Advantages: David Caruso (for me at least) Disadvantages: David Caruso's acting
CSI Miami is a spin-off of its rather sucessful predecessor CSI, and like most spin offs it is rather weak and seems to rely more heavily upon the success of its parent show to secure ratings. How best to describe CSI Miami and indeed the entire CSI franchise? A superficial, banal vacous show tih flimsy plot, wooden characters driven along by cliches, groanworthy dialogue, a thumping soundtrack of some heavy metal band or another and pretty cool ... ...David Caruso is one of my favourite actors and I thought he was simply fanastic as Detective John Kelly in NYPD:Blue, in that role he played a troubled and brooding, fundamentally good guy who would not hesitate to resort to unethical means to secure a conviction. The charisma and presence he exuded was astounding and my esteem for him is only rivalled for that I have for my other favourite actor Danny Aiello. Which is why this review is so damn ...

Advantages: Interesting storylines, plenty of twists. Disadvantages: David Caruso's not the strongest actor, science is made-up.
A spin-off from the original CSI, CSI: Miami follows much the same format as that show. Someone is killed, or occasionally kidnapped, and the CSI team, this time based in Miami, have to use their special sciency skills and range of nonsensical equipment to get to the bottom of things. Half the technology used in the show does not exist, or can't do what the show says it can. And crime scene examiners interviewing suspects? Rubbish. It's all as improbable ... ...CSI? No. In fact, I'm quite a fan of the show. I just feel mildly agrieved that so many people assume the it is in any way scientifically plausible. What it is a highly enjoyable science-fiction series which offers some superb storylines, excellent plot twists and, by and large, excellent acting. I say 'by and large' because the notable exception is David Caruso whose acting style seems to consist of trying to look stern with his hands on his hips ...
