Advantages Advantages Way above average superhero film

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit clunky in places

Advantages Advantages Good effects (Red Skull makeup and skinny Steve CGI), Good performance from the whole cast

Disadvantages Disadvantages Action didn't thrill me like other superhero films, ending just feels like setup for The Avengers

Captain America may be the first Avenger, but his movie is the last film leading up to next year’s blockbuster The Avengers. As a superhero fan I cannot wait to see the stars of the Incredible Hulk, Ironman and Thor team up on the big screen, but before all that I had to see how the live action Cap would turn out. Hopefully better than the direct to video disaster we got back in the nineties staring Matt Salinger. As a Marvel reader there was no chance that I would miss the movie, although truth be told I’m not all that crazy about the character. My exposure to Captain America is actually ... more

Advantages Advantages Great actors and acting, good story line, plenty of action, bit of romance, great CGI,

Disadvantages Disadvantages The ending is a little disappointing

There seems to be a continuous stream of super-hero movies at the moment and if I'm perfectly honest I'm getting a little bored. Yes, they're all different superheroes and they all have different powers but essentially the plot lines are all the same. Bad guy emerges. Ordinary man suddenly turned into superhero. Superhero saves world. Life goes on. This is why I was so surprised that I was actually really looking forward to the release of Captain America. I had no idea who Captain America was or what he could do but from the minute I watched the trailer I knew this was a movie I had to see ... more

Advantages Advantages A strong cast and effects.

Disadvantages Disadvantages A lack of suspense and under-developed supporting players.

It’s 1942 and scrawny civilian Steve Rogers has just been turned down for military service for the umpteenth time. He’s determined to join the fight against the Nazis and signs up for a secret project, where a newly developed serum created by Dr Erskine transforms him into a super-soldier. Reborn as Captain America, he’s pushed into performing publicity stunts by the government. But when he hears his loyal friend Bucky Barnes has disappeared, he drops out of the stage show and hares off in hot pursuit. His first test as the all-American superhero sees him trying to thwart a nefarious plot to ... more

Advantages Advantages Good characters, decent direction and a good script

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not quite as crisp as it could have been but that is easily overlooked

Until recently I’ve really struggled with Comic Book Movies. They always appeared to be the same old film pumped out again and again and I was finding it all a bit stale. The X Men series stood out from the pack but then a new lease of live was brought to the genre first by the new Batman franchise and then by Iron Man. This gave me a renewed sense of hope when I saw that Captain America had been given the Hollywood treatment. I had a decent level of expectation and over the weekend we took an unexpected trip to the Cinema and I’m glad to say that it lived up to my expectations. A New Hero ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun, special effects, the action once it gets going

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly misses a trick, too long

Somehow, you always knew that Captain America was going to end up like just another one of those chest pumping hoo-RAH films that appeal more to an American audience than us across the Pond. However, never one to be dissuaded by rumour and stereotype, I went into this with the same excitement and vigour that I have done with the other films in Marvel's Avengers series of films. And treated as a link in the chain, Captain America actually does exactly what you wouldn't be able to do in the upcoming Avengers film - give a solid back story and introduce us to the franchise's modern presentation ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fighting Nazis!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Horrible ending

I have never been that big a fan of the comic book genre, but the thing that attracted me most to Captain America: The First Avenger was the Nazis. Yes, Hitler's assemble of arseholes are the main antagonists in this film, with commandant Johann Schmidt/Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) being the biggest threat to America's patriotism of them all. Although Hitler, himself, never makes an appearance, the most entertaining aspect here is the hilarity of the American propaganda (purposely overdone) that acts as a driving force to overcome the idiotic Germans strapped with swastikas on their arms. The main ... more

The Marvel Comics character of Captain America gets the big screen treatment in the 2011 superhero film, Captain America: The First Avenger. Captain America: The First Avenger is set in 1942, when America has entered the Second World War. Steve Rogers is eager to sign up for military service and serve his country during the war, but is rejected due to health and physical problems holding him back. However Rodgers gets the chance to serve his country when he is recruited to a super soldier experiment undertaken by Dr Abraham Erksine. Advantages Advantages Special Features, Amazing Cast

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Storyline

In my opinion "Captain America" was a great film. The storyline didn't pull me in, but was a great movie to set-up "The Avengers".It was very interesting to see how Steve Rogers was transformed into the hero we all know and love, Captain America. I would highly recommend this to any comic fan. I think Chris Evans did a great job portraying our super soldier pal, Steve Rogers. And I can't wait for Evans to reprise his role in what's surely to be a summer blockbuster... ."The Avengers". This movie is great for the whole family, it's filled with action and unbelievable special effects that will ... more
