The Batman film that was long overdue!!

Advantages: Very dark and moody. Totally Batman... spot on!!
Disadvantages: Slow in parts.

...the complete screw up with Batman and Robin and the fundamental failure of the George Clooney as Batman at the box office, some serious rethinking had to be done. Not only did the fans of the Caped Crusader turn there backs on the film but also kept away in there droves making the film itself one of the biggest disasters since Raise the Titanic or Ishtar. Warner Brothers were somewhat understandably concerned, but also very reluctant to go ahead ...
...with the success of the Batman Animated series and talk of a new Superman film in the works this was to bring about a decision from Warner's that a new Batman film was to be green lit for production. This was in 2003, just 6 years after the 1997 release of Batman and Robin. The cinema had become a different place as well, as DC's competitors Marvel already had showed DC how superheroes can successfully be transferred from paper to screen with Spider ...

Super Hero...... Super Movie

Advantages: Much better than the last set of Batman films
Disadvantages: Poor navigation on 2nd disc

...After the last run of Batman films, which went from initially being good to absolute dire, I approached this latest incarnation with much hesitation. Too say that I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Gone are the comical characters and unbelievable plots, and replacing them is some very deep characters and a brilliant plot. The whole film feels more real, although still with that little bit of fantasy which makes the film exciting. What ...
...This is the most tactile Batman I have seen, as he has more of an animal instinct about him and a very sinister side to his character. All in all Bale has done a remarkable job of creating a new Bruce Wayne and Batman which is more realistic than those portrayed by George Clooney, Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer. In a supporting role is Michael Caine (The Italian Job) as the loyal butler Alfred. Too be honest the character of Alfred is more of a substitute ...

...and 'Memento') Plot '''''''''' Batman Begins deals with the origins of the Batman legend. It commences with a childhood incident which first instills the fear of bats in to the young Bruce Wayne (Gus Lewis). We are led through a brief insight in to Bruce's childhood, where his parents (Linus Roache and Sara Stewart) are shown to be likeable, upstanding citizens who, along with their extensive personal success and wealth, also give back to the ...

In addition to his sense of loss and guilt that he survived while his parents were killed, he also feels to blame as he wanted to leave the safety of the theatre early. Bruce develops in to a bitter, angry young man who seems intent on self-destruction. This is compounded when the man ...

The Dark Knight Strikes Again

Advantages: Great action, atmosphere
Disadvantages: Katie Holmes

The original series of Batman films, started by Tim Burton in 1989, left a few questions hanging in the air with their depiction of a reasonably mature Batman fighting crime with a minimum of backstory. Where in the name of Adam West did he learn how to be Batman? Who taught him martial arts? Where does he get his gadgets and car from? Does anyone help him secretly? Batman Begins, an excellent reboot/rethink of the franchise, answers these questions ...
...What is great about Batman Begins? The casting for starters. It was an inspired move to cast British actor Christian Bale as Wayne/Batman. Bale is an excellent actor and adds a bit of gravitas to the centre of the film. He's more than buff enough to fill the Batsuit and does a good job in seperating the Wayne/Batman identities. He's refreshingly intimidating as Batman (Batman is supposed to scare criminals afterall) but often acts the drunken spoilt ...

Advantages: Gritty, darker than previous films, Christian Bale is a great Batman

...a massive fan of the Batman franchise when I was growing up, but I have seen all the earlier movies, although I cannot really recollect them with much detail. However, superhero movies seem to be on a comeback at the moment with Superman, The Hulk, and Spiderman all making a splash on the movie scene, and therefore it was just a matter of time before they somehow bought Batman back again. And indeed in 2005, Batman made a comeback, but not quite ...
...an established superhero such as Batman could have proved problematic but to be honest, I feel it was a good idea and it did work, giving us a good, believable past life to Bruce Wayne, and the creation of Batman as well. One thing which I was concerned about with this film was continuity with the older films, and we did indeed spot an error. My fiance noticed however was the fact that they have changed the killer of Bruce's parents, who in the Original ...

Batman Begins cures a run of bad features

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Nothing

Batman Begins Batman - A Little History Batman is a dark superhero, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger in the 1930s, and published by DC Comics. He is the alter-ego of Bruce Wayne, millionaire orphaned at a young age. Following the TV series of the superhero's adventures with his sidekick Robin in the 1960s, in 1989 Tim Burton directed Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson in 'Batman', a very dark film which carried a '12' rating (first to have this ...

The Plot The story starts with the very young Bruce Wayne in the aftermath of his parents' deaths. Now heir to a fortune, Wayne grows up travelling the world seeking ways of fighting for justice and ...

The Bat is back

Advantages: Answers a lot of questions, back on good form
Disadvantages: Vehicle for setting up film number 2

...we all know the original Batman film was great and then from then on it was a gradual decline. Tim Burton's dark film was transformed into a farce by the time George Clooney put on the rubber suit - so the only way Batman could go was backwards. Right back to the beginning as the name would suggest. The film sets about establishing how Bruce Wayne (Bale) went from a rich kid, witnessing his parents murder to a rubber clad vigilante. It also delves ...
...Overall: This is the best Batman film since Tim Burton's early efforts, it is dark and explains most of the questions about why Bruce Wayne is the way he is. Bale is perfect, as the geeky teen turned muscle bound playboy with an eye on revenge. The cast is pretty solid too, backing up the great characterisation and script. Michael Cain is on his usual form as is Morgan Freeman. The weakest link to me is Katie Holmes as the annoying do-gooder. Gary ...

