Advantages: Incredible effects and story Disadvantages: none!
...it for years to come. Blade fits the bill perfectly, and is the greatest film on DVD I have ever seen. The special effects are quite simply stunning, but don’t worry – the storyline is just as impressive. Blade definitely houses one of the most prolific introductions ever thought of, starting in a Vampire’s blood bath underground dance place, when you’ll quickly remember where that superb Public Domain tune came from – ... ...may I suggest you put Blade at the top of your most wanted list! Be warned though, as there are some really gruesome, stomach churning and eye squint-worthy special effects, and being a Vampire based film and all, you know there’s going to be a fair share of blood. It’s amazing how many different Vampire clones there are out there, but Blade manages to defy them all and bring a certain charm of originality to it – nothing comes ...

Advantages: High Action, Great Soundtrack Disadvantages: none
...Vampires on the loose and Blade kills a lot of them. The story is brilliant and combined with the action and music makes a great movie that you'll watch again and again. This film will appeal to fans of Snipes, vampire movie buffs and anyone who likes martial arts as there is a large amount in the film. I really recommend this movie as I believe it is the best action film of the 1990's. ...

Advantages: Great film, well directed and enjoyable Disadvantages: Can be a bit slow
...I did my op. for Blade 2 so here's my op. on Blade's first outing.
For those who don't know anything about Blade then here is a short re-cap.
Blade (Snipes) is born after his mother is attacked by a vampire, this leads to Blade having the strengths of the vampires but none of their weaknesses. Blade and his mentor Whistler (Kristofferson) are on a mission to hunt down and destroy all vampires.
But one vampire has big plans, Deacon Frost (Stephen ... ...one, as EIV have released Blade for £7.99 and most good retailers will be selling it at that price (check out my op of play.com) so it's quite hard to say, but I would say that if you can get Blade at £7.99 then you've got a bargin, but if it's anymore than £10 then stear clear, why pay so much when you can get it cheaper.
The special features aren't really that good but at the end of the day you have to say to yourself, "Am I buying this for the ...

...one at least. Blade is a dark movie from the director of The Crow: City of Angels based on a comic book it is easy to see where the ideas come from and you will probably know the kind of thing to expect. The story line is highly over the top and the characters/events somewhat unrealistic but then that s the charm of comics and this movie employs this to full effect. Wesley Snipes plays a vampire hunter known by the name of Blade. Firing Silver bullets ... ...seeks to rid the planet of the vampire scourge - although he is one himself. Getting the idea? Well he is also a martial arts expert as well so what you get here is a high octane vampire slaying romp - but sadly the bodies simply disappear in a cloud of 'glitter' rather than the old Dracula tradition which makes things kind of dull - but probably got it past the censors. He uncovers a plot whereby using a special type of blood the vampires can become ...

...The basic premise is that blade is a vampire himself but has control over it and is hunting down the bad vampires and dispatching their arses to hell.
The opening sequence is brilliant and the special effects special. The kung fu that abounds is a little strange though unless you realise that chinese were making vampire films long before this.
The acting is ok but the baddest vampire is just not bad enough. Bit of a wimp vampire in fact.
The DVD ...

Advantages: Gory and great fun Disadvantages: Gory and a little more plot would have been handy
Blade just has to be one of the films of the year. It takes the old tales of vampires stalking our cities into new dimensions, and into a new century. Wesley Snipes plays Blade - a half human/vampire hybrid, created when his mother was bitten during pregnancy. He now tracks the vampires with his cool samurai sword and silver-nitrate-laced stakes. But big things are afoot in the vampire world…
The film as well as being gory, action-filled and just ... ...on the vampire horror genre. The parts are well played, with Snipes making an excellent job of his character, his battle against his vampire urges made quite evident and heart wrenching. Stephen Dorff is also excellent as the radical vampire planning to give himself supreme power and bring about the end of the world. Direction is also admirable, with Stephen Norrington making the film what it is, giving in the new age feel of the Matrix, and to let ...

