Advantages: Good performances, intriguing story, quite witty Disadvantages: A bit slow in parts, the ending is a bit sudden

Broken Flowers is rated 15. This is for some strong language and one really pretty brief scene of nudity, thats all thats mentioned on the back of the DVD box anyway. There is also one scene where Winston says he's smoking a joint and Don briefly joins in, so there is a drug reference there and there is one mild scene of violence, which is hardly worth mentioning but I figured I might as well put that here. I'd imagine anyone younger ... ...really, kinda random.
- Broken Flowers: Start to Finish (Outtakes) - This is more of an 'artsy' semi documentary, I felt. It mainly shows clapperboards starting takes, more than actual outtakes, though there are some midly amusing ones. This lasts for about 7 and a half minutes.
- Farmhouse: Behind the Scenes with Jim Jarmusch Commentary - The commentary given here sounds like your listening over the radio. He talks about the movie in general and ...

Advantages: Mildly intriguing, quirky humour Disadvantages: At times, just plain dull
Don Johnston is a middle-aged bachelor whose latest girlfriend has given up on him because of his apparent fear of commitment. Taking to sitting around the house all day staring at the TV screen, his routine is given a kick-start when he receives a letter from a woman claiming that, after the end of their relationship twenty years before, she gave birth to his son. The letter is unsigned. Don shows the letter to his friend and neighbour Winston, ... ...detective. Don draws up a list of five ex-lovers from around twenty years ago, Winston then finds out their addresses and persuades Don to visit them to find out if any of them are the author of the letter. Will Don find his long-lost son? Or is he destined to be alone?
Having watched and enjoyed Lost in Translation, I was looking forward to this movie simply because of Bill Murray. In many ways, there are parallels between his character in Lost ...

Advantages: Bill Murray, easy to watch film Disadvantages: Can drag in places, takes a while to get started
Broken Flowers is a film directed by Jim Jarmusch whose previous film before this was Coffee and Cigarettes, released in 2003. This film was released in 2005. I haven’t seen any of his previous work.
The story starts showing somebody posting a letter. It is in a pink envelope written in red ink. This letter is what this story is all about as posting this makes a big change in somebody’s life. Showing the letter being delivered from the post box ... ...film.
The film then moves to Don Johnston, sitting on his sofa just staring with a deadpan expression on his face. His girlfriend Sherry then appears informing him that she has packed up all of the things and is leaving. This is when you get a bit of an insight into who Don is. She tells him that she feels like a mistress even though he doesn’t even have a wife. It becomes clear to the audience that he is not the settling down serious type. She ...

Story
-------
Don has just been dumped by his girlfriend & to add to his problems he receives a letter from one of his exes telling him that he has a son of 19. His neighbour Winston is a budding detective and he takes it upon himself to help find out the identity of the mother.
Within hours Winston has found addresses for 5 of Dons old flames & planned out an itinerary for him so he can go visit them and look for clues. Don begrudgingly sets ... ...he hasn't seen for 20 years with amusing results.
Opinion
------------
Having only recently seen lost in translation I was quite sure that other emotions based film starring Bill Murray wouldn't disappoint but in some respects it did. The story itself reminded me of High Fidelity to the extent that he was revisiting old flames, not to find what he had done wrong this time but to fish for information & see if he really did have a son.
There is ...
