Eli Roth makes an auspicious debut with CABIN FEVER. Taking an otherwise traditional set up for a horror film, Roth infuses it with enough energy and originality to make it feel...
more...completely fresh. Five friends, just finished with college finals, head for a cabin in the woods to party and embrace their newfound freedom. There's the cute but uptight Paul (Rider Strong), who yearns for pretty lifelong platonic friend Karen (Jordan Ladd); the attractive, but slightly stupid couple Jeff (Joey Kern) and Marcy (Cerina Vincent); and the brute jock, Bert (James DeBello). While shooting squirrels in the woods, Bert accidentally nicks a man, who appears to be suffering from a disgusting disease. Bert returns to the cabin, choosing not to share this information with the gang. But later that night, when the man knocks on their door, the beast is unleashed. Unlike most horror films which make the horror gruesomely visible, the evil in CABIN FEVER is invisible--and highly contagious. And when Karen begins to show signs of contamination, the bond between these close friends begins to unravel. Roth's blackly comic directorial debut shows clear influence from the early films of Sam Raimi (THE EVIL DEAD) and Peter Jackson (BRAINDEAD).

It's Gettin Hot In Here So Take Off All Your Skin
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by LostWitness

Advantages: Nice idea
Disadvantages: Poorly executed

...straight to an isolated log cabin where they revel in the solitude and new found freedom. Whilst the two couples spend some time getting a bit closer, the fifth member of the group, Bert, takes off into the woods with a shotgun and a serious intent to shoot some squirrels. His aim is pretty awful, but whilst he fails to bag himself any rodents he is horrified when a stray shot hits a man. As the man rises from the floor, it is obvious that there is ... Read review

Wish It Weren't Filmed
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by pesky33

Advantages: good idea
Disadvantages: rubbish acting, rubbish script, cliched direction, just plain weird ending

...see some people in the cabin next door, and even more surprised when I realised it was the dishy Paul (who looks a lot like Rider Strong who used to be in ‘Boy Meets World”, although it took me ages to work out where I’d seen him before) and four of his friends. I went over to say hi, and he told me that the 5 of them were on a trip after college ended, a sort of final party affair. He introduced me to the others – Marcey (an attractive brunette) ... Cabin Betrayal
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by streetvibes87

Advantages: The mass hysteria is conveyed through brilliant acting
Disadvantages: Parts of it are surreal yet we are giving no answers. Why did that kid bite him?:s

...doesn't care who you are? Cabin Fever shows human nature in a brilliantly constructed, fast paced and delightfully gory couple of hours. Group hysteria has always been the horror writer's most treasured plot device and Cabin Fever takes it to another level. When a group of students head out into the woods in pursuit of a little fun no one blinks an eye, but as the audience would expect from a traditional horror film it all ends in the inevitable. ... Bewildering
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by Ryan74

Advantages: The strangest film you'll ever see
Disadvantages: Not for everybody

...to find a remote mountain cabin where they can hang out and party like it's 1999. Unfortunately, they don't get the chance to party like it's 1999 (if that was the plot of the movie it would make for quite an interesting horror flick) and instead they bump into a man who is rapidly dying of a flesh-eating virus (which makes him look well rancid, naturally). Being the kind, concerned, thoughtful students they are they do the noble thing to a man clearly ... Read review

Cabin Feverish
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by Galien

Advantages: You could be eating nails.
Disadvantages: It starts...

...name a few. In this genre Cabin Fever doesn’t really deserve a place. It’s a shocker, it gory and its sickening. The scares are few and far between and all the characters are unlovable, vain, arrogant and selfish. Not one of them endeared themselves to me and so it happens that I didn’t really care whether they caught the disease or not. The premise is this. A group of horny teenagers rent out a cabin in the woods (sound familiar already). ... Read review

Very wooden
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by talktothehand

Advantages: Wasnt a wash out
Disadvantages: Seen it all before

...homage to that cheesy genre.’ Cabin Fever’ has all the essential ingredients of that era in the mix of arrogant, boisterous college kids, a rampant virus with zombie potential and piles and piles of Kensington gore. There are references to the classic and creepy’Evil Dead’ and the ludicrous slasher films of those silly seventies a plenty, and it’s hard to see what original ideas director ‘Eli Roth’ has ... Review of Cabin Fever DVD by denzil82

