...of my neighbours a favor, Chicken Run.
The front cover boasts that the film is made by the same team that made the Wallace and Gromit features.
Can’t be that bad then, as I adore that broad Yorkshire man and his play dough canine friend. There is always one of the three 20 minute Wallace and Gromit films on TV over the Christmas holidays, in fact seeing them at Christmas has almost become as mandatory Yuletide viewing as the Indiana Jones ... ...my Chicken Run opinion.
PLOT:
Chicken Run is about the escapades from a group of (you guessed it, Chickens) on a sinister egg farm in the Yorkshire Dales. The flightless birds led by a rambunctious hen named Ginger, constantly try to escape the fenced off compound, to a place just over the horizon where they can live in total freedom.
The farm is owned by Mr and Mrs Tweedy and is run like a strict prisoner of war camp, mean snarling dogs and all.

Advantages: Great story, great cast. Disadvantages: It had to end..didn't want it to
Chicken Run was released on video and DVD in 2000 and is a feature length animation from Aardman studios: The Nick Park led outfit that bought us Wallace and Gromit and Creature Comforts. It is described officially as a "claymation" film, rather than "Animation", because the characters are made of clay rather than drawn.
I was a bit dubious at first because, although Wallace and Gromit has become a classic, could Nick Park sustain this throughout ... ...My worries were unfounded - Chicken Run is Chicken fun! After about ten minutes I had forgotten that the characters were animated (sorry - CLAYMATED") and I could have sworn that they were real. The attention to detail on the sets is stunning and the characters have a depth of personality that makes them come alive.
The DVD is also excellent and has some great extra features. For those of you who like to know these details, here are the technical ...

Gingers prayers are answered when Rocky literally drops in along with a poster showing Rocky ... ...answered and begins hatching a new plan for escape, which is now more urgent as the Tweedy’s have now got a pie making machine. That’s all I am going to say, as I don’t want to give too much away if you haven’t watched it. Try explaining that to a 4 year old!
The escape scenes in this film are very reminniscant of such films as The Great Escape and other world war II films, even the chickens end up in 'The cooler'!
Well as thier attempts to escape keep being thwarted by the farmer and his dogs all looks pretty bleak, until the unannounced arrival of ROCKY the rooster.
He appears ... ...from the top of the chicken coops.
The Farmer and his 'evil ' wife no longer make enough money from the eggs, so the next plan is to start making chicken pies.
Once the pie machine turns up the need for the chickens to escape becomes more frantic, but Rocky does a bunk and sets off around the countryside on a 3 wheel tricycle...until.....he passes a sign advertising chicken pies, gets a guilt complex and goes back to the farm, just in time to rescue ...

Chicken Run is based on chickens living in a chicken farm, wanting to escape. They live in fear of their lives everyday, producing as many eggs as they can so that they will not end up on the owner’s table. It has all become to much for them as they know that every time they are called for a line up that there is a greater chance it will be them that is going to be dining with the Tweenies. Before you start to wonder, no it is not Fizz, Bella, Milo ... ...creating some plan with another chicken that is an engineerer. However the story is not all about escape for her as feelings for Rocky start to develop. She is left feeling very hurt and lonely when he explains that he can’t really fly. They didn’t like each other when they first met but the feelings grew between them.

...film about life on a chicken farm called, appropriately, “Chicken Run”.
Many critics, and indeed the public at large, were most surprised when Chicken Run turned out not only to be the most successful at the box office, but far more entertaining than the big-budget American drama, The Patriot.

Advantages: Good for an animation Disadvantages: You have to already be into Nick park to like it
...the big Hollywood world with Chicken Run, a feature length animation from his Handmade organisation. It's been extraordinarily successful and crowds have flocked to see it. However, it got something of a slating in the press.
So with trusty notebook gripped firmly in hand, dave27 sought to draw his own conclusions. There's nothing like relying on your own judgement, so I dutifully trekked along to my local movie house in Lytham St Annes on a windy ... ...the same petty annoyances after Chicken Run kicked into life.
Take it from me - Chicken Run is as good as anything Nick Park has ever done. If you liked The Wrong Trousers, you'll love this animated spoof of The Great Escape, set in a 1950's Yorkshire (or is it Lancashire? Who knows?) chicken farm. The POWs are replaced by a bunch of (mainly female) chickens who will stop at nothing to escape and reach their own paradise. I really loved this one.

