Advantages Advantages Very dark and moody. Totally Batman... spot on!!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow in parts.

Hello and welcome to my 51st review on Ciao. After the complete screw up with Batman and Robin and the fundamental failure of the George Clooney as Batman at the box office, some serious rethinking had to be done. Not only did the fans of the Caped Crusader turn there backs on the film but also kept away in there droves making the film itself one of the biggest disasters since Raise the Titanic or Ishtar. Warner Brothers were somewhat understandably concerned, but also very reluctant to go ahead with a fifth Batman film and decided to can the franchise for the time being, this was quite a ... more

The original series of Batman films, started by Tim Burton in 1989, left a few questions hanging in the air with their depiction of a reasonably mature Batman fighting crime with a minimum of backstory. Where in the name of Adam West did he learn how to be Batman? Who taught him martial arts? Where does he get his gadgets and car from? Does anyone help him secretly? Batman Begins, an excellent reboot/rethink of the franchise, answers these questions and establishes itself in the Premier League of comic-book films. The film opens with a young Bruce Wayne falling through an old well on the ... more

Advantages Advantages Gritty, darker than previous films, Christian Bale is a great Batman

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Katie Holmes

I was never really a massive fan of the Batman franchise when I was growing up, but I have seen all the earlier movies, although I cannot really recollect them with much detail. However, superhero movies seem to be on a comeback at the moment with Superman, The Hulk, and Spiderman all making a splash on the movie scene, and therefore it was just a matter of time before they somehow bought Batman back again. And indeed in 2005, Batman made a comeback, but not quite as we thought. Batman Begins actually takes us back to the creation of Batman, and how exactly he came about. The story starts with ... more

Batman Begins Batman - A Little History Batman is a dark superhero, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger in the 1930s, and published by DC Comics. He is the alter-ego of Bruce Wayne, millionaire orphaned at a young age. Following the TV series of the superhero's adventures with his sidekick Robin in the 1960s, in 1989 Tim Burton directed Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson in 'Batman', a very dark film which carried a '12' rating (first to have this rating) which was ater changed to a '15' and was both critically and commercially acclaimed. I really don’t know why I have never seen this film as all the boys in my house, hubby included are big sup hero fans. When this can on the TV the other night I made a point of recording it as I was very curious to find out how Batman began and what made him want to be him. I am so glad that I did as I so enjoyed the film. As I said previously this was watched on the TV so this is a FILM ONLY REVIEW. At the start of the film we see a very young Bruce Wayne playing with his friend Rachael when he falls down a well and is attacked by bats. He suffers nightmares from this and when he is at the ... more

Advantages Advantages Has a sense of realism, entertaining, good adaptation of the character

Remember back to the end of the eighties when that Bat logo emerged. Yes folks Batman was back and in a big way. Tim Burton's gothic adaptation of the character was a big box office smash and got even darker with the sequel Batman Returns (which I happen to prefer). But then the franchise moved away from the characters dark origins and became more of an excuse to shift some toys and merchandise around a summer blockbuster. This Joel Schumacher's Batman films were over the top affairs, Batman Forever was serviceable but Batman & Robin really killed the franchise dead. Simply put it was a ... more