Disadvantages: Annoying characters, pointless, unoriginal

...graduates who have rented a cabin for a week. Surprisingly the cabin is out in the middle of nowhere, and the nearest town is full of strange local types who don't take well to strangers. On the first day at the cabin, 3 of the twenty-somethings go on a wonder and explore the surrounding woods. Cleverly, one of them decides to wonder off alone and shoot things! On his travels he accidentally shoots an injured man, believing him to be some sort ... Read review

CABIN FEVER Starring Jordan Ladd, Rider Strong, James DeBello, Cerina Vincent and Joey Kern. Directed by Eli Roth. Running time: 94 min. Rated 15 College is over for five friends. Karen (sluttish), Jeff (obnoxious), Paul (cutesy), Marcy (sweet), and Bert (dumb). They head off into the woods for a chill out and party holiday. Cult Fever at it's best
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by Magdalena

Advantages: Back to the 70s horror of yester-year
Disadvantages: not enough gore!

...5 friends stay in a cabin in the woods, but things do not go as planned when one of them gets infected with a contagious flesh-eating virus. The question is, who else in the group has it? The fear of infection driving them to turn on each other, can they stick together long enough to get help before they all die? My Opinion: Before going to see this film, I had heard and read nothing but good about it. The general consensus was that Cabin ... Read review

Review of Cabin Fever DVD by louloutrixabelle

Advantages: I've never watched anything like it
Disadvantages: A bit unrealistic

...Their accomodation? A snug little cabin in the middle of no where. On the way there they come across a group of wierd individuals, warning them about the woods, and yet they still continue on with their journey. Meanwhile we come across The Hermit who finds his dog dead and consumed with strange disease that appeared to have been eaten from the inside out (gruesome). Everything still seems great with the teens. They are partying, swimming in ... Read review

...with love, finding nemo, and cabin fever. we discuss it briefly, and we decide that at 18 years old, we're too old for underwater disney adventures, too cool for romantic non-storylines, but brave enough for cabin fever. so in we go, as i realise now, completely unprepared for this cinematic experience. the plot: five college kids, just finished their finals, hit the woods as a celebration. they stay in a cabin which belongs to the parents ... Laugh or Cry?
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by moz86

Advantages: Good film for a Saturday Night
Disadvantages: Didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

...already at the desk with Cabin fever. I started the film behind a cussion on the sofa while the old guy hurling blood all over the place fumbled around the cabin while the group of youths tried to kill him, for what I see to be no apparant reason. (seriously). Towards the end tho, when the main character found the dead guy in the reservoir and decided to turn him over for no reason at all then fell in and caught the diease I laughed my head ... Hmmm....
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by flamesparrow

Advantages: A man swallows a harmonica!
Disadvantages: The plot

Definately an interesting film! I wanted to see it partly because there haven't been enough tacky horrors since the 80s, and partly because I remembered Rider Strong in his Boy Meets World phase (great girly reasons for film viewing). I sat down with the idea that it was going to be tacky, and that I would get laughs - NOT that it was a quality scary horror film... This seems to have been a good plan. Starts off your typical teen horror - ... Read review

...on a break to a cabin in the middle of the woods, and one of the boys there goes out shooting for squirrels. whilst looking for the poor little critters, he thinks he's accidently shot an old bloody farmer-type guy, but in actual fact(unknown to the boy) he's just got the "fever". he's basically dripping in blood..... anyway, later on that night this walking corpse comes knocking on the cabin door for help, and ends up trying to steal the kid's car.. ... fun film but not scary enough
Review of Cabin Fever DVD by aleefuture

Advantages: good fun
Disadvantages: the film doesn't know what it is!

The problem with Cabin Fever was not the film, but the way it was advertised. It is set up as one of the scariest films of all time, when it is in fact a mixture of classic horror and very black humour. It starts very well, preparing you for some big scares. The sound of flies buzzing is used instead of music over the credits and there's a suitably gory beginning. We slid down our seats, ready to be terrified. And for the first three quarters of ...
