Do I Look Like I Give a Damn?

Advantages: Heart-stopping action and a Bond that can really act.
Disadvantages: That dreadful theme song and poor opening credits.

Bond is back (to basics)! We see the young spy achieve double 0 status before causing an international incident with his first mission in Madagascar. But instead of giving him his marching orders, M needs him to enter a high stakes poker game in Montenegro where he has to take on the mysterious Le Chiffre, banker to the world's arms dealers. If he wins, the nefarious number cruncher will be ruined but if he loses, then Her Majesty's government will ...
...the Treasury's own accountant - the beautiful Vesper Lynd, who threatens James' heart as well as his loins. Director Martin Campbell is the go-to guy for reinvigorating the Bond franchise. He did it with Pierce Brosnan's first outing in "Goldeneye" and manages a fine job here. It's a new style of Bond - it's less about the gadgets and girls and more about Bond as a hired killer. He's stripped away all the frivolous fluff to reveal a leaner, meaner ...

Born To Be Bond

Advantages: Pulsating, action-packed, riveting adventure movie.
Disadvantages: Not a lot!

...long line of Bond movies, Casino Royale. Many other Bond aficionados obviously shared my trepidation. Craig was roundly criticised both online and in the mainstream media for his lack of good looks, (his ears stick out) the wrong hair colour, (he’s blond) and for lacking the required acting credentials to replace a long line of good Bond actors such as Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and Timothy Dalton. The only other movie of note that I could personally ...
...corrupt and evil bad guy. Casino Royale has all of these. There’s a pulsating opening (shot in black and white) which shows Bond making his first kill as a double-O agent, and a truly breathtaking chase and fight sequence through a building site as Bond tries to capture a villain. And that’s only the beginning, as from start to finish there’s enough action in this movie to satisfy even the most addicted action junkie. The bad guy in this movie ...

Put Your Chest Away, Daniel!

Advantages: Exciting, entertaining, great effects, great acting
Disadvantages: Too much romance, too long

...REVIEW The plot of Casino Royale is a bit weak really. James Bond is fighting terrorism – the scourge of the 2000s! He has to win a poker game worth millions, to stop the bad guy Le Chiffre from winning the cash and using it to fund international terrorism. The poker game is to be held at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. That’s about all you need to know really. I spent quite a bit of the film not particularly following the sub-plots, but enjoying ...
...household keeps in their bedrooms! Casino Royale delivers all of this. The car’s there too and the drink, of course, plus the classic way of saying his name. The purists must have been very happy. I was impressed by the script. There were lots of very clever lines, some of which made me laugh out loud. The quick-fire wit and humour contrasted well with the long action sequences. The cast was very good throughout. Personally, I had only heard of ...

Bodacious Bond or just plain boring?

Advantages: Some good performances, excellent stunts
Disadvantages: Too much action, too little plot

...brilliant, as Bond. Knowing that Casino Royale is the first episode in Bond's varied adventures, it seemed right that he looked younger and fitter than Roger Moore, Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan. However, I was expecting to find out a bit more about the man who is Bond, and from that point of view we are given nothing. He begins his career as 007 with no history behind him whatsoever. There is some character development during the film and we see ...
...is therefore a little late - I would have liked to know more about him as a person rather than a superhero. I missed the humour in this bond. Humour, although sometimes taken too far, did really attract me in previous films, and certainly made them more entertaining. Credit where credit is due though, he does give a really excellent performance when being tortured - his screams of pain were so realistic that I could hardly bear to watch it. Eva Green ...

When the chips are down, 007 is there, EVERYWHERE!

Advantages: Star Studded Cast
Disadvantages: Loses plot towards end

Casino Royale was the first book by Ian Fleming featuring Commander Bond.It has to be said, this is not an official Bond film, with such a star studded cast it is hard to believe, although the rumour is the next Bond film will be based on this novel. Background ----------------- Director's licence has taken over a bit I feel, but it does not detract from the film. It is slapstick and comedic and should not be compared with the regular Bond films. ...
...was originally made in 1967, a few years after Dr No was released. Intro ------ The film starts in France, in a gentleman's outdoor WC with a meeting with 007 and a lieutenent from the French Special police. This sets the tone of the film, as it seems to flit from place to place and can be a little awkward keeping up with all the jet set travel! Once acquainted, the theme tune penned by Burt Bacharach kicks in and, if you think you have heard ...

...right man for the part. Casino Royale is the first film he has played the part of Bond and after saying to myself I would go see the film I never got round to it but the other night I finally watched the film and have to say I was surprisingly impressed and it wasn't as torturing an experience as I'd expected it would have been. This becomes a very big game as a lot of money is being put into it. Le Chiffre wants to put more money in because he is certain of a win so he can use the money for terrorism but Bond is trying to stop this. The film goes on it is a good plot but I think it's really hard to tell as the storyline is quite in depth. ...

Advantages: Great film, worthy of its place in the Bond ranks
Disadvantages: A long film, over 2 hrs.