Because Chicken Run is very british it's only right that we should get a better treatment when it comes to the dvd as we get a few more extras than our american cousins. The film is a very amusing and extremely well animated. Like Toy Story the plot and characters come first over the the look and it works. The film is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen. The transfer is excellent and clean. It's the best you'll se the film. Sound wise Pathe ... ...has the usual Dolby Digital 5.1 sound mix which itself is quite lively with some good surround effects. They've also included the soundtrack in DTS which is popular in the USA but hasn't really been put to use in the UK yet. The DTS mix is better than 5.1 as it's more full and has a lot more depth picking out the slightest sounds to make a more rounded mix. If you have the necessary equipment then this is the best way to watch the film. The menus ...

...It is set on a chicken farm in England the characters of the prison are all chickens who are trying to escape from the evil farmer Mrs Tweedy and her husband.
Ginger is the leader of the chickens and escape co-ordinater and she beleives that there is a place outside the farm where chickens can be free and they wont get killed if they dont lay enough eggs.
One day after trying a million different ideas to try and escape,a young stud of a rooster ... ...to go into business producing chicken pies and has installed a huge chicken pie making machine.
The most funniest bits of this film has to be all the different ways that Rocky and Ginger try to teach the chickens to fly it really had me stitches.
I think this film is aimed at both children and adults,the charaters are really well made and the story line is easy to follow.
I would recommend this film to anyone who has kids or just wants to see ...

Wednesday, June 14, 2000 CHICKEN RUN review
I know that there are a lot of you that have taken a look at the trailers, the images and the reviews you have seen for CHICKEN RUN, and you have still walked away with... “It just doesn’t interest me!” My energy and fervor for this film has been based upon the history of AARDMAN Animation and the first 15 minutes of film footage that Moriarty and I sneaked a peek at months ago. I have had faith because... ... ...bought the entire line of CHICKEN RUN toys and they are posed next to Jack Skellington and behind Iron Fist and in front of Godzilla and beneath the Beatles. The last time I bought an entire line of toys before a film came out was THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. And that was because... again... I knew. I knew that this was going to be ‘ONE OF THOSE MOVIES’. Folks were thinking that this was going to be a cheap subpar knock-off of THE GREAT ...

Advantages: Sheer joy both on film and DVD! Disadvantages: None whatsoever
After watching Chicken Run at £1 per view at my Students Union film showing, I told myself, Wow! I'm gonna get the DVD!
And frankly, I'm not disappointed at all once I got hold of one. Here what I've to say about Chicken Run:
THE FILM
~~~~~~~~
The movie is a brilliant animated movie created by exceptional Claymation techniques in filmmaking.(the best there is!) The enthusiastic story line brings to life the Claymation characters, giving each ... ...begins in a small British chicken farm, run by the Tweedys. It's a run down farm with a prison-like atmosphere (at least for the chickens!). The chicken coops are kept within barbed wires and always under the watchful eye of the farmer and guard dog. The heroine in this movie is a courageous hen by the name of Ginger (voiced beautifully by Julie Sawalha). Her goal is to escape the dreadful farm and go in search of freedom and a good place to live. ...
...film.
The originators of Chicken Run use numerous presentational techniques to portray the good and evil characters. I am going to concentrate on the use of costume, setting, camera shots, music, sound effects, lighting, body language and intervention. I am going to investigate how these elements affect the audience’s perception of the characters Ginger and Mrs Tweedie. Ginger, (the main character-a chicken) is shown dressed in a dark green ... ...on her face.
The chicken coops, where Ginger is situated are assembled in rows. These rows resemble a prisoner of war camp, high fencing surround it, secured tightly by chains and locks. Circling the fence there are ream of barbed wire. The coops are continuously patrolled by two savage guard dogs and a very cold and bored, but also angry Mr Tweedie. The coops are dull regimental cells and the chickens are almost like a colourful army troop. However ...
Advantages: SOme funny moments, action towards the end, a lot of effort has gone into making it, films before this one were all good, good animation Disadvantages: Far too many of the same kind of ideas, not eccentric enough, doesn't come up to quality of Wallace and Gromit, too dark, not enough comedy
Whilst most people are familiar with, and love the 'Wallace and Gromit' animated series created by Aardman animations, very few people who I have talked to about this movie (which was created by the same team of engineers and animators) actually enjoyed it anywhere near as much. Personally, I think that I went to see the movie with too high-an-expectation. Knowing that the 'Wallace and Gromit' films have been as good as they have been in the past, ... ...that and I didn't get it. In fact, that was the whole reason that I went to see the film at the cinema but I alongside most of my friends who have seen the film have been disappointed. However, very young children seem entertained when, towards the end of the movie, some action begins to appear on the screen.
The movie is about a group of chickens who are constantly trying to escape from a farm before they get turned into dog food by the farmer. ...
...Basically, there is a chicken farm and they want to escape. When Rocky, the flying rooster arrives on the scene, they see this as their big break and comedy follows on watching all the chickens getting fit, and learning to fly.
