Advantages: great cast Disadvantages: not as funny as expected.
...a self titled 'business' called Bowfinger International Movies, despite having never made a movie to date. Bowfinger proceeds to arrange a meeting with his clientele. After failing to persuade a director, or Kit Ramsey to work on his project, the group continue to make the film on their own, taking hidden footage of Kit whilst about his day to day business. This is difficult at the best of times, let alone when trying to complete such a project on ... ...to him they are.
Bowfinger - Steve Martin
Kit Ramsey - Eddie Murphy
Daisy - Heather Graham
This is another film to add to a long list, in which Murphy plays multiple characters. Whilst Murphy is evidently good at such roles, it is more than a little disappointing to see him being type cast. A fresh new face perhaps would have been nice, instead of plumping for the good, but not great, reliable Eddie Murphy.
The story was all just a little too ...

Advantages: Funny Disadvantages: As good as it could have been?
...going through my head when Bowfinger reared it's ugly head. Martin had had it, he was a has-been, and worse still came in the prospect of Eddie Murphy. Oh please, since knocking use senseless in Beverley Hills Cop, it had been pretty much downhill all the way (why are the words 'Pluto' and 'Nash' floating around my tiny mind at the moment?). Did this film have ANY redeeming qualities? Well, there's Heather Graham...Hmmm - Ok, that'll do.
Down on ... ...blown away by the script, Bowfinger just knows that this is going to be a monster hit of a movie - one problem though: no cash. Without cash no-one will work with him and without a star no big time producer will even hear him out. Hmm, what to do, what to do. The hottest star in town is Kit Ramsey and if Bowfinger could just get HIM involved then no producer in their right mind would turn him down. The only problem with THAT is that Ramsey won't ...

~Story line~
Bowfinger is a self-employed director who has his whole life been looking for a break. Unfortunately for Bowfinger no-one believes in him and he is nearing destitution.
With only a rag tag bunch of actors Bowfinger makes a last ditch attempt at making a hit with a script written by his accountant (and part time receptionist) afram called, "Chubby rain". Naturally his crew are sceptical but Bowfinger promises them that he ... ...a cunning opportunist he is, Bowfinger bribes himself a seat next to the director and makes a couple of very loud pretend phone calls to a star he gets his script read by a big time producer. This producer who is a sterotypical patronising Hollywood moron reads it and with a concealed smile promises Bowfinger the film if he can get Kitt Ramsey (the biggest action star in the US today and also a bit unstable ).
Believing he is on the path to success ...

...performers together. That film was Bowfinger and while it was a modest hit it should have done better because it's a lot smarter than the likes of American Pie. Steve Martin plays Bobby Bowfinger, a film director who's on the Z-list of Hollywood. he has a few hangers on who want to get into movies, one day he reads a script from one of his hangers and really likes it. Now he has to get it made and after trying to get some big time producers interested ... ...Naturally Kit isn't interested but Bowfinger instead shoots the movie around Ramsey and features him in it even though he doesn't know it. For close-up shots Bowfinger enlists a geeky look-a-like Jiff (Murphy again) Ramsey is very troubled in the mind and when actors start coming up to him on the street in crazy scenarios he starts getting paranoid whihc leads to some madcap antics and some funny stuff. I reccomend Bowfinger because Murphy is excellent ...

...the shot they need. When Bowfinger stumbles across a Kit double (Murphy again) who will do anything the director asks including fetch the coffee, he starts to think all his birthdays have come at once. Meanwhile, the neurotic Ramsey, never that stable to begin with, begins to lose it altogether as he becomes convinced that sex-crazed pod people are stalking him.
It's a simple plot and, while the script throws a few barbs at Hollywood, it's played ... ...Murphy's; he is brilliant as both the paranoid, highly-strung Kit and his dumb-but-sweet double Jiff. This might even be a career-best.
It's simple, lightweight and throwaway of course, but comedies that try to SAY something, even if they're good, often just don't make you laugh that much. Bowfinger will. ...

Advantages: Steve Martin & Eddie Murphy Disadvantages: Steve Martin & Eddie Murphy
I finally got round to watching this film on DVD. As most other people, I had high expectations of the film. Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy have both released comedy classics in the past, so this should have been brilliant. Not so I'm afraid. Steve Martin plays a director trying to film a movie even through the main star doesn't know he's in it. They manage this by getting the other members of the cast to walk up to Eddie Murphys character and recite ... ...not that the film is entirely unfunny, Eddie Murphy is the saving grace, he had me in stitches a couple of times, Steve Martin just didn't hit the mark for me. I even found some of Murphys humour uncomfortable (ie laughing at a black man whose aspiration in life is to run errands, not exactly PC ) I also found the DVD extras as uninspiring and bland as the film, just the usual outtakes and deleted scenes Its not a bad comedy, its just not a good ...

