Advantages: Some solid perfomances. Disadvantages: Stodgy writing, stolid direction and unlikeable characters.
A series of break-ins at his architecture firm’s new offices in King’s Cross bring Will into contact with fifteen year-old Miro. Will’s investigations lead to him getting involved with boy’s mother Amira, a Bosnian ex-pat who works as a tailor. Meanwhile his home life is no picnic; his wife is prone to depression and her daughter has a compulsive order that has so far defied diagnosis.
“Breaking and Entering” is Anthony Minghella’s third collaboration ... ...yet. It wants to be an insightful and thought-provoking contemporary drama. But instead it turns out a stodgy and self-indulgent bout of upper middle class navel-gazing. It looks slick enough most of the time, with Minghella revelling in the contrast between Will’s glossy Kensington house and the insalubrious environs of his new offices.
