Chunky Funky Monk Meets Hunky Spunky Punk
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
LostWitness
Advantages: Seann William Scott. In a vest. Sweaty.
Disadvantages: Quite silly in places - very dodgy wire scenes
...the film on the Internet. Bulletproof Monk is also another example of a Hollywood attempt to make a martial arts movie, albeit with rather more fun thrown in. From the start, it was therefore always going to be on shaky ground. Comic book fans and martial art purists are united in their passion for their chosen obsessions and Bulletproof Monk probably pissed both groups of people off intensely. For those of us who know nothing of either comics or ...

Destroyin crap films is the path to righteousness
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
WierdAlien
Advantages: Chow-Yun Fat
Disadvantages: The rest of the film.
I’ve been watching martial arts films since I was a kid. I grew up with them, at a time when they weren’t so big in Hollywood. When Jackie Chan was working with Yuen Biao, and Jet Li was making amazing films like “Once upon a time in China”. The early work that not a lot of people have seen, unless they know their martial arts. This was the good stuff and there are very few Hollywood martial arts films that have matched them or even come close. Unfortunately ...

This Monks gone to Heaven ....on a very big wire!
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
Paul32
Advantages: You can rest your brain for 99 minutes
Disadvantages: You'll never get those 99 minutes of your life back you know
Some days I return home from the office very tired, open the little panel at the back of my head, remove my brain, place it into a thimble next to me, and put an action film on to give my eyes something to do.
Being a fan of martial arts films and comic books since childhood, this film that combines both, seemed the ideal fare for me.
BULLET PROOF MONK (2003) stars established actors Chow Yun-Fat (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and The Replacement ...

The Scroll
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
kylara
Advantages: Funny lines and cute guys
Disadvantages: Lack of story
Bulletproof Monk is another comic book adapted for the big screen. It stars Chow Yun-Fat, Seann William Scott and James King in a comic martial arts movie. If you do not mind a limited plot or enjoy Jackie Chan style movies then this may be one you will enjoy, especially as the interaction between Chow Yun-Fat and Scott is similar to the interaction between Chan and Wilson in the Shanghai Knight Movies.

Bulletproof - I wish i was
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
Fake_Plastic_Girl
Advantages: Stars Chow Yun-Fat
Disadvantages: There's really not that much Kung Fu
...quite different in genre to Bulletproof Monk. Hard Boiled and a Better Tomorrow are adult, violent and full of heavy Kung-Fu action. Bulletproof Monk was always meant to be a light hearted, more family film; if you look at it in this light, i think it succeeds quite well; especially considering it is the director Paul Hunter's debut film. Although with flaws, this film is worth seeing at the cinema - whether you're a fan of kung fu or not. ...

Ka-Pow it isn't
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
aunico
Advantages: Good action scenes, pretty
Disadvantages: the script and delivery
The intriguingly titled Bulletproof Monk is a film version of the comic book. The blurbs in various magazines said it was an interesting fusion of styles. ‘Interesting’ it certainly was. It involves a Tibetan monk (Yun Fat Chow) who has inherited the task of protecting a powerful scroll, being forced to flee his homeland after nasty enemies destroy his peaceful monastery in search of the scroll. He then ends up finding and training a young ...

The monk must protect a powerful secret
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
SS4GOKU
Advantages: Some good action scenes, humour, all-round entertainment
Disadvantages: Story line is over the top, main character doesn't have a name
In this epic film Bulletproof Monk star Chow Yun-Fat (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Sean William Scott (American Pie) and Jaime king (Sin City). The film Bulletproof monk is based on a comic book about a Tibetan monk, who taught a street kid how to protect a scroll. The film lasts approximately 99 minutes on DVD format and comes with English subtitle features for the hearing impaired.
I last watched this film around a year ago with some family ...

Advantages: Fight Sequences, humour.... hmmm thats it really
Disadvantages: Acting, Story, Script, Concept..
...monk may well have been bulletproof but the film certainly wasn't. I just about made it to the end (although I was third out of the door at the end) although I did sympathise with the three who couldn't go the distance and left two thirds of the way through.
The shame of it is that I really wanted to like this film but at the end of the day just do not feel able to recommend anyone seeing it. Some of the acting defied description - I mean Chow ...

funny monks
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
lxnet
Advantages: funny, good martial arts, sexy women, great stunts and fights and doesn't take itself too seriously
Disadvantages: tries too hard to be good, bit boring and pointless
ok ok everyone get the idea that you need more info about the film so giving it another go!
the film starts with Nazis trying to steal a sacred Tibetan scroll in 1943. This scroll if read out loud will give the reader infinite powers to take over the world. The scroll is guarded by one man for a period of sixty years and this guardian remains youthful during these years. Not to spoil the film but basically Chow-Yung-Fat takes over the guardianship ...

Plot summary:

Entertaining in a light-hearted way
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
Ljmcr
Advantages: Humour, fight scenes, sexy lead man and woman
Disadvantages: The unbelievable plot, the script
This is a light-hearted, rather frothy film, which is great fun as long as you concentrate on the fight scenes and ignore the howling gaps in the plot and some fairly weak scripting. I think that if you're in a good mood when you go to see this film (as I was) then you'll enjoy it; if you're not, its silliness will probably irritate you very quickly. However, both the leading male and the leading female are very easy on the eye, the fight scenes are ...

Bulletproof Monk
Review of Bulletproof Monk (DVD) by
amyloveys
Advantages: amusing in places
Disadvantages: over the top in places
this film really suprised me! i was expecting to be rubbish, but to be fair its not really that bad. im very picky with my martial arts films as i find the flying through the air and bouncing off arrows very hard to watch, but this is watchable and sometimes even amusing! the ending is the only bit of this film that lets it down for me, but dont let that put you off, just giving my own opinion as i dont like 'fairy tale' endings, all the action throughout ...
