~ The courage to face fear ~

Advantages: Excellent story, great cast, nice sets.
Disadvantages: running time for some

...fact that I have seen Braveheart about a hundred times doesn’t ever make it boring and the other night my flatmate, me and my boyfriend ordered a nice Chinese and sat down to watch the DVD. A friend had borrowed us the special edition DVD and it never disappoints. One of the main facts on why I love this film and had chosen to watch it again was the role from Mel Gibson. I am a big fan of his movies and think he is a brilliant actor. His character ...
...always liked his acting and Braveheart was the second film he has directed which ended up a huge success. Since directing this film Mel has done a few others which include the hit ‘Passion of the Christ’ 2004 and ‘Apocalpto’ in 2006 which was also brilliant. He seems to understand what you need in an entertaining film and Braveheart includes everything that you need and also many features to capture a wide audience. Writer- Randall Wallace Narrated ...

Advantages: Great historical romp
Disadvantages: Dont take the history for granted.

...is in fact the title, Braveheart was the name given to Robert Bruce, not William Wallace. I know that its a small point, but if you use it as the title for the movie, it should at least be relevant. The film sort of gives that the idea that Wallace lead a rags to riches life and became the leader of a glorious revolution that eventually did the job , albeit after his death. Wallace was in effect a minor Scottish noble by birth who was part of the ...
...prominent, David Murray for example, was by far the most famous guerilla fighter of the time. If it was not for the nature of wallaces capture and his death, we probably would not have heard of him. There are many other examples of these sort of re-writes of the history, but Im sure that you get the idea. The facts aside, I do thing this is a great movie, it looks right, it feels right and it has the ablity to be emotional and stirring. Many people ...

Wallace leads the Scottish into battle, hoping to gain revenge for the deaths of his wife and family. There are many battles, lots of blood and the story is a brutal and sad one. It's not just a gory film, however, it is also a beautiful love story and a tale with ...

Braveheart What a Class Film

Advantages: Great film and music
Disadvantages: none

Braveheart……Best Film ever Made!! I have to say that in my eyes this is the greatest film ever made. It’s both a mans film and a womans film. It has both action and romance, the beautiful scenery of Scotland and the haunting music of James Horner.. It starts with the young William Wallace witnessing his village being wiped out and the young girl giving him the thistle at the graveside. I know most of you will have seen this film ...
...much. I reckon it is Mel Gibsons best film and he really suited the part of William Wallace, I don’t think anyone else could have played that role better. So I will tell you my three favourite scenes from the film. The bit after his girlfriend was killed, were he rides slowly into the village. The close up of the horse, the slow action and detail given to the horses stride. The fact that you were waiting for something to happen but you were ...

...you never seem to catch. Braveheart fell into the second category for me. I had no real desire to see it and when the light of my life kept banging on about how fabulous it was it only hardened my resolve (oo-er). Braveheart is somewhat formulaic in it's setup and ultimately we all know the outcome (historical films are sadly stuck with this problem) (unless it's something like U-571 where history gets re-written by the US), but again, like so many films, it's not the destination that's important but the journey. Yes we know what's going to happen but somehow we still feel the thrill of moment and enjoy it. Although this is a long ...

every dvd tries not every dvd truly lives

Advantages: great epic film, good soundmix, informative documentary
Disadvantages: no need for 2 dvd's

I'm going to make a confession. Last night was actually the first time I had seen Braveheart. I've had it on dvd since it was released in the UK but because it's nearly three hours long I haven't had the time to really sit down and watch it. I'm sure the majority of readers will be familiar with the story. Mel Gibson plays William Wallace, a scotsman whose wifeis murdered by English troops. In an act of crazed revenge he actually leads the scottish ...

Bravehart manages this by being sometimes amusing, sometimes touching but having a lot of spirit throughout. It also helps that it has some stunning cinematography and bloodthirsty battle scenes. 1995 Best Picture Winner Holds Ground

Advantages: Epic, sweeping, and battle scenes to die for
Disadvantages: Unhistorical History

...The Man Withour A Face, Braveheart is an excellent achievement. The battle scenes are now benchmark standards in brutal effect, and they have even more power on a large screen; that's not to say that the power is diminished by video or DVD, it's just... well, it ain't cinema. In the same way as Ben Hur, this is a spectacle movie. To disect the plot is largely pointless; it's long without being boring, it has romance, battles, treachery, revenge ...
...The stirring soundtrack is also worth a mention, perfectly underlighting the appropriate moments with gravity and emotion. In fact, the more I think about it, that Ben Hur comparison was probably pretty accurate. It was made in 1995. If you haven't seen it already, go rent it. Philistine. Even just to spot me as an extra... ...

BraveHeart

Advantages: Brilliant Film

This has got to be one of Mel Gibsons most memorable performances with the re-telling of history in Scotland. The whole film is based around the invasion of the English into Scotland, and the hardships they caused forcing the Scottish clans to retaliate as the only means to maintain their heratige and their lives. The story begins with a very young William Wallace disobeying his father by following him into an area where many of his kinsmen had ...
...children. This must have left a strong imprint of violence on that young lad. As the film moves on his father goes to war and comes back dead leaving an uncle to raise William and his brother Hammish. During the time of growing up the English start making laws to suit there way of life and to hold down the growth of the Scott’s, one of those laws being the ability to take any Scottsmans wife on the night of their wedding. Now William Wallace ...

