Black Rain is another movie that shows the creative eye of its director Ridley Scott; from Alien, to Blade Runner, to Thelma & Louise; Scott excels in all he does. He shows life on two sides of the ocean, showing how what is regarded as weakness in one country is seen as strength in another. He manages to make the lifestyle enjoyed by the Japanese look so Alien and futuristic; from the flashing lights of trucks; to the backdrops for ... ...screen perfectly, from the instrumental Black Rain theme written and performed by Hans Zimmer; to Gregg Allman's "I'll be holding on".
In my honest opinion Black Rain is an ideal DVD purchase simply because it's so watchable, each time you view it you'll notice something else; you'll see the creative flair of Ridley Scott in a new way. You also get to look at a different dimension the characters portray from your first viewing too; look below the ...

Advantages: Good Actors Disadvantages: None maybe not enough redheads in the film
Black Rain……..Loved The Music……… I must say that although this film was made in 1989 it remains in my top 3 all time movies. If I ever read a tv guide and notice that it’s on I will watch it again. I think in total I have watched it about 11 times and although the first time was the best I still love the film….. It of course has two great actors in Micheal Douglas and Andy Garcia. My wife really has a thing ... ...film up. The music from Black Rain is the most haunting piece of music that I have heard, you can find that track on “Classical Chillout” and I believe it is also the theme music from “Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence”. I will not tell you how the film ends but I will say it’s a great performance from Micheal Douglas, even better than the one on his wedding night!. Andy Garcia is great in the supporting role but you women ...

Advantages: Excellent acting, very atmospheric, good action Disadvantages: Possibly a bit too violent for some...
Made in 1989, ‘Black Rain’ is not just an excellent police and gang war film, but also touches on some difficult questions about the relationship between America and Japan, and deals with the clashes between two very difficult cultures and the role of the code of honour in Japanese society. However, despite atmospheric direction from Ridley Scott, and excellent performances from Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia, ably supported by a strong ... ...Douglas plays the role of Nick Conklin, a New York cop who is under investigation from the Internal Affairs division due to his suspected involvement in high-level corruption, but Conklin has more important fish to fry. He and his partner Charlie Vincent (Garcia) are on the trail of those responsible for a brutal Yakuza gang slaying in NYC, and when they capture one of the killers, they are detailed to fly him to Tokyo and hand him over personally ...

...being a victim of the black rain of the aftermath of the Hiroshima bomb. Douglas decides to team up with him to get at the young chap who is looking to take over.
Big shootout and bike chase at the end. Don't look though if you don't like to see people's fingers being sliced off.
Trite ending, sobby sobby goodbye at the airport with still frame and drippy music. But on the whole the film is quite good. ...

...factories that expel lines of Black Smoke. During the flight Sato looks straight at Michael and Michael replies by head butting his lip, busting it. Sato takes this personally too. Once in Japan, Sato is to be delivered to the authorities at the planes entrance and go back via the same flight. They deliver the Sato but 5 minutes after the authorities arise, lol, what I meant to say is that Sato was delivered to the wrong people. Michael is furious ... ...Japanese Police Station. Japanese police chief clearly lays it down by saying Sato was their responsibility and Michael and Andy were to stay clear of him, naturally he doesn’t know Michael does he? Michael is appointed a guide in Masahiro (Ken Takakura).
Can this trio make a difference? Michael’s job is on the line and failure in this jib wouldn’t do Andy any good as well, or this going to blow up in their face, BADLY?? Remember this isn’t USA ...

Advantages: Young Michael Douglas in a period piece Disadvantages: Slow, difficult to uderstand, bad soundtrack
A Ridley Scott action thriller with Micahel Douglas and Andy Garcia in it sounds great! Nice macho picture on the DVD box for the ladies to swoon over and the promise of car chases and fist fights for the boys - oh, wasn't it great in the 80s before the notion of PC correctness crept in?
You settle on the sofa with a bottle of beer and a bag of popcorn, ready to be pleasantly entertained while feeling slightly superior - 'A guilty pleasure' as one ... ...Slow action? Unbelievable American hooker? What's going on?
I was sadly disappointed by this film. I'm a big fan of Lethal Weapon etc, and thought this was going to be a buddy cop movie of the same ilk -perhaps with a bit of Jackie Chan action thrown in for good measure.
I found it was hard to understand the actors, and had a slow plot. Worst of all, I found it was slightly insulting to the Chinese. The lead characters didn't take kindly to a foreign ...

Advantages: Some big swords Disadvantages: Formulaic
This offering from the late Eighties sees cops-in-arms Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia travel to the Far East in order to retrieve a gangland boss who'd escaped their custody. Apart from a few good action sequences [especially the bit where Douglas gets suffocated with a plastic bag (do us all a favour, please)], this is an uninspired and formulaic "thriller" that I remember first getting out, 'cos there was nothing else in the local video shop. ...
