The beginning for Burton's Bat

Advantages: Great acting, great story, a dark and 'mood' film - a great adaptation
Disadvantages: None for me.

...and directed by Tim Burton, Batman is the first in a series of films about the comic book hero that was released back in August 1989. This is a review of the film only. ****Story line**** Gotham City is a dangerous and dark place to live that is becoming more and more fraught with criminals each day. The only protection Gotham’s residents have is the local police force, but most of these are corrupt and are only out to line their own pockets. There ...
...in it. The Joker and Batman have two separate and conflicting objectives and soon clash, and have epic scuffles, as each tries to achieve what they set out to do. It appears that Batman ahs not only captured the attention of the Joker, but also that of prize winning journalist Vicky Vale (Kim Basinger), who makes it her mission to uncover the true identity of the man behind the mask and the Bat suit. Will the Joker get his wicked way and take control ...

Batman and Robin The Deadly Duo

Advantages: Great characters
Disadvantages: none

Batman & Robin…..The Deadly Duo… When you see the words “The Deadly Duo”, you automatically think of Batman and Robin, those two guys that run around in tights.. So I remember well the first time my eyes glimpsed a Batman comic, I was still at Primary school and I spotted it on the rack at our local shop. I was taken aback by the strange outfit they both wore and decided to buy the comic just to see who these two people ...
...of our two heroes, well Batman was called Bruce Wayne and Robin was called Dick Grayson and to be honest in that little number that he ran around in he looked a right Dick!! They lived in Bruce Waynes mansion and it was really impressive. It had the batcave where of course the Batmobile was parked. Now this was some car but I doubt if he could even insure that baby in Belfast today… So how did our two super heroes know that Gotham City was ...

...is the best of the Batman series, which has already seen three differnet actors play the lead role! This, the original film, was made in 1989 and starred two absolutely amazing actors playing the super hero and super villain. The scene is set that in Gotham City, an underworld boss plans to let his "Number One", Jack Napier (Nicholson), take the rap for some dodgy dealings. Jack visit the chemical factory and soon realises that he is in the middle ...
...cloaked figure, known only as Batman (Keaton), appears on the walkway above a vat of acid and blocks Napier. A struggle begins and Napier falls over the edge, but Batman can't keep hold of him and he falls to what is assumed to be his death. Meanwhile, back at the local newspaper office, a new reporter, Vicki Vale (Basinger), begins work and starts probing into the reports of this so-called Batman. She also catches the eye of multi-millionaire bachelor, ...

Ever Danced With The Devil In The Pale Moonlight

Advantages: Nicholson, Burton, Cinematography
Disadvantages: Keaton, Silly romance between Keaton and Basinger

...we could have done without. Batman bat(tles) it out with the evils of the city, employing all of his mst famous gadgets and a few more as well to save they day...or not...you’ll just have to wait and see... Directed by Tim Burton, with an all-star cast and surrounded by massive hype, there was little chance of the Batman movie ever being anything other than a box office smash. However, some of the biggest grossing movies have also been monumental ...
...major flaws to this movie, but overall its pretty enjoyable. It was never going to stand up to scrutiny against all of the hype unless it was a groundbreaking piece of movie making which it certainly isn’t. The main fault of this movie is the casting of the lead character. Michael Keaton is abysmally miscast in the role of Batman. Whilst trying to come across as dark and brooding, Keaton just comes across as a plank, more wooden than a wooden ...

The Best Batman offering.

Advantages: Brings back the original series.
Disadvantages: Still abit off the wall like the latter film's.

...comic readers I loved the Batman collection. I remember the first time I saw the original Batman film I most egmit I fell in love with it even though it was aimed at an older audience rather than it's loyal younger comic and cartoon followers. Gotham City seems to be a futuristic, dark, apocalypse bound landscape, It's citizen’s lives in fear of crime and what appears to be a new threat. The notorious Batman played brilliantly by Michael Keaton. ...
...in fear of the notorious Batman its crime rate begins to soar due to the Joker played by Jack Nicholson. Jack find's himself battling the Gotham police at the local Chemical factory. Fighting Batman Jack falls into a vat of chemicals, which bleach his skin and turn him into the criminally insane Joker. After this the joker begins to kill off his enemies and Batman begins to win the publics affection. The Joker then gets one up on Batman by offering ...

The Dark Avenger

Advantages: Moody, magnificent, atmospheric
Disadvantages: Honestly can't think of any.

...Burton's epic realisation of the Batman legend. Tim Burton is famous for black humour, for darkness, for evil and his horrific animated creation, The Nightmare Before Christmas demonstrated clearly Burton's outlook on life. He liked the offbeat, the left of field, the evil and he was extremely good at it. His credentials were in every way perfect when the decision was taken to bring The Dark Avenger to life on the silver (or should that be black?) ...
...Burton vision. The Batman stories had been brought to the cinema before, first in 1943 with an episodic adaptation of the comic strip, and then again five years later, but the most famous depiction was back in 1966. Then, however, it was the camp, lycra vision that had been pasted in gaudy technicolour on the television previously starring Adam West as Bruce Wayne. It was a cult classic, as was the TV series, but was always cheap and shallow and ...

This a good film........

Advantages: A good family film.........
Disadvantages: none..........

...to be called a movie) Batman and Robin by Shumacher. What was WB thinking? Anyways, anger aside, lets get to the movie. Keaton, by far, is the best Batman ever. I love how he plays the troubled Bruce Wayne and dark Batman. His Batman takes nothing from anyone. Jack Nicholson as The Joker is also perfect, I just love his sense of humor. I can't think of anyone else qualified enough to be the legendary Joker. Kim Basinger also is good as Vicky Vale, ...
...harmless, but when mixed, letal. Batman of course catches on to this, and tries to stop the Joker. Bruce Wayne meets Vicky Vale, and they start dating, but she senses something's wrong with him. Joker also becomes obsessed with Vicky, and plans to make her his. Batman eventually tracks Joker down, and finishes the job. There is of course more to the story than that. This comic remains faithful to the comics, most notably with the dark atmosphere ...

