In Bubba Ho-Tep, an elderly Elvis Presley and a black John F Kennedy battle an ancient mummy. As concepts go, you can't get any more unique than that. The concept here though is so strong that the film can't possibly live up to it. Once we gets past that initial idea, the film in itself falls rather flat. ...didn't deserve it. Overall, Bubba Ho-Tep is fun in places. The concept is great, as are a few scattered moments throughout the film. I suspect that horror fans will get more of a kick out of it than I did, but to me, while the idea is great, the film is ultimately flawed. Whats so different about it though is that it gives the "other" less glamours side to his, disapearence as it turns out he ends up in an old peoples home as one of the residents... As a fan of Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead series, I saw that he was in this film so bought it hoping for something similar. Unfortunately, there are no similarities between the films. This is not really a horror film or a comedy - not really sure what it's supposed to be. It has very few funny moments, even though you're constantly thinking of Ash from Evil Dead and hoping for one of his one liners to liven things up. Wait all you like, it doesn't ...
...so I shouldn't compare it but the cult of Bruce Campbell can't even save this film. If you're a die hard Bruce Campbell fan, you'll probably like this film (and will have probably bought it already!) but it didn't really do it for me.