...Bat logo emerged. Yes folks Batman was back and in a big way. Tim Burton's gothic adaptation of the character was a big box office smash and got even darker with the sequel Batman Returns (which I happen to prefer). But then the franchise moved away from the characters dark origins and became more of an excuse to shift some toys and merchandise around a summer blockbuster. This Joel Schumacher's Batman films were over the top affairs, Batman Forever ...
...years for the smell of Batman & Robin to waft away before The Dark Knight could return. Batman Begins is everything it's title suggests. It's a re-invention of the character and a case of going back to basics. Momento director Christopher Nolan was charged with bringing some respectability back and from the moment his name was announced you knew the film would be in good hands. Christian Bale wears the mask this time around to play Bruce Wayne, ...

...springs the latest in the Batman series of films, Batman Begins. Having seen the gradual demise of the franchise with films like the heinous Batman forever, it begs the question why they felt a prequel would be the answer. I must admit that I am not a fan of comic books or their associated films; the sci-fi fantasy genres hold very little sway with me. For some reason, perhaps blinded by the dour nature of other films available or the intoxication ...

Advantages: Well produced. Good balance of action. Great cast
Disadvantages: None

Batman begins was release a few year ago (2005) but I recently watched this as I hope to see The Dark night soon. The films title gives a pretty good indication as to what the film is about but in short it goes from the start showing the events that made Bruce Wayne decide to create his alter ego. Christian Bale takes the part of Batman / Bruce Wayne who you first see in a Chinese prison where he is looking bedraggled and fighting 6 other prisoners, ...

Batman REbegins his movie career right here.

Advantages: great film
Disadvantages: wrong roles for some characters

Batman REbegins his movie career right here. Lets get his out the way first, I loved the original Batman film with Val Kilmer and Jack Nicholson, but Batman begins does a fairly better job by focusing more on Bruce Wayne and his reintroduction to Gotham City after his absence, and in building relationships with those around him, i.e. relations with his butler Alfred, city attorny Rachel Dawes, Jim gordon the future commisioner and Lucius Fox. This ...
...Batman gets hit, and you feel the tension when Batman is in a tightspot or against the clock, i.e. when he needs to get rachel back to the cave to administer anti-venom. Which brings me onto to my next part, the gadgets :D. As i stated earlier the focus on the film is the relationships ...

The bat is back!

Advantages: Revives the franchise
Disadvantages: come casting mistakes

Batman is a world wide phenomenon and one of the most successful comic book hero's of all time. The ingredients of his persona mix so well to produce 'The Dark Knight', a man so troubled by his past and the evil he sees around him that he creates an alter ego who can do the good he cannot in his everyday form. Batman excels because he truly is a dark character, relying heavily on fear - a weapon often used by his enemies. Also he really is a normal ...
...felt that the role of Batman is based around the character and therefore the actual success of the film relies more on the supporting cast as there are the true variables in the film. Batman Begins boasts an impressive cast of A-list actors and actresses which lends a lot of credibility to this new Bat franchise. In the 'light' corner we have Gary Oldman as a young Sgt. Gordon, a good cop in a bad city who Batman immediately trusts and utilises. ...

...his voice an octave for Batman so it's conceivable people wouldn't recognise him behind the mask. But even when playing up Wayne's image as a capricious playboy, there's always a sense of something altogether more menacing beneath the surface. His relationships with his fellow cast members sparkle in some cases, as with Michael Caine as his long-suffering manservant. But where there should be real chemistry with Katie Holmes, there is nothing more ...
...great gadgets and gizmos for Batman that have a rough and ready air about them that makes them feel like they really could exist. The Batmobile is a souped-up military dune buggy, the Batsuit re-sprayed body armour and the bat-shaped projectiles hand-made by the man himself. Even the Bat-Cave looks feasible because we see it being built. The CGI comes in where the Scarecrow sets out to create chaos through chemically-induced fear. The vibrating backgrounds ...

I Best Say Thank You

...their big step in bringing Batman back to the big screen in 2005 with Batman Begins, and boy did they do it in a big way. I'm sure most people have seen a Batman film in the past, although with the special effects directors can now include in their movies, this was going to be something special. Batman Begins shows how the story starts, in this an era of when people want to know what started the chain of events. Christian Bale was cast the big role ...
...Bale has taken on, before Batman he appeared in 'America Psycho' (2000) and since this movie he has appeared in 'The Prestige' (2006). If you're going to be playing Batman, that means you're also going to be playing the man behind the mask. Bruce Wayne is the real man behind the mask. The film opens with a young Bruce Wayne playing around in the garden of his rich family manor with a female friend, who we later see the grown up version of as well. ...

A new beginning

Advantages: Ann interesting plot
Disadvantages: Can be be a little slow at times

The Batman franchise had seemed to have come to an end after the dreadful Batman and Robin (1997); however Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins has successfully managed to give the Cape Crusader a new lease of life. Batman Begins takes us back to the beginning and shows how and why the young multi millionaire Bruce Wayne becomes the superhero of Gotham City. The film begins with Bruce Wayne having sacrificed his privileged background and living among ...