Advantages: lots of laughs Disadvantages: none if u enjoy a comedy
I didnt know what to expect from this film to be honest. Not another film with Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy!
But, I was pleasantly surprised. Mr Martin's character isn't the best in the world, but he manages to make something of it. Eddie Murphy on the other hand, who plays not one, but two characters, pulls off superb performances as a film star, and the film stars brother. His manic comedy is in full effect as the big Hollywood film star, and ... ...all centres about Steve Martin's character making a film, staring Eddie Murphy, but without his knowledge. So him and his crew creep around, following him and setting him up at various locations, while the camera is there to capture every moment. The look on Eddie's face in some of the scenes as he's pestered by "aliens" is hillarious. Terrance Stamp (i think!) plays a good role too, not a funny one, but it's an essential part of the story, as he's ...
Advantages: great actors, great script, hilariously funny Disadvantages: none
...basic plot is that Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin) is a failed Hollywood director until he finds a script that is to rescue his career. The only problem being he has no stars to appear in the movie and no money to pay any stars. This is where Eddie Murphy comes in. Murphy plays 2 parts in the film, a big Hollywood star called Kit and also he plays Kit's geeky brother. Bowfinger gets around the problem of not having a star in his movie by filming Kit ... ...the film for proper because Bowfinger bribes him by showing a video of him as a flasher, flashing to some cheerleaders!!
Theres the basic plot anyway and I would heavily urge anyone out there to go out and get this video because it will have you in stitches and takes Martin back to the top again after his not so successful outing as Bilko. ...

Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy star in this fast paced comedy. It tells the story of struggling wannabe Hollywood player who want to get a last chance at directing a hit Hollywood film before he turns 50 and is officially put on the scrap heap. He develops quite an ingenious method of getting the hottest Hollywood actor to take the leading rule in his ridiculous film. He decided to follow him around filming and developing the script round what he ...

...Hollywood. Steve Martin plays Bobby Bowfinger a down on his luck producer who may have possibly had one big film .... year ago .... in Taiwan!!! He is convinced that he has the greatest script on earth - titled Chubby Rain - about aliens invading. All he needs is a star ... and some money ... and a distributer ... and - well you get the idea.
Eddie Murphy is a big time star (typecasting there!!). He is also paranoid and delusional. Currently enrolled ... ...here to get him.
Bowfinger decides to make the film using Eddie as the big star - but not telling him. What follows is a series of hilarious scenes as Bowfinger and the other members of the Chubby Rain cast (including Heather Graham) act around an unsuspecting Eddie Murphy.
Made even more funny by the fact that a double has to be found for Eddie's character. Enter Jiff played by a ordothontically enhanced Eddie Murphy (does he get two salaries?) ...

Advantages: Martin and Murphy at their best, great script. Fantastic special effects and martial arts sequence. Disadvantages: None to think of.
Bobby Bowfinger (Martin) is a movie director fast approaching fifty and never having made it in Hollywood. Together with with a group of wannabe's (including a wannabe starlet played by Heather Graham who is prepared to sleep her way to the top.) and Mexican immigrants, he sets out to make a movie with Hollywoods biggest action star, Kit Ramsey (Murphy). There's only one catch, Kit doesn't know he's in it. This movie is fantastic, with a great script and wonderful comic moments. The supporting cast is excellent with Heather Graham and Terence Stamp standing out in particular. ...nor acknowledges that losers exist. Bowfinger (Martin) is a failed film producer who decides to hire Eddie Murphy for his latest film. Except he can't afford him. So he and his dodgy collection of Mexican film makers and wannabee actors film Murphy without his knowledge. Luckily Murphy is a member of a weird wacko religion called Mindhead which is astonishingly similar to Scientology in that they believe in aliens and are deeply paranoid.
Murphy ... ...aliens (which he is). Meanwhile Heather Graham as the ingenue actress shags her way up the ladder. Favorite line: "Where do I go to be an actress? I've given myself a week to make it!"
This is a very funny film, sarky and witty. Eddie Murphy shows just what a talented comedien he is and Steve Martin is triumphant. It has a feelgood ending but it's not the usual saccharine comedy fayre.
Thoroughly recommend as a laugh out loud comedy and a look ...

The double bill of Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy seems like it should produce superior results than this, but once the heightened expectations are disposed of, this is actually quite a funny film. Martin plays a desperate movie producer-director that'll do anything to get a movie made. He's devious and conniving, and the extremes to which he'll resort to make things happen comprise a good chunk of the movie's humor. Another hefty chunk are the dual ...
