Advantages: a great film which suits repeated viewings Disadvantages: lack of extras
This film has long been over-looked as one of Sam Peckinpah's finest and it is only now that is seems to garnering favour. The reason for this is beyond me as it is possibly one of the best films of the 1970's.
It is a sort of road trip that looks into the destruction of a man (Warren Bates) who loses everything in search of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Surreal and violent with touches of black comedy it can be seen as a forerunner ... ...will definitely like this one.
The acting is superb throughout with special mention to Warren Bates who reputedly based his performance on Sam Peckinpah down to even borrowing his sunglasses. Bearing in mind Peckinpah was on a self destructive streak and battling alcoholism and the studios you can imagine how visceral and sad the performance is.
The only disappointment about this release is the total lack of extras but then it is worth it for the ...
