Advantages: Beautfiul pictures Disadvantages: Mandarin language
The recent Sony Pictures release captures the beauty, spirit, and extraordinary talents of the misterious China. The film itself weds martial arts with sense and sensibility. It is an epic love story and a thrilling action drama set against the breathtaking landscapes of ancient China, filmed entirely on location. Based on a five-volume Chinese novel by Wang Du Lu, the project was scripted by two people with funny names: Wang Hui Ling and Tsai Kuo ... ...and dazzling stunts masterminded by Yuen Wo-Ping, who worked on The Matrix. The actors include the two most popular Asian actors in the world, Chow Yun Fat (Anna and the King, The Replacement Killers) and Michelle Yeoh (Supercop, Tomorrow Never Dies). The film is good although a bit too long. The music is nothing special, the images are great and the story, although too romantic for me, acceptable. The only big problem is that the whole thing is ...

Advantages: didn't have any Disadvantages: stupid story, boring
A lot of people liked this film and got a bunch of awards - not that that counts for much these days - but I pretty much thought it sucked. The storyline was just stupid and convuluted, the actions scenes were equally pointless and unrealistic - I'm not big on action scenes unless the film is a) not taking itself too seriously or b) so well made that the action scenes grip you. People also talk a lot about special effects and stuff, but I tend to ... ...a film and so I'm not greatly impressed when it appears unless it is used with some subtlety or good timing, rather than just everywhere, the same applies to fighting/choreogrpahy So maybe you'll like it, if you like kind of poncey versions of jackie chan films, with even less plausible plots, but I was bored stiff! ...

Advantages: See what life might have been like during the Qing Dynasty Disadvantages: it left the viewer confused with unanswered questions
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon takes place during the Qing Dynasty and tells the story of woman and men warriers and a sword known as the Green Destiny. I was utterly confused when watching this movie and had a hard time grasping my head around the plot. This story line was very difficult to follow and was needed to be searched on the Internet to discover the plot. In my opinion, the movie didn't answer any questions that were set up in the beginning ... ...plot and the characters of the story were to confusing that it was distracting from the effects included. Personally, I beleive that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was a pointless movie in which there was no plot but just a series of random events that made transitions through the movie. ...

Advantages: Superb music good story Disadvantages: none
One of the best films I've ever seen.
Music superb, and just right for the film with very good insight into the many moods of the story.
The location most interesting, and is about traditional and cultural values. It is a different type of love story.
Fast pacing in some parts during the fighting, which is build around old style traditionand values. I coped with the subtitles very well, but not everyone holds that view.
I was not at all disappointed ...

Review:
People will hate me for writing this but I don't really care, I hated the movie. How can it be labelled as a great martial arts film when the "martial artists" hang from wires! its insulting to people that take it seriousily. I've trained in martial arts for 7 years and I can't fly!!!
Yes the backdrops and the scenery is amazing... but come on its not about chinas great country side. ...

Advantages: good film for the whole family Disadvantages: the ending was typical chinese
Can chinese people really fly?
of course not, but I watched the whole film without taking notice of this minor technicality. The scene in the trees was superb and the effects overall were very well done. The scenery was breathtaking.
The atmosphere of the film was tremendous, often hillarious and although nothing like water margin and monkey, I could not help feeling this tinge of nostalgia during the fight scenes. If you are in the mood for a ...

Advantages: great action scenes Disadvantages: death
why oh why does the nice guy have to die at the end of these films i love all these films, this one has a rugged story line but the layout and casting are brilliant, music is heart felt actresses are so right for this film, older warrior trying to steer the young rogue into the right direction, also at the same time trying to keep her emotions for lee mu bai at bay. So a forbidden love is kept still by tradition. Yet another love is cursed, the thief ...

This film has received so many great reviews recently but when I went to see it I felt it was slightly overrated. The storyline was difficult to follow in places; this was partly due to the subtitles and the bizarrely irrelevant dream sequence.
Another thing which wasn't good was the ridiculous way the characters were able to jump massive distance (Matrix Style). However, the martial arts scenes on the ground were brilliant especially the one in ... ...unwilling to read the subtitles you won't like this film but if you do read them and can manage with the storyline you'll love it. The martial arts make this film so great and that is why it has been nominated for loads of awards.
Brief outline of the plot: A troubled Warrior (Chow Yun Fat) is tired of his murderous ways so gives his fabulous 400 year old sword to a nobleman called Sir Te. The sword is then stolen by a wannabe female warrior. Chow ...

... ...Taiwan and other points East. But the very English packaging and label design suggests that this Columbia Pictures release will look almost identical when it gains Region 1 release. The transfer is very fine – a sharp widescreen anamorphic transfer, and with the two main languages (Mandarin and English) given Dolby 5.1 tracks, with Surround Sound for Cantonese and Thai. The film was shot in Mandarin, and it’s best viewed with that; the ...
