Of course there's a valid reason why Chan's character stole this Buddha, as often is the case in these type of movies he stars in, it turns out that the Buddha figurine had originally been stolen from his hometown in China and if it isn't returned to its rightful home, then it will face a bleak future. hence his reason to join Fogg, so he can return it when they reach China. ...

...science that will take them around the world in 80 days, hence the title is born. The film moves beautifully from country to country and manges to keep a 19th century feel throughout. Each new encounter involves some wonderfully comic martial arts from Passepartout and just a little hint of romance between Fogg and his new french aquaintance, Monique La Roche, played by Cécile De France. ...likable. His muscular body still hold its own even after all these years. The visit to Passpartout's village was very funny and the constant cry for 'Drink', by his mother set me off several times. The plot starts at a very fast pace with the story establishing itself within minutes. However, after a while, the story starts to drag. I was somewhat alarmed at one point to realise we were only up to day 41 with another 39 days of the journey to go. It felt incredibly long, even with some parts of the journey conveniently skipped - ...
...in reality the film lasted about 2 hours. The main plot also involves a missing religious artifact. The action scenes are typical Jackie Chan. He choreographed the clever and amusing stunts and as usual, he isn't afraid to get hurt! They travel all over the country bumping into a rnge of Stars that put in cameo appearances such as Arnie (Terminator), Ben and Owen Wilson (Anchorman).