Medieval Kilt wearing at its best

Advantages: Good storyline, excellent fight scenes
Disadvantages: Dodgy accents

Braveheart tells the story of William Wallace, a 13th century Scottish rebel who led the people in what was to become a national uprising against the cruel English king Edward the Longshanks who wants to take the crown of Scotland for himself. Well thats the general premise, now onto the film itself. Braveheart the movie is a big booming epic of a tale that doesn't let one or two historical innacuracies get in the way of an excellent story. The ...
...:-> ) In summary, Braveheart is for me a relatively simplistic tale of good versus evil with huge quantities of kilt wearing heroism thrown in for good measure. Gibson in making this was clearly trying to step away from his previous roles in films such as Mad Max and Lethal Weapon, and while this was not entirely succesful as its another action film albeit with Kilts, swords and a Scottish backdrop it is beyond doubt very entertaining and throughly ...

A brilliant film about a forgotten hero

Advantages: A great epic with amazing music
Disadvantages: Quite long

Braveheart is a film about the Scottish patriot William Wallace who fought for Scottish independence in the 13th century. Director Mel Gibson works on both sides of the camera lens, and takes the starring role as Wallace, a man brought up in a time when several contestants vied for the crown of Scotland. To help decide the matter, the nobles of Scotland asked the king of England - Edward Longshanks - to choose a king. But Longshanks has other ideas. ...
...lose track of time. Braveheart has been slated for its vast historical inaccuracies, and there is really no way to defend this. Major historical events are changed to fit in with the story. The romance between Wallace and Isabella is pure fiction, as Isabella would have only been around 6 years old at the time of Wallace's execution, and the Battle of Stirling Bridge is actually shown without so much of a mention of a bridge!! Therefore if you are ...

...whom the film is based. Braveheart is a historical film set in the 14th century, a time when William Wallace inspires many Scots to fight to keep their country from the grasp of the treacherous English king, Edward Longshanks. The film provides us with an insight into what life was really like then as the director is not afraid to show the cruelties of that time. Wallace is eventually captured in a final betrayal and sentenced to be hung, drawn ...
...English. Overall, I enjoyed Braveheart as I felt it was realistic in spite of being biased towards the Scots and it was easy to identify with Wallace as we follow him through his life. Although it is biased I do not think the film is particularly offensive as it is not intended to be entirely historically correct. I think Mel Gibson was a good choice of actor to play Wallace as he is typically handsome and so will attract female viewers as well ...

It does teach us some previously little known histoty about Scotland that doesn't have to do with Robert the Bruce or Robert Burns, and it entertains with some of the best battle scenes ive witnessed on film. And it's got some memorable quotes, like Wallace's poetic response to Isabella "Every man dies....not every man really lives." This DVD is worth purchasing ...

History Is Bunk

Advantages: Cool fighting.
Disadvantages: All British avoid.

...German. Brilliant. Braveheart comes in between outright anti British sentiment and half true history. Mel Gibson obviously knew from the start that this film wasn’t really going to have a cult following in Britain, but that it would be huge in Scotland. Therefore Braveheart is duly packed with as much Brit-Hating as is possible and chest beating Scottish patriotism which is sickening in its obviousness and the glee derived from attacking the British. ...
...Cut to a big battle. Braveheart cleaves hundreds of Brit soldiers in two. Audience: Hey, he wouldn’t be able to swing a sword like that in real life, it would weigh a ton. And why the hell is your face painted blue, they stopped doing that years before this film is set. Mel: Now I will try for the affections of the Princess. Prince: Take her, I’m gay. King Edward: You are? Right, then I’m going to throw your campy advisor out the window. Audience: ...

Brave Art

Advantages: good story, good characters, excellent battle scenes - truly gut twisting!
Disadvantages: the film may seem a little long to some

When this film first hit the cinema's, it was pretty hard to miss the impact it had. It ended up winning best picture at the oscars, and had all the Scots running from the cinemas screaming for their freedom. Yet who was at the centre of this film that was heavily soaked in Scottish patriotism? You guessed it...not an actual scotsman. Who directed it? Well he wasn't Scottish either. It was the same guy actually, Mel Gibson, which most people already ...
...his accent was pretty spot-on(I'm not Scottish though, so shower me with haggis if you disagree) and his direction wasn't bad for his first time either. The film basically centres on Scottish history figure William Wallace, who led a rebellion against them bastardy English back in the times of Edward the 1st. Wallace, played by Gibson of course, was a commoner who knew latin(?) french(?) and had travelled the world(as they then knew it) only to ...

FREEDOM

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: none

Braveheart is an incredible film. Mel Gibson does a stunning job as the director as well as actor. It is no wonder this film won five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director. The film follows William Wallace (Mel Gibson) and his fight with the evil English king, Edward I (Patrick McGoohan) in order to gain freedom for Scotland. He manages to unite the Scottish into a huge army to lead into battle. In between battles his wife is killed (Catherine ...
...Marceau). This film is very realistic and the battles contained in it look spectacular. The acting throughout is tremendous. Mel Gibson does a superb job of trying to be Scottish and only falters on the accent occasionally. The evil English king is played very well by Patrick McGoohan. The amount of supporting actors is huge but individually they all do an excellent job. The acting during the battle scenes is also very good and it really makes you ...
