Sassy wised-up modern reworkings of classics can work bigtime - witness Alicia Silverstone in Clueless, a film that made me think there might be something in Jane Austen's Emma. This film was originally recommended to me by a friend and I just had to see it. The film is based on the book by Choderlos de Lacios entitled "Les Laisons Dangereuses" On seeing the film originally on Sky television I was very impressed with it and immediatley went out and bought it. Based on Dangerous Liaisons, Cruel Intentions is one of my favourite films of ALL time. The plot is VERY complex but the acting is superb and the evilness of it all is fascinating and exciting. Sebastian (Ryan Philippe) and his stepsister Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar – Buffy!) are rich, spoilt and obnoxious. They are also a pair of slappers who have no respect for those around them. Cruel Intentions is a teen movie of sorts, but not a typical American Pie/Road Trip/etc one. Cruel Intentions, one of my best films of all time! I watched this just the other night and i still never get tired of it as the performances from all the actors are extremely powerful. If you’ve seen Dangerous Liaisons, well this is a camp reworking of that., set in the upper east side of New York.
