is not as well scripted as CUBE and ... ...just want a movie like CUBE then you will be slightly disappointed.
The potential conspiracy theory of the first film is replaced by an actual conspiracy theory which is OK - nothing new though.
It will leave asking questions throughout, but you will not be left with many at the end. What I find particularly impressive with this film over the original CUBE is that there are little signs and references throughout that are not really explored or ...