...to be a remake of Casino Royale? I, for one, couldn't wait. Then, the announcement of Daniel Craig as James Bond was made. The potential was there, sure, but I remember thinking they would have to make a really mind-blasting film to kick off Craig's stint as the suave 007. And what a film!! Following a brief black and white explanation of Bond's elevation to 'Double 0' status, it starts as it means to go on, with an intense free-running chase. Without ...
...breathless. And thus it continued. The quality of filming is high. Martin Campbell's direction takes Bond to a modern and sophisticated level only suggested in previous installments, with the plot a simple yet effective one, where Bond is placed at a high stakes poker table to outplay a ruthless financier named Le Chiffre under threat from his terrorist clentele. The casting is outstanding. Dame Judi Dench excels as 'M', and the sultriness of Bond ...

A fresh breath of air for the Bond series

Advantages: New Bond is fantastic, action packed and exciting
Disadvantages: It's a while before the new one is out

With Casino Royale, the Bond series had fresh new life breathed into it with the new replacement Bond, Daniel Craig. Craig was fresh and exciting, and brought a much more modern feel to the classic Bond that many of us love and enjoy. Since this movie was released as a box office success, another one has already been released, Quantum Of Solace, in which Craig also played Bond's role incredibly well. A very large portion of this story is based on ...
...main one obviously being the classic Aston Martin DB9, apparently the crew went through about 20 of these in their stunt acts. These action packed scenes give bond a different style to previous encounters, but the rest of the film keeps in tone with the Bond that everyone is used to, stylish and cool. The story is based on a proffesional poker player called Le Chiffre, he is very rich and also supports terrorism for his personal gain. Le Chiffre ...

Advantages: Action packed movie, Mindboggling story

Well I'm a great fan of James bonds movies. And i must admit, choosing Daniel Craig as the 007 agent was a very good decision. He acts very maturely and no doubt suits the role very properly. Well the story starts with Agent 007 in a mission turned into havoc. His ego is the main problem what causes James to make miscalculated actions. His actions lead to embarrassment to the whole British government. He is on the pursuit of a global terrorist network. ...

Good Film, but not a great Bond Film

Advantages: Good Action Scenes
Disadvantages: Gaping Plot Holes

This movie starts with Bond needing two kills to qualify and become a 00; thus granting him a licence to kill. This all happens in the opening sequence were he is sent on a mission to Prague to make those kills. Amongst these are the MI6 section chief, Dryden, who has sold British secrets, and his contact, Fisher. The basis of the story unfolds when he sent on his first mission as a double-0 to Madagascar in pursuit of international bomb-maker Mollaka. ...

Craig in Casino Royale' starts off by having to earn his Double-0 status, he is later represented as vulnerable, which although we have had insights to the characters emotional side in the series; in Tomorrow Never Dies' (1997, Roger Spottiswoode) one close up angle of Brosnan sitting on the beach thinking demonstrates that he cannot control his feelings and thoughts the way we as the audience thought he could, Casino Royale' ...

...his other films prior to Casino Royale, I had nothing to judge this on. However the dark look into the life of bond is what this film needed and executed well. Extremely Dodgy Spy Spoof

Advantages: David Niven is OK... Just
Disadvantages: Ludicrous plot, bad performances

...and their grip on the Casino Royale... I think. There are also other characters called James Bond including one played by Peter Sellars and one by Woody Allen. You can probably tell from the brief and fairly confused synopsis that this is a fairly confused film that unfortunately is not mercifully brief. With a star-studded cast such as the one assembled here (add to these Orson Welles, William Holden, Ursula Andress, Deborah Kerr and Ronnie Corbett ...
...fails to be entertaining. One of the key problems is that it makes very little sense. The plot is incredibly confused and although perhaps not essential to such a film, you do need to have some understanding of what is going on. This was not helped by the fact that 5 directors were on board (including Huston). It also suffers from actually not being very funny too despite the roster of 'comic' actors. Niven probably fairs the best as the aging Bond ...

Casino Royale Review

Advantages: Tense, fast paced, engaging action
Disadvantages: Poker scenes may bore some

Casino Royale marks Daniel Craig's first outing as 007, James Bond. In it he must stop Le Chiffre, a banker to the world's terrorist organizations, from winning a high-stakes poker tournament at Casino Royale in Montenegro. I was one of those people who was originally skeptical about Craig's casting. I grew up with Pierce Brosnan as Bond and I didn't know if I could accept someone else in that role. Sufficed to say, I needn't have worried. Craig ...
...flashy as Brosnan and he's more quietly confident. But the style, the attitude and the finesse of his Bond is reminiscent of Sean Connery, you could say he is more of the thinking mans bond. As for the film, it's exciting, well acted, tense and has a great story too. Bond and Vespa have a great chemistry together, as do Bond with 'M' and Felix Leiter, the CIA agent who I'm glad to say appears in the new Bond film Quantum Of Solace, though who knows ...