...and sprayed in blood, before Blade appears on the scene to waste a dozen while you draw breath and save the guy.
Snipes plays the role with relish and is the perfect action "hero".
There's always a grim fascination in vampire flicks and this one has its own share, though it's more a beat em up than a thriller.
I can't say that I'd revisit this more than once but you do find it a powerful piece the first time you watch it.
As ever good triumphs ... ...a real vampire movie.
Blade has absolutely no pretensions of mystery or subtlety - it's a very straightforward good v bad confrontation, although Blade as the unloved champion of the light also has his dark side. The blatant, one dimensional struggle for survival is neither very challenging nor very interesting, although it has some neat set pieces.
I remember liking Blade quite a bit the first time I watched it, and can still understand the attraction, ...

...super hero style, thier is blade trusty sidekick, Whistler. Played by Kris Kristofferston, He is Blades friend and mentor.
Now let's face it, usually when books are turned into movies, we are left with a diluted version of the characters in an over produced movie, But Blade is the exception. Thanks to snipes' martial arts moves and the state of the art special effects, this movie is exceptional.
My favourite part of the movie is the opening scene. ... ...humans there, Which is when Blade makes his entrance. Sensational. From that moment on you are pulled into the world of blade and his battle against the race of vampires.
This movie offers up great actors, actions, special effects, an excellent soundtrack of music asnd it is also available on dvd.
I would definetly recommend this film ...

...Then there is Blade (Snipes). He isn't a half blood or a pure blood. His mother was bitten while in labour and the young baby Blade had already undergone certain genetic changes before he was taken out. Wesley Snipes plays Blade, a half man half vampire character who is out for revenge against the nasty and vicious vampires of the world (ie. America) Buffy this isn't, there is a lot of blood and guts and some very polished martial arts moves. Stephen Dorf plays the bad guy, Frost, a kind of master vampire who is in charge of the vampire gangs and will stop at nothing to bring the vampire world out to rule the earth. Dorf acts very much like a young ... ...opponent of Blade. There are some stunning special effects, made even clearer by the documentary on the disc, and some amazing extras including some interesting deleted scenes such as an alternative ending. The animated menu is also very nice and fitting with the dark, gritty nature of the movie. If you're into bloody action films with vampires this will be right up your street. I really enjoyed it! ...

Ok this movie was shown about 2years, ago but I only just seen it! and loved every minute of it. Also I had no idea it was a vampire story, so the first sceen was a bit of a shock. It was set in an underground club and everyone just looked like normal clubbers then the sprinklers came on and instead of water of foam it was BLOOD, I thought what the hell and from then on it was action all the way. Advantages: Vampires, dark style Disadvantages: none
I knew little about Blade until it was recommended to me by a friend, as I am a fan of vampire films. So I rented it on video not really knowing too much about it. It's fantastic though! I can honestly say that it really made by jaw drop to the floor! The special effects are simply stunning, though in a few places they are a little over done, eg that dripp of blood hanging from the ceiling. The story is good, with Wesley Snipes playing a creature ... ...take daily medication to stop himself from becoming a vampire! This film is fairly gruesome, with a high body count, so if you are a fan of anything dark, full of special effects, you'll love this.
Also the film is left open for a sequel, expect one in 2001. ...
...must be stopped!
Enter Blade in a frantic fugue of gothic/industrial martial arts! Wesley dispatches fanged beasties by the batch, as they crumble into showers of CGI-aided particulates.
How come when the vampires snarl, they sound exactly like a roaring lion? I mean exactly! Couldn't they process the sound just a wee little bit? Who's the engineer, Barnum or Bailey? And why a lion? Why not something really frightening and inhuman like Fran Dresher's ... ...Little surprise, I guess, that Blade is brought to you by notoriously sex-crazed New Line, where the motto is: "We lower our Pants for Tramps and Vamps." or "Screw me, Do me, owe your career To me."
Kris Kristofferson is back after a long hiatus from acting - which included many of his recent roles. Kris plays "Whistler," which is invariably more credible than his previous roles as "Singer" and "Actor."
And then there's Stephen Dorff who's fangtastic ...
