Take your tissues with you if you must go to see this film. It ends up squeezing out every emotion you ever had, so you would probably be better off if you didn't go. This romantic drama is all about a love affair that happens in New York. Chef, Will Keane, played by Richard Gere, doesn't believe in forever. He just wants to sow his oats today and off he goes. Things change! He meets an attractive young designer called Charlotte (Winona Ryder). She ... ...(Elaine Strich). hE'S 44 and she's 22 but they don't see a problem. However, just about everybody else does. Dolly is very wary of this arrangement. The pair of them carry on regardless but their happiness is spoilt when Charlotte is diagnosed with serious heart desease (that old chestnut!). She can have an operation but its not likely it will work and its risky so she decides not to have it. There are some very sensual close-ups of the lovers and ...

Advantages: On a rainy day, you'll be sitting in a dry place in the theater Disadvantages: Even Gere and Ryder fans can't possibly recommend this dreadful, shmaltzy flick
When MGM did announce that there weren't going to be any advance screenings of "Autumn In New York", rumors started spreading. Director Joan Chen's ("Xiu Xiu") second movie must be a dud. MGM's reasoning was that there are plot twists that needed protecting. I have to say that MGM has a point. I don't want to know the whole story before I go and see a movie, either. Hence, I won't tell you about that sacred plot twist.
Is "Autumn In New York" as ... ...likes Richard Gere and Winona Ryder, it sure is tough to say anything less than favourable about this movie. However, I have to say that how Allison Burnett got away with what looks like a first draft of a script is everybody's guess. There's absolutely no dramatic tension, the characters are stock characters with next to zero development, and the minor characters seem to be added to fluff the whole thing up so that this brittle skeleton of a story ...

Advantages: cinematography Disadvantages: story, lack of chemistry between leads
I saw this 'tearjerker' on a flight coming back from New Zealand in February, and frankly I'd not given it a second thought since I saw an advert in the paper for it and thought 'my god, they've released it in the cinema?'. Frankly it's a straight to video, or straight to the TV to be honest.
However, with heavyweights like Richard Gere and Winona Ryder playing the leads, what else can you expect. Even Elaine Strich thrown in for good measure who ... ...the title) it starts with Ryder celebrating a twenty-something birthday and Gere then appears on the screen. He'd previously dated her late mother, and of course Granny (Strich) is less than happy when Gere starts pursuing Ryder. His reputation as a womanising self-centred restauranteur doesn't exactly make him family material, particularly when Ryder has a serious heart condition which means she'll be lucky to see out her twenties.
Of course there ...

Advantages: Romantic, interesting, you watch that film without having a breath Disadvantages: Sad end
Summary of the film (some information used from the back of the DVD):
Will Keane is the master of no-commitment seduction, until he meets Charlotte Fielding. Charlotte is half Will's age and twice his match; a free spirit experiencing the excitement of adult life for the first time. For Will, this was to be another quick and easy romance: but nothing about Will and Charlotte's encounters are quick and easy. Instead they are rife with intergenerational ... ...and connection.
My point of view for the film:
It’s a lovely romance taking part in luxurious and fascinating New York. Main parts of this film are Richard Geer and Guinona Rider. The story starts when a young girl (Guinona Rider) is meeting in her birthday party in a very posh restaurant the owner of the restaurant (Richard Geer), a man known around New York as one of the most successful rich men that many women would like to be their girlfriend. ...
