Chinese Magic Review ofCrouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (DVD)by

Advantages: Just shere enjoyment Disadvantages: Chinese Dialogue
This action movie was as exciting as any I have seen - the special effects are stunning especially the chase across the rooftops. The scenery and general cinematography is stunning. But does everyone know that it's in Chinese with sub-titles? - make sure you go to a cinema where you can see all of the screen. Also there is a lot of symbalism and background history that might not be apparent if you are a westener. I went with a Chinese national and ...

Advantages: new kung fu ideas Disadvantages: the rest
...most of my friends detest Crouching Tiger because of it!
But thats not all about Crouching Tiger - usually martial arts movies are to the point whereas Crouching Tiger is a bit waffly when it comes to the plot - it has a sort of arty end to it where Zhang Ziyi, after going through so much crazy mood swings flies off somewhere?!?! In martial arts films the art should come from the moves only, art in the plot turns a bit crazy. And I don't think ...

Advantages: wonderful fight scenes, breathtaking special effects Disadvantages: little dialogue, not much plot
I went to see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon a couple of months ago and it was excellent. I usually try to avoid subtitled films, but this was magnificent, with vast, impressive set-pieces, state of the art special effects (the kung-fu scenes were choreographed by the same man who does kung-fu scenes for the matrix!), and a surprisingly intricate plotline. The only thing I would say makes it a little confusing is it is difficult to tell the characters ...

Advantages: Fabulous music, fight choreography and cinematography. Disadvantages: Subtitles unreadable on widescreen TVs
Ang Lee's movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a worldwide hit last year. Combining an epic love story, amazingly choreographed fight scenes, stunning photography and wonderful music, the film was one of the few subtitled movies to break $100million at the US box office.
Released on DVD in the UK on June 18th, I was eager to rewatch this film, learn more about the processes that went into making it, and enjoy it on my widescreen TV in crisp ...

Advantages: good film that was original in its genre Disadvantages: definitely not for everyone; pales in comparison to the book
...It seemed unable to decide.
Ostensibly Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is an intricate story with a human side and mythology wrapped up into glorious, if few, fight scenes. The humour manages to aviod the shallow slapstick prevalent in the genre, and in the end the hard to swallow invulnerability of some of the characters is revealed to be more realistic than in any martial arts film I'm ever seen. And yet the most memorable thing from the movie ...

Advantages: Great fight scenes, the stars were great. Disadvantages: none I can think of.
I truly like martial arts films that tell a wonderful story. This film can be considered a classic. Director Ang Lee creates excellent heart- stopping scenes and the actors put tremendous effort into this film. Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh are great as the Giang warriors Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien, but it is Zhang Ziyi as Jen Yu who shows poise as a woman determined to become a Giang Hu warrior and reunite with her lover, the mysterious Dark Cloud, ...

Advantages: Fantastic film for all the family Disadvantages: Subtitles, but are easy to keep up with
Ang lee's finest piece of cinema is now avalable on DVD. This was the winner of numerous academy awards and Oscars for best forgien film. In it's first week of release it grossed millions of dollars across the world. The plot of the film is very well structured with a very easy to follow and pick up half way through story. The charaters are very beleivable in the time that the film is set. The graphics, action sequences are excellent with a good lot ...

...floors with their knees, but Crouching Tiger just expects us to believe that these simple Chinese noblemen from the 16th century or so can fly and perform biblical-like miracles!
There are some good points about the film such as the very good acting and a sort-of-interesting plot.
Before I went to the film I did not think that it being a subtitled film would be much of a problem. However, when I got to my seat and it transpired I was sitting ...

Advantages: Over the top fight scenes - Awesome! Disadvantages: Storyline could be better
If you do not like subtitled films then don't watch this one because it is subtitled from beginning to end. The fight scenes are awesome and almost groundbreaking for martial arts films. I was reminded of scenes from Blade and movies like that. Super fast and unbelievable martial arts and effects make this a real winner. The storyline is not that good mind you and revolves around a powerful sword. As long as you are really only watching this movie ...

Advantages: Its amazing Disadvantages: Although you get used to it, the subtitles are annoying
Amazing, that’s the first thing I have to say about this film, it is AMAZING!!!!, when I went to see this at the watershed down by the Bristol docks, I was amazed. Although at first I found it hard to read the subtitles and watch what was going on, it eventually got easier and you did It without even realising it.
This film is based around a Chinese warrior who gives his sword to an emperor but then it gets stolen and a whole marshal arts ...

Advantages: Martial arts beauty without blood, Acting Disadvantages: If you don't like Non English Language films, be aware that this one is subtitled. A dull mid section of the film
I saw Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and after writing a review about a completely different film by mistake in this place, I thought I'd better correct my mistake.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is a beautiful film set in ancient China. I get the impression that this film could be about a legend, because there are a lot of moments in the film clearly using wires. This is very well done however, and if you keep an open mind, you'll realise that ...

...best movies of the year, crouching Tiger, hidden dragon is a visually amazing breakthrough. A great movie, with everything to please even the pickiest of viewers. Amazing graphics! If there was any movie you would take off work to see, this is the one. I guarantee that you won't even want to go to the bathroom during this! The only small drawback is the subtitles, but the movie is so good, it's worth it..I give it an A+! See the movie. If you don't, ...

Advantages: Something for almost everyone Disadvantages: Some may find it hard to suspend disbelief
An outstanding film which more than deserves its accolades.
With a gripping plot, stunning visuals, amazing special effects, moving performances and genuinely touching romance, it truly is a movie not to be missed and one may even go so far as to consider it a milestone of its genre.
Even though you may find the whole thing a bit confusing at first, stick with it and soon all becomes clear. A complex but engaging plot develops, incorporating many ...
