Advantages: incredible array of extras - well thought out, good picture and sound quality Disadvantages: perhaps the film is the weak link
...my Christmas present DVDs – Austin Powers II – “The Spy who Shagged Me”. This being a DVD review, rather than an out and out film review, I do not intend to dwell overly on the plot of this film. So I will give you a very rough outline in a single paragraph and no more, before concentrating on the extras included on the DVD, as from my point of view, it is the extras on the DVD that convince you of whether you purchase the DVD or not, as well as ... ...Plot in one paragraph:
Austin Powers, frozen in 1967 and kept in a cryogenic state is unfrozen in the 1990s where he continues his swinging 60s way of life (Oh the care-free pre-AIDS era of swinging!). Ultimately the film once again revolves around Austin’s battle with Dr. Evil (who is also played by Mike Myers, who plays Austin himself!). This time, with the aid of a baddie of similar stature to Monty Python’s Mr. Creosote, a character known simply ...

Advantages: Supremely funny throughout. Myers is great as three of the top characters. Good sound track. Probably improves upon the original which is noval for a sequel. Disadvantages: maybe just a tad too similiar to the original
...it was not actually until Austin Powers was first shown on channel 4 that I first saw it. However it was well worth the wait as it is one very, very funny film. So funny in fact that it encouraged me to go out and buy the sequel soon after. This is a rarity for me, I only own about 10 films on video, but I am glad that I did folk out the cash as the film equals if not improves upon the original.
The Spy Who... is, of course, a comedy and just like ... ...the 2 main characters - Austin Powers and his arch enemy Dr Evil. He also plays an addition character in this film in the form of Fat bas***d.
Powers himself is a ‘spy' working for the ministry of defence. ...as with James Bond, the Austin Powers creators were faced with the challenge of how to beat the first film. While Bond followed Dr No with From Russia With Love, Austin Powers followed International Man of Mystery with The Spy Who Shagged Me. Could Austin beat the beast that is sequel hell or would everyone's favourite shag-a-holic end up being a total square?

With a lagging libido and no attractiveness to women, Powers would be helpless and the world would be forced to pay a hefty ransom less they face the awesome lethality of The Alan Parsons Project (aka a giant "laser"). With 1969 Austin frozen in cryo-genic suspension, Dr Evil's agents are easily able to steal the mythical mojo and reduce 1999 Austin to a shadow of his former self. What's an agent to do? ...

Luckily, Austin has also been built a time travelling device allowing him to go back to 1969 to get his mojo back and save the world.

‘The Spy That Shagged Me’ also sees the return of Scott (Seth Green), Dr. Evil’s bratty son, who spends most of the film sneering at his Father’s daft plans to take over the world and who, I might mention, is very cute. ;) The other characters are original, but very silly. Scott is ...

...second outing for 1960’s super-spy Austin Powers. His character is born out of the Bond era but Myers uses it as a parody. It is completely over the top and politically incorrect throughout. ...God knows what else. Austin Powers, again also played by Myers, definitely takes second fiddle here, while the third Myers character, Fat Bastard, is a sad mistake, light relief in this collection of light reliefs, but bringing the whole thing down very much to worse than toilet humour (see the toilet scene in the London Underground as FB ditches the homing device.

He teeters on the brink of falling apart for most of this film, but there is enough of merit here to rescue the project.
It ain’t an Oscar winner, but it’s a pretty fun way of spending a couple of hours. ...

Austin Powers was a modest hit on release that went on to become a huge hit on video. A sequel was put into production and released in the summer of 1999 to huge box office success. ...The film begins with Austin and Vanessa, (Liz Hurley) on honeymoon. Austin discovers that his wife is a Fembot. Basically he has to knock his wife's head off, he quickly recovers from this 'little upset'. Austin Powers, (in case you don't know) is a secret agent and obsessed with sex. There's a great soundtrack which goes with the film perfectly (notably Madonna's 'Beautiful Stranger'). Dr Evil, (also played by Myers)is Austin’s enemy. He has a bigger role in this film. Advantages: Funny In Parts Disadvantages: A Lot Of Reworked Gags
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is simply more of the same enjoyable silliness that made the original movie such a surprise hit. And for a sequel to retain even half of the original's quality is quite an achievement.
Mike Myers returns as the bad toothed international man of mystery, and we join the film, with Austin and his lovely wife, Vanessa (Elizabeth Hurley), on their honeymoon. But, horrors, she is not what she appeared to be, and Austin ... ...the inspired foolishness of Myers. Austin Powers thrives on the foundation that it really has no redeeming social value whatsoever. It is just pure, wacky comedy.
Myers' Dr. Evil has more screen time here than in the first movie, and that is a good thing. Just as with the original, some of the funniest moments in the film are when Dr. Evil argues with his son, Scott (Seth Green). And their battles are even better in this sequel because Dr. Evil ...

Austin Powers (The Spy who Shagged Me) is the second of the Austin Powers films and carries on the antics of the first film. When the film was due for release there was some doubt whether the title of the film would be allowed. By far the funniest part of the film is right at the beginning of the film, Scott Evil is on the Jerry Springer show and Dr Evil appears as a surprise (you can ...

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is the follow up to 1997’s International Man of Mystery. Those who say IMOM first will feel right at home, recognising the characters. ...start with the actual film. Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me, is in itself a brilliant film starring one of the kings of comedy, Mike Myers. If you loved the first one then this is truely unmissable, I watched it a few nights ago for the 100th time and while it's fresh in my mind I have to praise it!
