Advantages: Good acting, characterisation Disadvantages: not that original
This is not a particularly original or groundbreaking film, the plot is fairly simple, and there are no particular suprises, what lifts it out of mediocrity however is the quality of the characterisation and acting. Not really a suprise I suppose when you look at the quality of the cast. Slyvester Stallone proves that he can act (so keen was he to do the film he gained 40 pounds, and only got basic union rates) He is the central character of the ... ...over a corrupt small town of mainly NYPD cops, just over the river from, and out of the reach of officialdom fron New York. Ray (the always excellent Harvey Kietel) the leader of the corrupt cops, has been taking mob backhanders, and has resorted to the murder of fellow cops to keep his empire intact. When Moe Tilden (Deniro) an internal affairs investigator comes sniffing around. It is clear that loyalities and friendships will be pushed to the ...

Advantages: Great cast, brilliant performances, gripping plot Disadvantages: Not enough action?
I just had to write a review of this film because I felt the other ones I read do not do it justice.
The story goes like this: Sylvester Stallone is a wannabe cop, Freddy, who has instead been given the job of sheriff in the town of Garrison near New York, a "safe haven" for disillusioned NYPD officers, situated across the river from the city itself. The town's population is made up entirely of officers and their families. Freddy himself was kept ... ...as a result of saving a girl from drowning while a teenager. To add insult to injury, the girl, who Freddy is in love with, ends up marrying an NYPD officer. Ouch.
Ray (Harvey Keitel), the corrupt cop behind the setting up of Garrison, employs Freddy as he sees him as incapable of anything more than turning a blind eye to the shady shenanigans behind the scenes, the latest of which involves the staged death of another officer. However, when an internal ...

Advantages: good to see Stallone in a different guise Disadvantages: none really, a good story
It was an interesting change to see Mr stallone in a different guise. what's so different about him being in a uniform you ask?
In this he plays an overweight, slightly deaf, bumbling smalltown law enforcement officer. He is basically being taken for a ride by New York cops who use his small town as a hideout from NYC.
They are all corrupt and he is expected to turn a blind eye to it all going on. Although I think harvey Keitel is in perhaps too ... ...is of course one of the corrupt policemen and as with the others is initially benevolent if condescending to Stallone's character.
Eventually Stallone ends up taking these guys on when the effects of the corruption become too much (murder etc.) At first they deafen him completely by firing a shot at point blank next to his good ear. This leads to an interesting climax. when the final (inevitable) shoootout takes place he has to use his other senses ...

This is a great movie about a bunch of corrupt cops who work for the city of New York, but live in a small town across the river where they do their business. They hand-picked the sheriff an overweight half-deaf man, played by Sylvester Stallone, who desperately wants to become one of them, but because of his hearing he can't. Robert DeNiro plays an internal affairs officer who decides to investigate the cops and try to get help from Stallone. Now ... ...life and expose them, or to stay silent about his heroes, and maybe get a job as one of them. This is a very well written movie, Ray Liotta is excellent as a Scuzzy, corrupt cop who is having second thoughts about his life. Harvey Keitel does a good job playing the leader of the corrupt cops. DeNiro's role is small, but he plays it well. Michael Rapapport and Robert Patrick offer strong support as fellow cops. ...

Sylvester Stallone is in superb form playing the role of the local sheriff in "Copland." Cop Land is an area across the bridge from New York, where a large proportion of the local residents are New York cops. Stallone's character has always wanted to be a New York Cop but couldn't get in due to a damaged ear which he got as a young boy saving a girl from drowning. So he has had to settle for being the local sheriff where the cops living there are ... ...type of movie that would probably appeal only to certain people it's a slow paced thriller, but very enjoyable. It also features a star studded cast including Harvey Keitel, Robert Deniro, Ray Liotta as well as many others. Stallone did such a great job he proves that he is more than just an action star. It's hard to say much more without giving the plot away, so just rent it and have a great few hours in front of the box. ...

A cop is in charge of a town where the corrupt members of the NYPD live. He is pushed the breaking point and tries to save his town from the corruption.
Well let me tell you what, I never saw so many overweight actors in my life. Not only did Stallone gain 40 pounds for the part but I think everyone else did also. This movie was just OK. I did not like Stallone's character because he played some wimp. This is not the action hero I grew up with. ...

Advantages: none Disadvantages: pleanty ,too many to name
This has to be one of the worst films i have ever seen in my entire life. It was just so boring, no story line at all, I had no idea what was happening from beggining to end and to watch it from the start to the finish takes a hell of a lot of patients, i can tell you. It is just all about this good cop bad cop crap, except for the fact that the bad cop becomes good and the good cop becomes bad and everyone kills each other for no reason at all, ...

Advantages: Brilliant casting, brilliant acting, crime movie Disadvantages: Not mind blowing or particularly original
The title of Copland does give you some indication as to what the movie's about. It's about cop's in a sub urban area of america. Though the story is about deception (not to be spoken about here due to spoilers), the cast fit their roles perfectly in a believeable manner.
Sylverster stallone plays the lead role, of a half deaf cop, lusting for a friends wife, while not telling her. Although not a sly fan myself, his performance is immaculate in ... ...2, Taxi driver, Meet the parents, Goodfellas), Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, No escape, Grand theft auto vice city, Narc) and Harvey Keitel (From Dusk til darm, Thelma and louise, Reservior Dogs). You know you have a combination of actors who can out do most.
Although it is let down not only by the story but also the lack of extra's on the disk as well almost none exsistant special effects, it is well worth a watch. ...

At last Stallone is given a part that tests his acting ability and he excels as the reluctant hero Sheriff(shades of Gary Cooper)of New York suburb populated by corrupt cops.It is a taut thriller with great narrative tension. The acting from all the cast is superb and what a cast.De Niro actually has little to do as the hard bitten internal affairs officer on the trail of corrupt Cop Harvey Keitel who is grimly menacing throughout. Ray Liotta plays ...