Ever danced with the Devil by the pale moonlight?

Advantages: Fun film for most Batman fans
Disadvantages: Not for hardcore Batman/comic book fans

...the first instalment of the Batman film legacy, and in my opinion, one of the best. Made in 1989, the film went on to make nearly $680 million in today's money, making it the 5th highest grossing film of all time. The film opens with a family trying to find their way through the dark dingy alleys of Gotham City. Little do they know that they are about to be the victims of a mugging by two crooks. This crime, however, doesn't go unnoticed, and "the ...

...some initial releases. Batman was one of these titles and it really shows the infancy of dvd titles. The film itself is a great dark gothic comic book movie. It's everythngi you'd expect from the dark knight. Keaton is the best of the cinematic batmans so far and is a charming Bruce Wayne. Jack Nicholson is wonderfully over the top as The Joker and at times domintes too much. Still it's enjoyable but not as good as it's sequel. The film is presented ...

Batman DVD

Advantages: A great film
Disadvantages: DVD extras of little interest

The best Batman film (in my opinion) comes to DVD. Tim Burton's inspired direction provides a darker and more brooding vision of the caped crusader, laying to rest the cringe-inducing campness of the Adam West/Burt Ward TV series. Sam Hamm and Warren Skaaren's screenplay give Tim Burton plenty to work with and he directs a strong cast in this wonderful film. Michael Keaton is superb as Bruce Wayne (alias Batman) and he play the role with a wit ...
...Kim Basinger positively sizzles as Vicky Vale, a photographer assisting Robert Wuhl (Alexander Knox) in his search for the mysterious Batman. Inspired casting sees Jack Nicholson steal the show as The Joker. If ever there was a role that was made for Jack Nicholson, then this is it. For an older film, the transition to DVD is remarkably good. The picture is sharp and clear and the colours are bright and clean. The sound (in Dolby Digital 5.1) is ...

Dark Masterpiece!!

Advantages: Perfect atmosphere and style, great cast
Disadvantages: Are you kidding?? this is a classic!

When Batman first came out, its dark, gloomy and very uncamp style was praised. Tim Burton, as ever, used the deep reaches of his dark imagination to give us a tortued Dark Knight, grieving still for his slain family. We later find that Jack Nicholsons show- stealing Joker did the dirty deed, while Kim Basinger's photojournalist Vicki Vale provides the impossible love interest for Bruce Wayne. Most viewers would remember Batman as either the camp ...
...one of those dartguns? As Batman is the first charcahter to show up, we begin to think that The Joker stands no chance against Batman, and I doubt anyone but the dangourus Jack Nicholson sould have pulled off the Joker. Joker is most definately a madman. As the film progresses, we see the Jokers creation in a vat of acid, the scuplting of his face in a seedy udnerground dentists surgery, the mutlation of his girlfriend, and his attempt to poison ...

Great movie

Advantages: Great story, Great effects and make up, great soundtrack great performances.
Disadvantages: Not enough of Alfred and commissioner Gordon shown

Tim Burtons 1989 Batman is one of the best adaptions of comicbook movies to date. The film was not campy like the 60's tv show which in my eyes was a bonus. Michael Keaton is the best Batman in my eyes, he is really taken seriously. Jack Nicholson was outstanding as the menacing Joker. Although he could have been meaner like he is in the comics rather than madder. But still i'm not complaining. Alfred and commissioner Gordon were not used enough. ...
...was only one villian for Batman to face which meant there was more screen time for characterizations and plot. Also Batman faced his arch nemisis which is a cool story in it's self. The action scenes were realistic and were not over top and the costumes and make up of both characters were really done with professionalism by the make up artists. The music conducted by Danny Elman was breath taking as was the music sung by the artist formely known ...

Rocky Gothic Horror Show

...cartoon humour of the first Batman movie - you know, the one from the Sixties, based on the TV series with Adam West and Burt Ward and lots of Kapow!s - with the dark menace and intrigue of the Tim Burton manufactured nightmarish scenes in the first of the 'new' series. True enough, when Val Kilmer and George Clooney became involved in the dog ends of the latter with Arnie Schwarzenegger and Uma Thurman administering the death rites, even the New ...
...and some phenomenally dark footage, Batman was a unique film, doom laden and ominous and deeply, deeply satisfying. The ill fitting and gaudily coloured tights of West and Ward mutated into jet rubber and leather, with Gotham City a sinister daub of steamy, smokey mayhem. It was impressive stuff, as visually stunning as all of Burton's nest stuff. The doomed outsider of Edward Scissorhands was transplanted into the Big City version of The Nigthmare ...

...remains the best of the batman series, and has a certain style and flare that makes you believe the comic has almost been brought to life. It's always great to see how Tim Burton manages to make comic-book style films so realistic in a sense - for the original Batman TV series could never be taken seriously, Adam West truly was the 'comic-crusader'- but with this film, Michael Keaton is wonderful as the 'dark knight'. Keaton has a certain humane ...
...serious and menacing appearance that Batman is intended to give, plus Tim Burtons dark and foreboding vision of an industrial Gotham really reflects the original concept of the comic book. One of the highlights of the film for me though is Jack Nicholson, who's name has become synonomous with the movie. He is absolutely perfect for the role of the Joker/Jack Napier and as always, his sarcastic, twisted sense of humour never fails to impress. Batman ...
