Let's cut to the chase. Commando is not a high brow movie by any stretch of the imagination. Schwarzenegger only shines during the action sequences when he's mowing down legions of punks and scumbags. The main villain, Bennett, is the campest hard man villain I've ever seen in an action movie (the leather trousers and Village People 'tache don't help), but like a lot of Schwarzenegger's films from the 80s, that's part of the enjoyment.

...was Red Sonja to make Commando in the same year, 1985. This time, the actor has a bit more of a speaking part, and we actually find out the big man can speak the language, quite well in fact, even enough to add a little humour into the proceedings. Commando was the first of Arnie's roles to combine a bit of humour with all out action, and was to become a trademark of many of his films.
The Plot

...demise of the heroes enemies. Commando needs a plot like a firecracker needs to be silent to work but I'll explain it nonetheless.
John Matrix ( Schwarzenegger ) a retired super soldier, who's seemingly put his days of mass slaughter for his countries freedom behind him, lives in peace with his young daughter Jenny. Unfortuntely a patriots job is never done when scum lurks at every corner. A bunch of villians capture the one thing keeping him from ...

It was, of course, Commando - the film me & Knolly had been waiting for for weeks on end. It was in too, the little red 'film on loan' tag that was usually slotted onto your movie of choice was nowhere to be seen - this was it, we were finally gonna see Commando. And what a wonderful, adolescence-defining 90 minutes it turned out to be. What joy, what entertainment - an instant classic, surely?
To those two 12yr old shit-kickers from ...

...role of an unstoppable, fearless, commando as if it was made for him, dutifully wiping out all that comes before him in a manner of amusing ways. The concluding scenes, in particular, show an unscathed Arnold taking out an entire army of military equipped, war hardened, villains like a tidal wave overwhelming a helpless fishing boat.
However, what really sets this film apart from the rest of Arnie’s early action adventures, is the relentless, ...

Quick review of Commando (Wide Screen) Review ofCommando DVDby

This film is just a pleasure because it is stereotypical Arnie, nothing can touch him, he looks fantastic(I think he's in the guinness book of records for having the most perfectly formed body ever), and the scene when he just wrenches the phone boothe out of the floor with the guy in it is priceless.
It was never meant to be the best acted film in the world or the funniest but for pure testosterone fueled fun with classic Arnie you can't beat it....add that to the caribbean style music and 80s tinge and you might understand why I gave it 5 stars.
Advantages: Classic Arney and great action and humour. Disadvantages: Rubish plot
...Matrix is a retired army commando that just wants to live his life in peace with his daughter which is the only thing cares about, this all changes when he forced back into action when his daughter(Jenny- Alyssa Milano) is kidnapped. He has eleven hours to find out were his daughter is and save her with a little help from a new friend(Cindy- Rae Dawn Chong) he meets on the way. With this the full on non stop destruction and action begins this film ...

We are even led to believe that Bennet is killed so that an old friend of Matrix', General Kirby, will attempt to contact him and reveal his location. Arius is succesful and kidnaps Matrix' daughter Jenny in a ploy to force Matrix to do his bidding and kill President Velasquez, the new President of Val Verde. ...brain dead action film but Commando really does work and is very enjoyble.
The only disadvantage part in Commando is there was never a follow up "Commando 2" maybe The Terminator saga was more popular. Commando was released back in 1985 and in my opinon has yet to be beaten for shoot em up action (don't think it will) The acting is quite good given the fact that its not Arnold's Strongest point. I rate this film 9/10 Arnie at his very best and on ...

Advantages: Packed full of classic 'Arnie-isms' Disadvantages: Horrendously camp villain
Commando is one for the die hard Arnie fan. Few others will truly appreciate the the gloriously cheesey, tongue in cheek, unashamed violence that characterised the Governators early career. Thats not to undersell Commando- it is without doubt a classic film.
The plot is simplistic- Arnie is a retired special forces colonel who is blackmailed into taking out a small country's president by a political rival in exchange for his daughters life. Naturally ...

Personally this is my favourite Schwarzenegger film there is. Sure it doesn't have the production values or budget of later films like Terminator 2, but to be honest it does better with out them. Don't go watching this film expecting it to be sensible or believable, because it really isn't. What this film is, is concentrated, canned entertainment. It has, probably the best one liners ever and in abundance. Only Arnie could pull them off and it's the ...

I've been a big fan of the big man for many years, and i have to admit that Comando was always one of my favourites. With Arnold never about to win any acting awards ir's pretty easy to overlook the wonderfully entertaining performances from the "bad guys" in thisd film. You have to have a certain something to be able to pull off lines like "You promised you were going to kill me last" or "im not gonna shoot you between the eyes John, im gonna shoot ...

Commando, the 1985 action film starring the muscular power of action start Arnold Schwarzenegger. This film was made right after Terminator and is a great action film for one of his first, later leads him to nailing the role in Predator.
I First watched this film about 6 or 7 years ago and at the time i thought it was one of the best action films ever made, mainly because i loved the violence and the fact that one guy, one big huge guy, took on ...

Advantages: brilliant action movie Disadvantages: is a bit old
It all starts out when some of Arnold's old military buddies get gunned down and his daughter (Alyssa Milano ) then gets kidnapped. The bad guys do this in order to try to force Arnold to assassinate a South American president. Of course, Arnold isn't going to play by their rules and makes his escape from the flight he was supposed to take.
He journeys from the airport (where he also winds up taking lovely Rae Dawn Chong as a sidekick) to a mall ...

...then why not.
To sum up Commando is a film with plenty of action, plenty of one liners and enough replayability to stop you feeling like you made a bad decision purchasing it. Also the comedy appeal of this film is a great release from the world of modern film where comedy's end up being too sentimental and action films are political. If you love Arnie and own £5 buy it and buy it now. ...
